His personal decision to donate Rs. 50 lakh worth of diamond studded waistband to the Kollur deity is his personal choice; but I do agree with the middle two paragraphs. While the founder of the Kingfisher Airlines was behind six months in paying the salary to his employees, and one pilot committed suicide, but Mallaya donated two golden doors to a Temple in Karnataka worth Rs. 80 lkh. One of the Reddy brothers, former Ministers under the BJP Government made crores of Rs in the coal deals, and donated some very pricy items to the Tirupathi Temple. Some other rich people have donated in other religions, very expensive gifts to the religious hierarchy to get their favor and blessings. I have heard about a Bishop in Kerala who got an expensive car as a gift from a wealthy Church member while visiting a Gulf country, but the Bishop someway got another far expensive car for his own use. Benz for Bishop is turning like a trend in Kerala; I wish these Bishops would learn from Pope Francis, how to be a real follower of JESUS through self-denial. Thus the religious show is going on! Specifically I am telling to the Christian believers, the question before the judgment seat of JESUS will be ” what you have done to the poor”? JESUS is telling ” whatever you have done to the poor, have all done unto me”.

Mr. A.S. Mathew, When I was abroad, there was strong rumours about a priest who, while building a big church, had siphoned off or squirrelled away money to build a house each in India and Canada to spend his days in retirement. When certain parishoners had the pluck to question him, he would say that before becoming a priest he was in employment and had used his own savings to buy these properties. The explanation offered by him was a mere hog wash, because when one has money and wants to buy property or properities, buys it immediately rather than waiting for 20 to 30 years to buy one. The prices of real estate keeps on escalating and the money in hand is not eough. He would say that the house he had built in India was for boarding and lodging for those priests visiting that place or locality? How sweet and generous of a ungenerous man? However, he would not provide the same facilities to priests visiting from India and some parishoners would sponsor their visits and house thm at their residences, because they knew them or had taught them at one point-in-time. Magnanimous gestures on the part of these parishoners. Some people had seen this priest flying by business class. Others would say that he would have body massages from the soft and tender hands of Filipina masseuses. I envy this man, because I have never had such privileges. However, I had observed that he would pay his total attention to wealthy people and fuss with their children, because he knew that they were milk-rich cows. He would say that he is the Emissary of the Vatican in that country. I wonder where is this priest and how he is faring. However, this is an exception. Most Roman Catholic Priests and Nuns are very good and rendering yeoman services not only to the parishoners, congregations and the community, but have been instrumental in setting up top quality schools, colleges, hospitals, etc.

  • From A. S. Mathew on How do you really enjoy your life? ♪♪

Very interesting and practical advice to be followed to be content and happy in life. The 3rd paragraph of the article ” when you bring a smile on somebody’s face with what you do selflessly, you really feel a lot of joy and happiness comes automatically”, which is the real prescription to be happy in life. Personally speaking, from the very early part of my life, I never had any dream to be rich; and cheerfully washed the wounds of the neighbors before going to school; and their smile of joy made me very happy. Even today, when I feel under pressure, I pray to GOD to bring somebody across my life to help them in a smaller way so that I will be blessed with happiness. Even though I am a very ordinary person in material possessions of life, someway GOD brought many influential and wealthy people to my life, also so many ordinary and poor people. When I asked one of my friends 25 years back, how many children he has, he replied ” Sam, children are very expensive”; then he made a sound and three big cats came to him and he put them in his lap and told me ” Sam, these are my children”. I was caught up in a confusion for a few minutes thinking, is there any mental disorder with him? I met him a few months back, 73 year old tired person, not at all happy and content in his life. He told me to help him to load some food items in plastic containers in his old truck, I did that cheerfully, then he told me to ride with him. He drove half a mile and stopped the truck under a bridge, then he told me to stay inside the truck. When he got outside, hundreds of doves flew towards him and he was covered with doves which was a surprising show for me. He began to distribute bird’s food to hundreds of doves came from all directions. Then he took me around the small city and told me to look at different closed buildings, finally came back and said ” Sam, the only joy of life is to feed the birds, I wish I had none of those buildings”. JESUS said ” Our life is not consisted in the abundance of things we possess” we bring more misery to our lives through hoarding more than what we need day and night and also through swimming in the cesspool of mere pleasures of life; thus destroying the fun and peace of life.

  • From A. S. Mathew on My Presence at a Traditional Syrian Roman Catholic Wedding in God's Own Country!

