  • From Shalini Pais Naik on How Can they RIP in Such a Mess? Bejai Church Cemetery in Pathetic Condition

I used to visit my parents grave every weekend- but due to the wild grass grown all around the cemetery, I am a bit reluctant to step inside the cemetery, fearing about snakes and other reptiles. YES, this cemetery needs to have a nice landscaping and maintenance at the earliest.

Murder of Gauri Lankesh is absolutely shocking and we should do everything possible to bring those criminals to justice. Having said that we can’t ignore the double standards of our govt, secular media and politicians. Why did state ban any protests by BJP recently in Mangalore? Is life of BJP worker less important than non-BJP member? This is how secular brigade has lost all respect and credibility.

This culture of banning and censorship is spinning out of control. Very soon we will have a complete Police state where people will be arrested for everything. This is the result of minority appeasement for decades. This has completely destroyed secular nature of our society.

    • From Alphonso Dsouza on Derogatory Comments on Jesus Christ, Accused Akshar Boliyamajal Arrested

Mr. Pai – The arrested also belongs to minority (rather super minority). Christians are only 2% of total population of India. What you can appease them. They have given enough to people like you that is why your relatives and children were studying in Christian Schools and Colleges to date. Like Parsies, Christians also worked in building small hospitals and clinics; those who have worked with these institutions know the feeling. I know a large group of Doctors working for Holy Spirit and Holy Family in Bombay; I asked a simple question to one of the Cardiologist “why do you have to work for charitable christian hospitals when you can earn a lot of money in Hospitals like Ambanis” the answer was swift : “We work with those brothers and sisters who care for life and not money; we try to save lives”. I was one of the Heart Patients treated by two well known Hindu Majority Cardiologists. This is only to educate you that it’s not minority or majority. India comes first, if India survives, all can live in it – be it majority or minority.

      • From Original R.Pai on Derogatory Comments on Jesus Christ, Accused Akshar Boliyamajal Arrested

Dear Alphonso D’Souza Frankly speaking, I am getting tired of the same old talking points of ‘christians built hospitals and schools’. Are they giving education for free? Oh well, it’s a topic for another day. I don’t think I did a good job of explaining my views in my earlier post. My bigger issue is with the ‘censorship’ and ‘banning’ culture that makes everything illegal. In a free, democratic society, we should be able to mock and criticize all religions. Why are we aggressively implementing these blasphemy laws in India? Where will this stop? For example, atheists believe that all gods are false. Does it mean that we are going to arrest atheists for disrespecting hindu/muslim/christian gods? We need to get mature as a society. If a hindu mocks Jesus christ, then Christians should mock Krishna/Raama. If a muslim paints Hindu gods in a funny way, then Hindus should go ahead and do the same for Prophet. See, this way, every community learns to grow thick skin, mutual respect and move on with their life. The banning and censorship will turn India into another regressive hell with no innovation or creativity.

Also for the fact, many of the the people who are buried there, once upon a time could have contributed to the Church FUNDS in a big Way?? Thanks Mangalorean.com for a excellent report.

  • From Meera Nazareth on Renovating Our Churches? Quite the Reverse!

I am shocked to read this article and totally agree with Michael Lobo. The flooring is definitely not needed. Was that wall necessary? It looks ugly and not practical at all. Looks like the church has surplus funds and do not know what to do with it. It hurts the sentiments of those who have their loved ones buried there. My parents and grandparents have all been buried inside the church. Come November I amdue to visit my home town to pay my due respects to them. Don’t you think they should take the consent from the families who are buried therein? Can’t they find something better to do? What a shame? Meera Nazareth, Bejai now Canada

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on How Can they RIP in Such a Mess? Bejai Church Cemetery in Pathetic Condition

Thank you very much, Mr. Alfie D’Souza for your article describing the present condition of the Bijey cemetery which was always known to be a place of “organization” in every step of the way. Their daily liturgical services were well conducted, the choir was good, the church hall was excellent and most importantly the Parish Priests were always attentive to the needs of the people of the parish. We are privileged to have the best view of the cemetery of Bijey Church from our seven balconies of our home, and we were almost making up our mind to select Bijey cemetery as our place for final rest instead of Valencia cemetery, but now we are concerned. The deterioration of the cemetery, as you rightly said, must be due to some particular reason, and it might be a good idea for you to approach the Parish Priest or his Assistant and seek their opinion. It is always nice to confide to our priests and nuns our simple grievances in a nice way and see how we can also help them in some of their day to day burdens. It’s tough to run a huge Parish such as Bijey which is growing so fast and the demands of the public are one too many to cope with. But the Church and all the surrounding facilities must be maintained at all times, and the help of the Parishoners must be sought whenever needed. Most of the Catholic churches, not only in India, but all over the world are in a prime location, and the net worth of each property must be equivalent to a gold mine. The Church therefore must continue to seek the help of the people as and when they need the help. Let our Churches, the cemeteries and also the Church Halls be maintained well so that the people can enjoy all that has been built for the people and to the people of the congregation who continue to give their at all times, when solicited. Thank you for sharing your kind observations.

