Yoga has nothing to do with religion: Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday dismissed a myth that yoga was a religious activity, saying religion had nothing to do with it.

Vijayan made the remark while inaugurating the state-level International Yoga Day celebrations here

“The people of Kerala are affected by lifestyle diseases and practicing yoga is the best way to prevent it. But there is a myth that’s going around that yoga is a religious activity. Yoga has nothing to do with religion,” said Vijayan.

Governor P. Sathasivam, who led a yoga session at the Raj Bhavan here, said: “Yoga brings peace to our mind, health and body. It signifies the unity of thought and action and shows a holistic path to health and well-being.”

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ram Madhav also led a session here and said that yoga would be good for some “immature people” in Parliament.