Very interesting article about Kerala and the details of the Syrian Catholic marriage. I have attended Christian marriages of different denominations like the Catholic-Orthodox-Marthoma-CSI-Evangelical-Pentecostal-Brethren etc; the Episcopal Churches are having the marriage functions so closely identical. Putting the saree by the groom over the head of the bridge groom which is called ” mantrakodi” mantra=magic kodi=clothing. We can read in the Bible at the old Testament time the grooms putting the long clothing upon the bridegrooms; but presumably, the name mantrakodi came from the Hindu religion. Another thing of tying the necklace with a cross, that was involved from the Hindu religion. Thus for the Christians of Kerala, they have taken many Hindu traditions; likewise in Kerala, the Hindus were somewhat influenced by the Christian religion in their diet and social life due to their education in the Christian schools and colleges, also through living side by side with the Christians mainly in the Central part of Kerala. It is my earnest and diligent prayer every day that the State of Kerala, my birthplace may keep the age old religious harmony which is shining very bright among the rest of the States of India. As the author has stated at the first part of the article, I was greatly delighted to see the religious harmony of Kerala surprising the rest of India. When the Christians conduct Christmas, the Hindus and Muslims were active participants, never witnessed religious frictions; but everybody took the religious functions of different religions with reverence. I am bitterly opposed to the north Indian export of religious-mixed politics landing in Kerala to destroy the peace and harmony of Kerala.

I fail to understand why an overwhelming number the people and the press are connecting the dots wrongly. These are 2 separate, unconnected and different issues, and there is absolutely no connection between Fatimat Raheela, who stood first with 93% marks in the subject of Ramayana, and communal strife and social disharmony in the region. If I am locked in a dispute with my neighbour who happens to be from another religion, then do you think that all the people from my community are automatically on my side, and all those people from his community are on his side??? This girl apparently is a Muslim, but if her fellow religionist are embroiled in fight with people of other religions, why and how do you connect the two of them. As I have always said the problem in most cases is the ideology, but at times misconceptions, animosity and old hatred also cause of communal strife. Hence, there are those who practice a violent ideology, and there are those who reject violence and choose to live in peace with themselves and with the rest of humanity.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/scott-ritter/hillary-clinton-foreign-policy-record_b_9221284.html The decision by the Obama administration to intervene in Libya was both indefensible as policy and legally questionable in terms of international law. The United Nations resolution authorizing the imposition of a “no fly zone” did not contain any language that could sustain the notion of expanding the “no fly zone” into a general aerial bombardment of Libya designed to remove Gaddafi from power — the United States, Great Britain and France were compelled to turn to NATO to provide some semblance of diplomatic cover for that operation. Even if one accepts the morally unsupportable notion that the ends justify the means, the rapid decline of Libya from a relatively stable nation state run by a repressive yet containable dictator (Gaddafi) to the chaotic morass of Islamist-infused anarchy that exists today makes even that contention moot — there can be no doubt that Libya and the world was better off with Gaddafi in charge. Senator Bernie Sanders is quite right to question the historic error of judgement on the part of both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama in using — or abusing — a United Nations mandate for the creation of a humanitarian “no fly” zone as cover for large-scale military intervention, void of express authority under international law, to achieve regime change in Libya. ———————————————————– Looks like ‘The Man with the Beeeeeeggggg Stickkkkkaaa’ doesn’t have such a beeeeeeg stickkka (as per our Yumreeki Rampai). It was realised early that his chances of survival were not very bright. It is indeed a miracle that he survived for so many days under snow at such a terrible temperature. One of the writers here comments that he would be “remembered for ever”. I respect the writer for his thoughts. However, it must be noted that Indians do not have a great history of remembering the past dead soldiers. In many countries of the world, the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their nation are remembered on a day dedicated for the purpose: the Remembrance Day. The day, 11th November, is marked not just by the military, but also by ordinary citizens. The 11th November initially marked the date when the WW1 came to an end: 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Many Indian soldiers died in that war, and the sacrifice of the Indian soldiers is remembered by many European countries on the Remembrance Day. But in India, sadly, the Remembrance Day is hardly known outside the military circles (and strangely a few churches, earlier attended by Europeans in India). Ordinary citizens are not at all aware of the Remembrance Day. If the Remembrance Day is marked by the ordinary citizens annually, there is a good chance that the sacrifice of the likes of Lance Naik Hanamanthappa will be remembered for a long time to come.

Prof. Rita Noronha, well said. But in the world the voice of the voiceless is suppressed by power, religion. The false is repeatedly proved truth by the so called leaders where the people blindly (or pretend to be blind) follow and support. People like Prof. Rita Noronha need to come together and unitedly work for justice than working individually.

