Yeddyurappa inaugurates second conference of ‘Garadis’ of Tulunadu

Udupi: A day-long second conference of “Garadis” (places of worship) of Tulunadu organised by Thingale Prathistana was held at the Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Auditorium Udupi here on January 24.

The programme began with an invocation according to Tulu culture,  Welcome committee president of the conference of “garadis”  Gurme Suresh Shetty,  welcomed the gathering. B S Yeddyurappa former chief minister and also State BJP Chief inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

In his inaugural speech B S Yeddyurappa said that Tulunadu has a very rich culture and it is a heritage of the culture. The present generation has bowed to western culture, neglecting the richness and importance of our own culture. “During my tenure, our government has sactioned Rs 2 Crore to build the Koti – Chennayya Theme Park in Karkala. There is a need to preserve our culture for the future generations and at the same time also stop Superstitious beliefs”, he added.

Sri Laxmivara Tirtha Swamiji of Shiroor Math graced the occasion. Shobha Karandlaje MP Udupi-Chikkamagaluru also spoke on the occasion. Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde delivered the introductory remarks.

The representatives of 240 “Garadis” in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district participated in the conference. The representatives of the garadis include trustees, priests, “Darshana patris” and “kolu katuvavaru”,  also participated in the conference.

Educationist Dr M Mohan Alva presided over the function. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Krishna Y Shetty, Vakwadi Praveen Shetty, K M Shetty, Suhas Hegde, Neere Krishna Shetty, and others were present.

Dr Chinnappa Gowda, Dr Amrita Someshwar, Dr. Erya Laxinarayan Alva, Dr U P Upadhya, Harikrishna Bantwal, Katapadi Ashok Suvarna, Dr Y N Shetty and others presented papers on various aspects of the Garadis during the seminars at the conference.

Five eminent persons, Umesh Pambada, Babu Parava, Narayan Pana, Leela Shetty and Korakga Pana will be felicitated during the valedictory of the conference.
