Yoga Essential to Maintain Good Health – Dinakar Babu
Udupi: “Yoga is essential for maintaining good health and a sound mind,” said Dinakar Babu, president of Udupi Zilla Panchayat. He was speaking after inaugurating the World Yoga Day programme organised by the district administration, the Zilla Panchayat and the District Ayush Department jointly at the Indoor Stadium, Ajjarkad here on Tuesday, June 21.
Yoga day is now celebrated internationally and people from more than 170 nations are practicing it. India has been a model to other countries with its rich treasures like yoga. Yoga should reach not only urban areas but should also be practiced in rural areas. The Ayush department should take the lead to create awareness about yoga for the rural population, he added.
Priyanka Mary Francis, CEO of Udupi Zilla Panchayat said that yoga was India’s gift to the world to overcome stress and develop a healthy body and mind.
Additional DC Anuradha, Udupi Red Cross Chairman Dr Umesh Prabu, state Red Cross Chairman Basruru Rajeev Shetty, Principal of Dr G Shanker First Grade College Ajjarkadu Prof Jagadish, deputy director of Youth and Sports department Roshan Kumar Shetty were also present.
In a separate programme organised by the district BJP at the Kidiyoor Hotel Auditorium, yoga teacher Suresh Bhakta explained the benefits of yoga. District BJP chief Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, former BJP chief Uday Kumar Shetty, former Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, president of Udupi TP Nalini Pradeep, Shyamala Kundar, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present.