Demolishing n rebuilding the churches has become a fashion in recent years, which hurts the sentiments of the then donors n the original old parishioners. The new parishioners don’t know the value of our ansisters’ sweat. The reason is every one has money nowadays n they want to show off their financial strength to the world. More important is the people who suggest n fight for the new construction are highly benefited in the name of God!!!

I agree with Dr Michael Lobo. A grant from the State Government is to be used for re-doing flooring of the church building? How about dividing the funds and investing them in good investments so as to pay for poor children’s school fees, poor parishioners’ healthcare, to pay deposits/payments to old age homes for elders who have been abandoned, and such REAL issues? I think each Parish Council member needs to be lobbied to stop this idiotic project. We need a list of all parish council members. A social media blitz on this issue can also be organized. The deadline to register protests with the PP and his council is 20th September, so time is of essence.

I too agree.. I had been to Australia and I noticed that the churches are so simple.. No special flooring nor do they have big TV’s installed.. It is a mere place of worship and not show off.. It is only in Mangalore churches they constantly keep doing renovation.. We have to do something about it.. We have to restore our old Graves which are burried in our churches. If our priest have more money let them give it to some family or help a child’s in his/her education but NO they will not do that.. They will ask common people for help and charity.

It is unfortunate that due to so many unavoidable circumstances caused by Hurricane Harvey, we were unable to take part in the “Monthi Fest” that was lavishly undertaken by the HKCA group in Houston. Heard so much about this gathering for many weeks but the unexpected Hurricane took away all our enthusiasm to travel from Dallas and join our dear friends and their families who took so much of efforts in organizing the unique occasion. HKCA, from what we have observed, has a tremendous team work and organization skills. Stalwarts such as Vivian Madtha and Allen D’Souza with whom we have communicated so much thru telephones and email connections but have never had a chance to meet together. Hopefully HKCA will continue their gatherings on many future occasions and we shall definitely make an effort to be part of their group. HKCA has tremendous potentials to grow and prosper. They have our wholehearted support and best wishes in all their future gatherings that will enrich our small but vibrant community in Houston, and will also solidify our Konkany mother tongue. Thank you, Vivian and Allen, for all your personal efforts. May God bless one and all of you and your families.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Inauguration of Sahyadri College Student Council 2017-18

A Student Council has a great role to play in any Educational Institution. Student Council can be a very valuable mouth-piece in order to share all the student opinions and suggestions for the progress of the entire Institution. In today’s world, a student should be given a choice to speak and vent his or her ideas for the betterment of the Educational system and many other new thoughts that the students might have which he or she individually may not find suitable to express. A student Council is the best entity to present any or all new suggestions to the School authorities and resolve the needs and wants as they become fit. We are truly impressed with the vision of Sahyadri College, and we wish them best of luck in all their future plans and thoughts relating to the Institution.

Did he do any damage to the statue? Who decides what is vulgar and what is not? How can police arrest him? This is ridiculous. It pains me to see how quickly India is turning into a religiously hypersensitive society. If our speech, thoughts and actions are censored this way, our country will turn into another pathetic, regressive wasteland. It’s important to highlight the root cause behind this phenomenon of hyper religiosity. The ‘vote bank’ politics and minority appeasement are the main reasons for this tragedy. We have tried to ban any criticism of minority religions in India. For years and years, cowards in media and other responsible positions have failed to uphold the principles of freethinking and individual rights. This has resulted in majority Hindus demanding the same treatment for their gods and goddesses. Again, mark my word – this is not going to end well. Will media and ‘secular’ groups learn a lesson? I doubt.

Kerala Samajam, wherever they are and whatever they do, they always display their image of patriotism and their spirit of enthusiasm in the sense of a “Big Picture” concept. They know what they want, and they know what they are doing. They unite together and they make things happen in a big way. We know the Kerala Samajam more than fifty years ago while we were in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia where the Kerala Samajam managed to gather together with most of the Malayalam speaking community, and they performed anything and everything so well. They pool their resources of talents and economies in order to make many things possible and visible. Best of luck to the Kerala Samajam in Mangalore where most of the Keralites have made their “home away from home” with best of their contribution of talents, education and many other resources. They have brought added charm for the secular values of Mangalore.