  • From Nelson Lewis on New Delhi: Siachen Soldier Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Dies, Says Army

I salute Lance Naik Hanmanthappa who was found alive six days after being under 25′ of snow in Siachen at an altitude of 19,600′, besides the dead bodies of nine of his comrades. The country prayed for this man to survive. It is sad to learn that he too died today in a military hospital. In a country obsessed with cricket and Bollywood, do the people know the circumstances under which the military faces the enemies at all fronts, be it land, air or sea? Lance Naik Hanmanthappa was posted on the world’s highest battle-field, where everything is a challenge. They do not get cooked meals, but consume meals-ready-to-eat that come in packs, use snow to make tea, etc. They live in minus zero temperature. Many of them are casualities of elements, rather than enemy action. People like Hanamanthappa, the Colonel from Satara who was killed while fighting the insurgents in Jammu & Kashmir and many others who have died earlier are true heroes and not some tinsel or tinpot heroes. May Lance Hanamanthappa’s soul rest in peace and may God bless and guide his family. It is at least good that the military gives befitting funerals to this fallen heroes. It is high time that a military museum is built and these heroes are honoured there.

The only industrialized country in the world that does not open up immigration – Japan will pay heavily for its anti-immigration policies. It is one of the most racist countries under the Sun! Even people of Japanese origin from Brazil are discriminated against in Japan! The men smoke heavily and drink too much and also come home late at night and women have absolutely no place in the business world other than secretaries who are expected to make coffee or tea every few hours! Many Japanese men do not want their daughters to attend universities! One will not know about these issues unless one lives in Japan for a few months.

    • From Nelson Lewis on Japan worried about 2020 problem, or life after the Olympics

Mr. B. Dinesh, I have not visited Japan, but have heard many things from those who have visited the Land of the Rising Sun and spent few days, weeks or considerable length of time in this land. I have read about Japanese, their patriotism, their industriousness, their fetish for punctuality and attending appointments on time, their discipline, their politicians (unlike their Indian counterparts) being non-corrupt and other interesting things. In World War II, they were the most ferocious soldiers and when defending countless islands they had captured in the Pacific, which were later attacked by American naval ships of all sizes (aircraft-carriers, cruisers, destroyers, frigates, submarines, etc), tonnages and firepower carrying Marines and other troops, they preferred committing harakiri, rather than surrendering. In fact, Japanese cannot tolerate embarrassments, scandals, accusations and this is reflected by their high suicide rates. I do not know if immigration is permitted for everyone or, as I read somewhere that Muslims cannot enter and take up Japanese nationality. Therefore, one does not hear about terrorism in that country. I know that most of the Muslims are good, but it is the radicalized few that bring a bad name to the whole country. From the media reports, we have seen Muslims youngsters in India, some of whom are educated and can be categorized as professionals, do not know what is ISIS, how dangerous it is and wreck their cushy life and careers to join a terrorist organization with whom no law-abiding citizen would have nothing to do with. Concerning Japan, I could send you a scanned copy of a letter that I had got from a World War II personality, who has achieved international stature and is a part of history of that era due to his actions during that war and good deeds after the war. Could I have your email please? My email address is: lesterlpearson@gmail.com.

If a movie is historically inaccurate, it is because of lazy direction. -Atheist Mr.Original Pai Sir,Original Pai mama is now bringing his ‘Taqiyya vada’ exhausted from ‘palyana vada’ defending PM Modi’s film censor board appointment. When Leela Samson and other panel members who held the positions in the censor board it has never embroiled in the controversy or never part of headlines. The elite club of RSS has never missed the opportunity by filling the vacuum to saffronise the censor board which is worth $5 Billion. The Modi government fills the vacancies in the film censor board with persons “proud” of their association with the BJP. This saffron Raj is not only limited to censor board but later extended to Appointing Gajendra Chauhan at Pune Film Institute head is latest instance of BJP overreach. http://www.firstpost.com/bollywood/saffron-raj-at-ftii-appointing-gajendra-chauhan-as-pune-film-institute-head-is-latest-instance-of-bjp-overreach-2296428.html In latest development travails of being a Muslim in India ; Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan became victim of Intolerance. • From shAIKH moHD rizwan on Chikkamagaluru: Four from Dakshina Kannada Arrested for Skirmishes during Datta Jayanti

