Quoting Ezra Taft Benson-“If you really want to receive joy and happiness, then serve others with all your heart. Lift their burden and your burden will be lighter”- An Exuberant 140th College Day of St Aloysius PU College was celebrated with zeal and glamour. Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the World”- that’s right. And for that matter whoever got education from St Aloysius Institutions have reached greater heights and have also become great assets to the Nation and also the world. The purpose of having education at SAC is that every student who passes the portals of this College learns to attain the fullness of life not merely by amassing information, but also by transforming into persons with concern and commitment to the marginalized of our society.

The glamorous, extravagant and glittering celebration began with a prayer and welcome dance, followed by the Annual Report delivered by Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ- principal of SAPUC. Quoting Helen Keller “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence” Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ said, ” It is the deep desire of our Alma Mater to present to our society and to the world, men and women from our institution with minds bright with knowledge and creativity and hearts burning with genuine love and concern for others. Our college has given prime importance to value education for
all our students, including spiritual formation through retreats. SAPUC seek to be the place where search for knowledge complements with a sense of responsibility to the life of the community, where a sense of community sustains men and women in their pursuit of education, fostering a conviction that life is only lived well when it is lived generously in the service of others”.

The programme began with a Prayer and Welcome Dance, followed by Welcome Address – Mrs Reena J. Monteiro, the convener of the event. Annual Report was read by Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ-the Principal of the College. Thanking all those who were responsible for the growth and success of SAPUC, Fr Sequeira said that with God’s grace, the loving care of College patron St Aloysius Gonzaga, the constant support and encouragement from parents and staff, college management will strive to impart quality education to the students without compromising on values and principles before they go out into the society.

Vice chancellor of NITTE University Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary was the chief guest for the annual day celebration. The chief guest reminisced his childhood days in Aloysius PU Campus and attributed his success to his Alma Mater. Recalling his college days at St Aloysius PU College, Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary said, “What I am today is only because of the teachers of this college who taught me the right values, morals and gave me the best education, when I did my college in 1971. Coming from a remote area to this reputed institution, I had no option than to switch from Kannada medium to English medium, where at the initial stage it was hard, but with determination and hard work I managed to reach top and able to become what I am today”

“You youngsters should always be determined towards reaching their goals. Work hard, convert your knowledge to wisdom and wisdom to skill that makes you excel in your career. May you grow to be well-balanced persons in all realms of your personality (Physically, Spiritually, Psychologically and Emotionally). May you become critical thinkers and concerned citizens, who will contribute to the world of knowledge and while working in such pursuit, let not our egoistic self come in the way of genuine love and service to humanity” added Dr Bhandary.

During the occasion, the meritorious students and sports achievers were honoured with mementoes and certificates. Fr Dionysius Vas SJ-the Rector of St Aloysius Institutions in his Presidential address appreciated the Principal, Staff and Students of St Aloysius P U College and spoke on the importance of selfless giving and quoted St Aloysius Gonzaga, the patron of the College for his selfless service towards humanity and motivated students to be critical thinkers and concerned citizens.

Fr Vinod Paul SJ, the Vice Principals Mrs Charlotte D’Souza and Mr Muralikrishna GM, PTA Vice President Mrs Ishara Ahmed, the Convenor of the College Day programme Mrs Reena J Monteiro, the President of the Student Council Rabiyath Aslam, Secretary Mr Azaan Ahmed and Joint Secretary Ms Simona Fernandes were on the dais.

While concluding in my perspective- “No matter what corner of the world you are, you’ll always be proud to say ” I am an Aloysian”. This institution is the most preferred institution, and one who receives education here will be a great asset to the nation and also the world. We need to respect our mentors and teachers who led us to the right path and gave us good education. The truth is, times have changed. Long gone are the days when a teacher’s presence alone demanded respect — from students as well as their parents. Today, in a society where good morals are on the decline and self-centeredness is on the incline, teachers can’t afford to educate students the way our teachers did back in those days. Teachers have to get respect the hard way, and they have to earn it. So my humble request to the students-kindly respect your teachers and elders- you’ll feel good”

The vision of this institution is to empower youth through excellence in education to shape a better future for humankind. It is the deep desire of this Alma Mater to present to the world and to our nation, men and women with minds bright with knowledge and creativity and hearts burning with genuine love and concern for others. Always be proud that you are an Aloysian. Long Live St Aloysius PUC!