Having lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, for nearly five years more than 30 years ago, we were pleased to read the celebrations of “Monthi Fest” rituals at St. Thomas Church in commemoration of the Feast of Nativity. The traditional Nativity hymns followed by the blessings of the new harvest and also the cultural dances and music followed by even the traditional Mangalorean desert “Vorne” was all an interesting reading indeed. Congratulations to all those Mangaloreans in Calgary that made this event possible in the presence of some of our Indian priests. The diversity of Mangaloreans scattered all over the world gathered together for an occasion such as “Monthi Fest” is indeed a fascinating feeling to realize how much we value our past traditions that we bring back to our place of worship and share those traditions with many others that watch us and admire us. Calgary and Edmonton are vibrant Cities of Alberta where many of our Indians are well established with the Energy related careers. We visit these Cities at least once a year to attend the Oil Conventions. Both these cities are friendly cities where the Canadians go out of their way to help us and support us in order to enable us to make our “home away from home” a comfortable place to reside and establish ourselves with our families. Wishing all our Calgarian Mangaloreans a belated “Happy Monthi Fest”.

The Security Department (Law & Order) of Karnataka in all towns and cities must be always alert and vigilant towards suspected people and individuals from Western, Northern, and Southern Indian States, who arrive or migrate to Karnataka to carry out acts of fraud, robbery, murder, and sabotage. Action after a crime is useless as the Indian Judiciary takes forever to punish or eliminate any criminal. That is why India has so many Dons, History-sheeters, and famous criminals still in existence! Statistics on criminal activities and crimes committed should be thoroughly analysed to make Karnataka a peaceful, secure, and crime free State. Any person with a criminal record in his or her own state or any other state must not be allowed to enter Karnataka State.

  • From ALPHONSO DSOUZA on Is this 'World Class Service'? 7 Ticket Counters, Only 2 Open at M'luru Central Railway Station

Mangaluru is one of the cleanest citiies, growing cities. When there is something run by Central Government, like Railways, the city loses the charm. I wanted to enjoy the country side by travelling on KONKAN Railway. I did about 4 trips on Railways from MUMBAI TO MANGALURU and back. The starting station in Kurla is a disgust with dirt from the trains piled up all around the tracks; i was a proud Mangalorean and expected a clean Station IN Mangalore. Surely it is better than Mumbai and Goa; but it is not of INTL Standard at all. The MATSYAGANDHA stops for an hour before reaching MANGALURU; look at the surroundings filled with litter, urination, waste food…. you can check this any time. This indicates what to expect in Mangalure station. Confirmation of tickets, change of dates, refunds … you can never find enough people on the counter. If you talk in Tulu they answer in Malayalam, If you speak in HINDI they reply in KANNADA. Its all buying of time – gimmick. BECUASE they do not want to work. In this IT efficient century – its a shame to see our Railway personnel work so slow; what for these computers are installed. This is why i say confidently -where there is a Government department – be it Railways, HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS, Colleges – they are a junk yard. LOOK at any of the toilet facilities in these centres – you will only get Aids. Sorry to say — the Central Government should take note of this for the sake of Country’s growth.

Thank you dear Violet and family as well as Alfie and family for all your dedication towards the Web Site thru which you keep us informed of so many great events taking place so far away in Mangalore. Wishing you all a very happy Nativity Feast. This Year Texas is slowly recovering from the massive Hurricane Harvey that took away nearly two hundred thousand homes and belongings and making tens of thousands of people homeless. The State is also recollecting similar Hurricane that came to Texas in the year of 1900 where we understand more than twenty thousand lives were lost. Now that we are further threatened three more tragic Hurricanes in Florida and elsewhere and the entire Nation is praying and hoping that these 3 Hurricanes will pass thru without any loss of lives or property. Monthi Festh is a great event to recollect the past humble days. Our parents were kind enough to lay a table full of vegetables and Nativity delicacies that were simple yet gratefully remembered. Today even the variety of flowers are plenty everywhere with flock of children rejoicing with best of clothes. Let the people enjoy the Feasts and have the best of their fun. Let people dedicate the Day with family re-unions and friends gathered with rituals, variety of vegetables and most importantly the blessed crop that will help us to rejoice the new crop of rice all over. Nativity is an opportunity for simple fun filled with lots of family togetherness and happiness. Wishing you all a Very Happy Nativity Feast to one and all of you.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Herbert & Frieda D'Souza being Good Samaritans during 'Monthi Fest'

Nice gesture that is praiseworthy on the part of Herbert and Freida D’Souza during the feast of Nativity by donating the fresh rice crop for performing the Nativity rituals. There are so many ways a good Samaritan can offer his or services for the Community who in turn will benefit the public. God has so many ways to influence people to dedicate their life towards so many causes that help the community to survive. When so many good things happen in our daily life, we often wonder why these good fortunes surround us without any notice. It has happened to us so many times, and we have often consoled ourselves that these must be the gifts from God for all that we try and give unto others in a small way in our daily pursuit of life. We are confronted with so many natural calamities such as Hurricanes during this season. People in millions live in anxiety and fear, and when the Hurricanes hit so badly our houses and destroy our possessions, we cling towards God and ask for His help. When the help comes to us spontaneously people learn a good lesson of their life and offer similar help to many others during their time of need. These gestures become a routine affair in our daily pursuit of life, and we move forward with a life of satisfaction. Well done, Herbert and Frieda, and wishing you both and your families a very Happy Feast of Nativity.