Chikkamagaluru MLA C T Ravi and Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar, who were watching the events mutely-Reports Dear readers, Since 1999, the Sangh Parivar has conducted the Datta Jayanthi celebrations with impunity, encouraged by a pliant district administration. In that year the District Commissioner set up a managing committee to look into the so-called financial irregularities in the shrine by the Sajjade Nishan. “The committee comprises largely Bajrang Dal activists and Sangh sympathisers,” . The allegation of financial irregularities was only a ruse to take control over the management of the shrine. Irregularities can be looked into separately, he argues. “Will they allow the finances of a Hindu mutt to be scrutinised by the government?”. “The legal position is very clear,” A.K. Subbaiah, a leading lawyer from the Janata Dal (Secular), told Frontline. “In 1975 the Supreme Court held that the shrine came under the Muzrai Act and the rituals, to be performed only by the Mujavar, are specified. The whole campaign of the Sangh Parivar is illegal.” In 1998, the J.H. Patel government came down firmly on a plan by the Bajrang Dal to “liberate” the shrine, forcing the organisation to call off its campaign. However from the next year onwards, the State government accorded the organization permission to conduct the yearly Datta Jayanti celebrations for three days, during which time the shrine is converted into a Hindu temple. The picturesque Bababudangiri hills are situated in Chickmagalur district of Karnataka. The Bababudangiri shrine has been in focus for the past few decades because of the communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims. There are many legends and myths circulating about the shrine. The Hindutva claims that the shrine belongs to the Hindus, for it is the place where the hindu ascetic god “Dattatreya” was “born”. The Muslims claim that , Bababudan ,a Sufi saint meditated in the caves of Budangiri about 1500 years ago. For centuries, Bababudangiri has been the symbol of true secularism and syncreticism. Both Hindus and Muslims have been worshiping Bababudan without any religious conflict. However from the past 2 decades, Hindutva forces have been trying to saffronise this secular space for their own political gains. The Hindutva forces dream of creating a Hindu India and syncretic spaces like Bababudangri , have been an obstacle in the path of “making India hindu”. Hindutva forces create an image of India as a goddess to be saved from the clutches of the Muslims and go back to the glorious Hindu past. The Sangh parivar claim Bababudangiri to be the birthplace of Dattatreya which was usurped by the Muslims. The Sangh Parivar calls for “the fellow Hindu warriors” to save their holy place and restore the “lost”land..This paper tries to put forth the different narratives and myths circulating about Bababudangiri and analyzes how questions of caste have been silenced and gender is foregrounded by the Hindutva in order to saffronise the syncretic shrine of Bababudangiri. The process of saffronisation is done by circulating false stories drawn from the different myths about Bababudan and Dattatreya . The syncretic space of Bababudangiri has been saffronised by the hindutva forces. The saffronisation is mobilized by foregrounding the myth of the molestation of Anusuya and silencing the anti brahmanical stance of both sufism and Natha tradition of Dattatreya. A brahmin heritage is created by evoking the figure of Dattatreya as god than that of an anti-brahmanical wandering ascetic. The Hindus minds are poisoned against their muslim neighbours by creating a demonic, overtly sexual image. The hindu men are “awakened” by emasculating them and also evoking the image of the helpless innocent “goddess” who is being physically assaulted by the muslim other. The men are forced to appropriate the stereotype of the other (i.e the Muslims) in order to protect the hindu nation and hindu mother. The hindutva narrative draws on the different myths of Bababudangiri and Dattatreya but also succeeds in creating another pro hindu myth by manipulating gender and caste. So it is obvious that our local BJP MLA’s to be silent spectator who are once part of the covert campaign. Will Mughal destroy the vedic history which RSS wanted to rejuvenate centuries later? The Bharatiya Danga party just knows one way to win election–by communal polarisation, riots and creating religious divide. It has perfected it in the last three decades. It may Ayodhya in UP,Bhojshala-Kamaal Maula’s mosque in MP or Hubli Idgha maidan for flag hoisting or Bababudangiri history is rewritten. Jai Hind Jai Hind

