Yet Another Case of Cadaver Organ Harvesting at AJ Hospital
Mangaluru: Vijayakanth, 20-year-old masonry worker from Mullur Village, Nidtha Post, Somvarpet, Kodagu Dist. H/o. RTA on 14/4/2016 around 6.00pm at Siddapura, Kodagu.
Vijayakanth sustained head injuries and was taken to Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital and was later shifted to A J Hospital. Vijayakanth was admitted to A J Hospital on Friday the 16th April 2016 around 9.00pm. He was declared brain dead on 19h April.
Soon after learning the brain death, the team at A J Hospital swung into action and approached Vijayakanth’s brother Ramesh and other family members for organ donation. Organ retrieval process was started at 3.00 in the morning. Harvested organs have been distributed as per ZCCK directive. Vijayakanth’s liver was taken to Bengaluru on 20th April 2016 morning to Apollo Hospital. His one kidney was taken to KMC, Manipal, and one kidney is being transplanted at A J Hospital-Mangaluru
Vijayakanth is survived by father Pakiraswamy, mother Mani, older brother Ramesh and younger sister. Parents are labourers and brother Ramesh is a mason and sister has completed her 9th standard.