  • From A. S. Mathew on Karnataka CM orders SIT probe into journalist Lankesh's killing

If the culprits are not caught, that will be a national shame. Already the world media is looking at the current Government of India with alarm due to the minority persecution-beef ban (taking off the eating right of the people) anti-conversion laws etc; now the attack upon the freedom of the press has opened the eyes of the world about the highly dangerous autocratic-theocratic march of the nation under the world roaming PM Modi rule. He will not be getting any red carpet treatment at the capitals of the world as he got earlier due to the totally misguided ruling of the nation. PM Modi loves to fly to the western world, had been to the U.S. five times. The U.S. State Department in their annual report for the year 2017, rating of India was sub-standard due to the religious persecution-minority persecution-beef ban-anti conversion law etc. Now, another topic is added ” the oppression of the free press”. India, the so called largest secular democracy of the will be isolated from the rest of the world in different avenues.

“What would the organizers gain by having a one-day protest/chalo demanding the ban of couple of Organizations” – Author. Well, this sums up the sad state of our media these days. Where was this ‘logic’ and urge to avoid any religion based conflicts during recent controversy over ‘bavuta gudda’ road renaming? The ‘couple of organizations’ referred here are the same ones linked to sending people to ISIS. Even Kerala govt and police dept are taking this seriously. When will our media stop engaging in this false moral equivalency and start reporting real threats posed by certain ‘organizations’? It’s always easy to lecture hindu groups on importance of peace, harmony and traffic jams. But it takes honesty and courage to report on ISIS and Pakistan links to Bhatkal and Kasaragodu. As long as media plays this stupid game, the right wing elements in Hindu community will continue to grow. As I’ve said many times before, this is not going to end well. Very unfortunate and sad day for a democracy.

Expecting everyone on facebook/ Twitter to be mature or politically correct is impractical. Clearly there are going to be some sick individuals who will celebrate someone’s death and misery. It’s an unfortunate reality. On other hand, I remember when Kashmiri muslims and students in some universities called for india’s death and defeat. It was rightfully supported by the media as freedom of expression. Why double standards now? I disagreed with both sentiments but support their right to express their opinion no matter how immature/hurtful they are.

Why is there no permission to protest against murder of an innocent person? Is it because he wasn’t a ‘celebrity’ and not known to ‘English-speaking’ crowd? The culture of ban is spinning out of control. Banning books, banning movies, banning speech, banning people from visiting a place or holding a protest – Where is this going to end? If police is worried about violence, they should have a direct talks with organizers of this rally and hold them responsible for any violence/damage. Why ban?

  • From ALPHONSO DSOUZA on Handover Apartments to Owners after Obtaining Completion Certificate - Mayor Kavitha

This message is for our respected Mayor – Smt Sanil. My wife and I are the owners of a 3 bedroom apartment in Essel Star – Bikernakatta. We paid the full amount by cheque and cash from our NON RESIDENT ACCOUNT. I have the proof. At the time of payment, the builder assured me that I will have a parking slot in the building because it is a 3 bedroom apartment. Trusted him and registered our apartment. However, he did not give the historical documents pertaining to the predecessor of the plot nor did he provide us with the actual construction plan. We chased him for Completion Certificate and for the parking. From 2009 till to date we have exhausted all our energy running after this building who now says the Society is responsible. What we ultimately saw were four shops in front of the building where we were promised our parking. The MLA of our area has visited this building. We had written emails to his office asking him to help us with Drainage (STILL NOT CONNECTED), arrange for Completion Certificate. We are paying our tax without fail every MARCH. With three bedroom apartment we neither have a completion certificate nor do we have a parking slot. We bought this apartment to house our 86 year old mother when our ancestral house was cut into half by the Highway Authority to widen the road in Bikernakatte. After 8 years we are still hoping against hope to have a parking and to have a completion certificate. Surely on our next trip we would like to visit your office. We have seen some extraordinary moves from you and your team. If you read this note, please depute your staff to this building ESSEL STAR at bikernakatte; you will see some unapproved apartment/s on the roof side. God bless

Mayor Madam kindly note that builder pay to get the completion certificate although it’s not completed. A special squad from builders association along with CREDAI and MUDA should inspect buildings constructed and see if it is as per norms. Again builders make illegal penthouse and duplex Apartments and register for low value. Hope this is an eye-opener to you. Buildings have no access for fire services to enter. Why give licences without inspection of property? Commercial buildings constructed near the main road have no proper parking and you yourself can see that the tax payers don’t have a proper footpath because of these unwanted concrete roads. Smart City I don’t think so…

I write this in pain as a person who initially supported Mr.Lobo – I thought he was a honest man. But he has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments. Over the years, he has shown his true colors. His complete failure to stay above religion-based politics and reluctance to participate in good social programs (example: Swachcha mangaluru) have totally exposed his darker side. Here is a situation where Police were raiding a murder suspect’s house and Mr.Lobo is worried about a religious book and how it was handled? Seriously? What kind of elected rep is this guy? Does he want Sharia laws of blasphemy in India? Mark my words- this is not going to end well. The out-of-control minority appeasement will only result in more right-wing elements in Hindu society. Religious bigots from both minority and hindu community are a big threat to true secular society. It’s extremely disappointing to see both politics and media filled with cowards who are not willing to speak the truth.

I would recommend a smaller size swimming pool with 8ft deep at one end, 3-3.5 ft deep at the other end and 4.5 ft deep in the middle. I have used a Olympic size swimming pool earlier and it’s not that useful except for just swimming from one end to the other. The smaller size 8ft deep swimming pool which I’m using right now is more fun and good for diving and swimming to the shallow end. Right now, after swimming for almost 3 years in a small size swimming pool, I can dive and swim under water to the full length of the pool & make a u turn, flip over without stopping and float and come back to the deep end.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on We need Swimming Pool, Let's find a solution - MLA Lobo during EMUHS protest meet

It is very pleasing and smoothening to read the article about the development in a place called “Emmekere” that we have never seen. It is interesting to see the overwhelming enthusiasm of the native people and their desire to group together and develop various sports related activities including the creation of a small swimming pool. Having been fully familiarized with the creation of a swimming pool, this is indeed a fine investment, but we strongly recommend that initially try and construct a small size swimming pool, if desired, and learn and earn all the required knowledge and technology essential not only for the construction of a swimming pool but also maintenance and upkeep of a swimming pool. There may appear plenty of monsoon water during the season, and there may be plenty of underground water reservoir in a place called “Emmekere”, but the preservation and treatment of water is of paramount importance so that there could be many other preferred uses of precious water availability. Besides, for a tropical climate of Mangalore, a swimming pool can only be used for few weeks of the year, whereas the rest of the time the reservoir of water in the swimming pool will remain cold and will be difficult to or swim in cool waters unless the water is heated and it is further expensive. The maintenance of pool water and purification of water is an expensive proposition, and the utilization of stagnant water will obviously turn green soon, and will be not hygienic for use. Water treatment with proper technology requires even power and everything to maintain the water will remain expensive and uneconomical to Mangalore. Money can be used for better use. Please therefore look for a small size swimming pool, if that is desired feasible. Instead utilize the available space and money for various indoor as well as outdoor sports facilities including covered Basket Ball courts, outdoor Tennis Courts, and if desired even a small mini size baseball field or a softball place that could be used for most of the time of the year. Utilization of precious monsoon waters have so many useful devices. If possible, create a nice water tank reservoir so that you can utilize the additional water for a nice garden or park facilities where people of all ages, and all classes, can come and relax with their families and friends and have a nice outdoor fun for most of the year than merely taking a glimpse of a stagnant swimming pool where the precious water need be maintained at all times. According to our humble experience, therefore, a large size of swimming pool on an international scale should be the last one on the list of priorities. That is only our personal opinion which we would like to share with the people of “Emmekere”. Thank you very much.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on CESU Celebrates Teachers Day, Honours Retired Teachers

Our retired Teachers need every possible attention and respect. Retired teachers while they are living will witness the glory and success of many of their past students and will be proud to inherit the mere thought that those successful people were their students of the past. Experts have proven that every child spends equal amount of time, or some times more time, with their teachers in schools than those students with their own parents. Each and every teacher therefore serves as a virtual guardian and/or mentor to each and every student in one form or another. We have always remained grateful to all our teachers, and have whispered many prayers for those teachers most of whom are no more. We wish they were alive so that we could have publicly honored them. By recognizing and honoring past teachers, they feel truly honored. Those retired teachers can also contribute with their old ideas that the new teachers can listen and implement some times whenever possible. Honoring past teachers thru any kind of annual ‘get together’ is a fine idea that will enlighten the new society and will obviously strengthen the image of the retired teachers by remembering them and their teaching values on as many public occasions. The life of a retired teacher was much tougher in the past with limited facilities and remunerations. Times have changed for the new teachers, while the retired teachers should not feel that they were less compensated in the past.

“Festival of sacrifice…” – Report Nonsense. If it is truly about sacrifice, muslims would be smashing their expensive phones, tv sets or giving away money and gold to poor. Instead, they slaughter sheep, goat, cows and camels to please their ‘naalige chapala’. This is animal cruelty and should be banned. Unfortunately, the cowards in media and other organizations will lecture society on jalli kattu and kambala. However, they will shamelessly hide under the desk when it comes to this mass slaughter of poor animals. Truly disgusting.

Qatar’s non oil economic side is getting weaker every day. Inflation of consumer goods is getting worse. The united front of Saudi Arabia-Bahrain and UAE as neighboring nations, Qatar leaders must have some wisdom to realize that this confrontation will hurt Qatar further downwards even with the backing of Iran and some other Muslim nations. Saudi Arabia-Bahrain and UAE along with Egypt took this decisive action to enforce Qatar to stop the funding of terrorism which will destabilize those countries, that is a very valid and logical claim; thus Qatar has to change her course of action to be a good neighbor with the GCC countries.

It is not a religion, it is a cult. To be classified as a religion there is only one requirement “Belief in the Supernatural only”. Hence, if you believe in a supernatural only which is GOD and not a man then per the dictionary/encyclopedia meaning it is called a religion. However, when it is the other way round and you follow a person, and not a supernatural being it is called a cult. There are many very large cults in the world and one of them is Buddhism.

Imposition of any language upon the nation, whether that language is spoken by the majority or not, that is fully an autocratic action. Who can give some sense to the autocratic rulers of the nation? There are many nations in the world with multiple languages; none of them are driven by this autocratic spirit of imposition of one language upon others. The autocrats wanted to impose their mother tongue upon others through replacing other’s mother tongue. Is there any communication problem in India now?

Health related topics are very sensitive indeed. The World resources are still lagging behind the global needs for health and welfare of human beings. Hopefully, your continuous message will reach the conscience of the world, and sooner or later the United Nations will be able to bring about the deserving help on health related needs to the world at large. Though there are cases where employers have treated their domestics well and very well, there are many instances when people were denied their basic rights and justice. Those kind of ruthless people should be dealt with a heavy hand by the Indian government, and there should be no compromise if they think they can hire Indian labour and then abuse them.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Indian Social Forum Kuwait holds Health Camp

Health Camps with free Medical check ups in Kuwait is a great contribution that will help the people of Kuwait to appreciate the contribution that the Medical community of India can extend to so many, including the local natives. Some times the people can consider the free check ups as an additional means of consulting with new people and generate new opinion about their health. Any additional guidance derived about our health with no additional cost is always to our advantage. In America, the Indian communities have a group called “Doctors without Borders” who provide each week end hundreds of free medical check ups and opinions while many cannot avail of such information from the Public Hospitals without any costs. The Insurance costs are high, and also opinion gathering device is expensive and time consuming. The “Doctors without borders” from India therefore are providing best of service to so many needy people over the week ends, and wherever possible provide even some essential medicines. Thank you, Indian Doctors for all your help and support.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Indian Social Forum celebrates I-day in Jubail

Thank you so much, the Karnataka Club at Jubail for sharing with us your joy in celebrating the Indian Independence Day in Jubail in commemorating India’s 71st Birthday. Ever since India obtained the freedom from the British in 1947, we should all appreciate the fact our population in India has risen from 300 million to 1300 million. This vast congregation of masses of people, including you and me have given the very best to the Nation, and that is exactly why and how India has advanced so well with our Economy, our Education, our most importantly our Secular values that are being admired and appreciated by people all over the world. We have been blessed, and we should always remain grateful and patriotic towards the country that has given us so much, in spite of all our individual choices. When we entered Saudi Arabia 58 years ago, we still remember vividly and gratefully, that the Government of India gave us the Indian passport that enabled us to come to Arabia and get involved with our career enhancement and we prospered as dedicated Indians, regardless of our religion and our language as well as the culture of India we came from. Since then we visited India and the rest of the world with the Indian passports, and we flourished successfully as Indians wherever we went and whatever we did. Coming to Saudi Arabia is not a right but a privilege that each of us are gifted by our Government who provides us a Passport that is renewed each and every time. The spirit of patriotism therefore is very essential for us to cherish, and regardless of all our individual and group grievances, we all have to give back to our country much more than we presently do. Ultimately, we all have to return home and have to be the successful Indian citizens by being successful part of the Indian mainstream. Our passports are being renewed so professionally each and every time we have been able to invest all our money in India in a ten fold fashion. We all have to proudly inherit all the pride and spirit of patriotism because we are all Indians, and we have to voice our opinions and grievances with all the elected authorities peacefully and systematically, and support India with whatever help and guidance possible by being patriotic citizens. That is what “Insaahn” is all about. This is life that is destined to all of us. Mr. Thumbe, Mr. Jokatte and Mr. Uchil, we are the government that select our leaders, and we have to standby with them because we have chosen to be the Indians who have embraced all the values of our precious democracy and our secular freedom by being Indians. Just look at all our neighbors in the West as well as in the East, and compare ourselves where we are today as far as our overall progress and prosperity. Look at our past history of 71 years and see how many Non-Hindu Presidents that we have selected and have prospered by marching together hand in hand. Let us therefore remain positive as Indians and give the very best to our beloved Nation regardless of who we are and where we are. That is the purpose of celebrating the Independence Day and remain satisfied within our own mind and heart and remain grateful to God for all that He has bestowed upon us. More than 50 Cities of America the India’s Independence Day was celebrated in the presence of so many distinguished Americans and Canadians and they witnessed our progress and our prosperity by being Indians first and Indians last, and all the rest was part of our destiny. “Qudha Afez, and Assalam Aliqaum and also Jai Hind. Let Peace be upon all of us under the umbrella of being children of “ONE GOD”.

Congratulations to our new SP, Mr. Sanjeev Patil for having been appointed to Udupi District. Well, the Phone-in Program is a great way for interaction between the police authorities and general public – and yes complaints will be pouring in – as though the previous SP was inefficient in carrying out his duties – BUT the truth of the matter is BEAUROCRACY that does not allow performance and good governance, in India in general! Politicians give big talks BUT walk the talk! The Main problem in India is – one cannot take the law into their own hands and neither the law that is in authority acts spontaneously! There are Politicians and other influential persons who are Godfathers to be considered first. Otherwise, one will be TRANSFERRED! The Police only takes care of Law & Order, the Judiciary judges and penalizes or punishes as per the judgement concluded! In which case, most of the hard core criminals or mischief mongers are let loose on bail by their Godfathers or due to lack of proof! Therefore they are branded as History Sheeters! Former Udupi SP Annamallaya was such a young and dynamic, enthusiastic gentleman, was proactive and always on top of everything, and was loved by everyone – BUT sadly those who work sincerely in the interest of the public are always Transferred! Politicians play a big role in who STAYS and who GOES! The Judiciary, on the other hand, takes decades to decide judgement on cases and criminals, and in the end, some people are certified History Sheeters and commit crimes after crimes – the media says it all! Hardly anyone is eliminated. Well, the people in authority eg. the police, responsible for law and order, must not only be occupied with providing security to MP’s and MLA’s and for the Minister In-charge of Udupi, but enforce physical police presence at public places such as the 3 Bus Stands in Udupi, the 2 Cinemas in Udupi, and around the 3 Colleges MIT, MGM, and PPC colleges in Udupi, the Public Park at Ajjarkad, the Adi Udupi Public Market, – to be proactive and make their presence felt by those involved in anti-social activities and those who influence such activities! The Police duty should not only be from 10 am to 5 pm but 24 hours. When one needs a Policeman to check on things – it is nearly impossible to find one! Hawkers on pavements opposite the Udupi City Bus Stand and in all the by-lanes of Udupi Town and illegal eateries in Adi Udupi must all be removed, These outsider people from North Karnataka have made the whole of Udupi a Bazaar! Those businesses who pay high rents and costs for utilities suffer a loss of business because of them. Where is the Police or the Authority to check on all this? The Udupi Municipality must install garbage bins at public places for the general public to throw packings and illegal cart eateries to throw their leftovers at night instead of dumping them on the roadside and in the Storm-water drains! Not one garbage bin is provided by the Udupi Municipality – every bin that is existing is some corporate donation like Syndicate Bank, Sai Radha Builders, etc. Why does the Municipality need donated bins – they have sufficient income from Taxes!

  • From S.Rodrigues on Blossom Lobo was Good and Hardworking Woman, Allegations by Husband False - Family

The headline is misleading and assumptive. It’s common practice to place all the blame on the husband or the man for every crime that takes place. Everyone turns a blind eye to the mental and emotional feelings of the husband simply because in indian society he’s branded that way for the faults of a few. While this guy here might be a killer and a psychopath, having an article biased in opinion in favour of a dead woman doesn’t do good for anyone let alone the little kid. It’s apparent that they were not having a proper marriage with her in Mangalore and him in Bangalore and the kid being the object of affection of both parents. This type of nonsense in Catholic marriages is as common these days as articles which are biased in nature. There’s no journalistic credibility as is being seen worldover but people should try to break from that mould and keep it neutral until facts are full proven in any scenario.

‘Traffickers’? That’s all? No other description of these ‘traffickers’, uh? I guess their names are ganesha bhatta and ramesha bhatta, right? Also, was it a legal trafficking or illegal? Report doesn’t say anything. It’s one thing to treat animals in this inhumane way. But the lack of courage and honesty on the part of media is even more depressing. I guess the media is fully bullied into silence by one particular community. Otherwise, how do you explain a total silence by media on non-stop bad behavior and anti-national activities by one community? Even when people from Bhatkala and Kasaragodu area were caught for supporting pakistan/ISIS, our media was shamelessly hiding under desk. When will this change? Do we need a yogi adityanath in Karnataka?

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Went In for Rs 59 Pizza Deal, Walked Out with Rs 280 Tab?

Thank you, dear Alfie, for your interesting article on the misconception of the commercial advertisements that can often misguide the public. It is true that in today’s marketing world, so many slogans and headlines can misguide the public and can end up paying more than we anticipated earlier. You have been living in Chicago, and if we are not mistaken you live in India as NRI. You are fully justified in your comparisons. One thing to be noted by all of us while being in India either for a vacation or for a longer duration, we wish to have the best of value for our Dollar exchange in Indian Rupees, and yet still enjoy an American Domino Pizza at the lowest Indian Rupee conversion. Tourists and non-resident Indians visiting India have a great contribution to make. They have to patronize the Indian products and services by being reasonable in their expectations for the best of Dollar conversions in India. Non-resident Indians and Tourists are the best sources that can help the Indian economy by paying a higher premium for all the best of advantages they gain by spending their Dollars in the prevailing Indian currency conversion. We cannot get any pizza in America for Rs.280 with even a single topping. We cannot get out of any restaurant without paying at least a Dollar per each person as a tip for the waiter or the waitress. The only way we can enhance the standard of life in India is by giving a reasonable tip for every good service rendered. The disparity of the Per capita income between India and America is so vast, unless and until we start paying more to the Indian labor force their standard of life will never be changed. When we visit India from America we must realize that we are spending our American earned Dollars in India, and if we want the American quality of Dominos Pizza, or MacDonald Berger or Kentucky Friend Chicken, we have to be kind and considerate in paying a reasonable amount in the converted Indian Rupees in order to enjoy a fairly comparable American quality product in Mangalore, India. Thank you very much, Alfie, for your kind understanding.

  • From A. S. Mathew on Globe Travels-the Pioneers in Tours & Travels to Conduct 'Holy-Land Pilgrimage Tour'

Making a tour to Israel will be a life changing miracle for the Christians and non-Christians. I have a very close relative, who was an agnostic or atheist; he will not believe anything in life without touching and seeing. How, he will believe in an unseen GOD? We had some debate about this issue, but finally I stopped that subject in our talk to avoid friction. He knew how to make money, believed that success and failures of life are in our merit and work. But I was of the viewpoint that GOD’s hand is working beyond our merit and hard work. He and his wife travel to some parts of the world, and in that list, he was caught up in a trip to Israel. I didn’t ask anything about the trip when I met him after the trip; but he began to give an elaborate lecture about the trip. Two places changed his life from agnosticism. The prayer at the wailing wall and the empty tomb of JESUS CHRIST. Also the trees and plants of Israel caught his attention. Now he is attending Church regularly which was the most disliked place of his life earlier. When I made a statement that I am happy that you found GOD through the visit to Israel, he smiled and replied, yes to that.

BJP President Amith Shaw who is a Gujarathi Jain left Mumbai to Gujarat for his studies; there he met PM Modi, and they became solid RSS pracharaka comrades; thus established an unbreakable comradeship. How long these historical facts can be hidden from the electorate of India?

  • From drona on Hindus Gearing Up For The Big Feast- Krishna Janmashtami

Sarvam Sri Krishnarpanam. May Lord Krishna bless every one. I firmly believe that he was reborn as Christ which must be one of his avatars. In the recent past he was Mahatma Gandhi. India is the land of Punya Purushas. Mookam karoti vaachaalam. Pangum langayathe girim.

  • From Original R.Pai on Koraga Girl Sakshi- First in her Community to Crack JEE joining IIIT-Pune

Having seen a small koraga community and their living conditions in my home town, I must say, this is truly a proud moment for Koragas and more importantly India’s rich secular constitution. A country can prosper when every citizen has equal opportunity.

  • From drona on Shah unhappy with dissidence in State BJP unit

Not a good idea to have Yeddy to lead and Iahu to pull his legs. There are several other younger able leaders who can lead better. Yeddy should take voluntary retirement and Ishu should be ahown the door. Prahlad Joshi would be a better leader. Even Shettar is fine. I don’t think BJP will get the majority. Daane panpaar Praveen uruf Arun uruf Chris?