Don’t you remember – you need a visa JUST to visit India, ya Rampa. And then, we all know pretty well that you are a staunch ದೇಶ ಭಕ್ತ (so what if you fled India sometime during the Bengal famine of 1943… just to indulge in some पेट पूजा?) who is overly concerned about stuff in India. You see, that definitely explains why you NEVER lose a chance to call India a 3rd world country! And despite calling it a 3rd world country, isn’t it THE mother of ALL jokes when you bleat that you’ve given up on some of OUR elected officials? Shocking!! Bollywood geniuses didn’t do research on the very subject they were claiming to make a movie on?? I’m really surprised!!! LOL LOL-Atheist Mr.Original Pai Sir, Original Pai mama who is suffering from K.S.Sudarshan short time memory loss has difficult to recall who is filled in the film censor board. The Modi government fills the vacancies in the film censor board with persons “proud” of their association with the BJP, after the resignation of Leela Samson and other panel members. Parivar faces on censor board http://www.telegraphindia.com/1150120/jsp/nation/story_9285.jsp “I AM proud to be a BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] man, and Narendra Modi is my action hero,” said Pahlaj Nihalani, Hindi film producer. For his unstinting loyalty to the party and the Prime Minister, Nihalani has been rewarded amply: he has been made the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), or censor board. In fact, along with him, a band of BJP supporters have secured coveted positions on the board. This action is vintage BJP. In its previous tenure at the head of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, the party had packed several quasi-government bodies with its own people in what was seen as an effort to further the Sangh Parivar’s saffron agenda. Essentially, the mass media, especially films and television, are largely secular platforms, and technically should function without any government interference. Positioning profiles such as Nihalani in key posts is causing concern within the film industry and among the liberal-minded. The BJP and other Sangh Parivar organisations have never been apologetic about their views on certain issues relating to religion, women and social norms. Their handling of these topics has been narrow-minded, even bordering on the absurd. While film producer Pahlaj Nihalani “Har Har Modi, Ghar Ghar Modi during the national elections last year, the Modi Bhakt in daily troll on social media blaming VP singh government and praising the single man for ‘airlift’ without knowing the reality in Kuwait. Hard reality is these bhaktha don’t even know that BJP has provided outside support to the Sighs government. Are they blaming the failure to themselves or forgot IK Gujral’s helping hand? Jai Hind

“Could it be someone using a fake Muslim name to muddy the waters perhaps?” wonders James(Bond) from Beef Club who ends his post with a cautionary line – “One shouldn’t go too far to connect the dots” !!! I love how he tells everyone not to connect dots after doing exactly the same by speculating a link between some shop owners in Udupi and facebook post!!! LOL Isn’t it amazing how ‘Beef Club’ smears and attacks sanaathana groups even in the absence of any specific data? On the other hand, this group won’t even utter a word when you present them with facts from mangaluru vimaana nildaana or some guy openly threatening to behead one Kamalesha Tiwaari. Oh well, the first casualty in self-hating culture is intellectual honesty. It explains it all !!!! Sad but true!!

  • From Henry James on Udupi: Defamatory post against Pejawar Swamiji, Muslim brethren stage Protest

I find it hard to believe a genuine Muslim would dare to use Facebook as a medium to deliver threat to a high profile seer. Could it be someone using a fake Muslim name to muddy the waters perhaps? Pejavar has a lot of foes in his own neighbourhood and they are not from other religions. He has been trying for ages to make the Krishna Mutt region a business-free district. But as you know, there are almost 100 shops which are attached to the toilet outlet of each of the Mutts which the seers have been finding it hard to vacate…. given how convoluted ownership laws are in our country it’s hardly any surprise why incidents such as these erupt once in a while. One shouldn’t go too far to connect the dots.

What a brilliant idea of presenting Books to the needy children thru the occasion of a Wedding festival. It is a magnanimous gesture to think of others for our wedding. Asking invitees not to bring any “presents” is not a good idea. We went for a rich Parsee wedding not too long ago in Mumbai where hundreds of guests, rich and not so rich gave so many envelopes containing currency notes to the rich hosts. That’s part of the ritual that should not be broken. In the Western World many of the wedding invitations clearly indicate the name of the Department Stores where they place a long list of their “needs and wants” for their wedding where the guests can easily visit personally or go on line and fill up the list indicating the items that are still required by the wedded couple. By so doing, duplication in gifts can be avoided. If we are going to get married once again after 53 years, we shall certainly seek gifts in cash so that the money can be donated to so many orphanages or asylums by buying food and sweets for good occasions.

Deepaka, Following a long-term ‘expose’, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is planning a literal cover-up job. According to an organisation spokesperson, if all goes according to plan the Sangh’s volunteers might soon shed the khaki pleated shorts that were a signature part of their uniform, in favour of full-length trousers. While the official reason being put out for the proposed change is that the new dress code might have greater appeal for the country’s youth – which is being assiduously wooed by the outfit – sceptics could suggest that the baggy shorts, which expose hairy shins and knobbly knees, lend themselves to metaphorical leg-pulling by critics. ———————————————————————————————– ದೀಪಕ, ಈರ್ ಪೊಸ RSS ಕುಂಟು ಪೊಲ್ಲಾಯಾರ? Report, uh? Why is he not crying ‘intolerance’ over this incident? What a genius! – Rampuji Hey genius, what’s your take on this? The pomp and ceremony are all extant but the circumstance is starting to rankle. Over the years, the taint of political patronage has essentially robbed the Padma awards of their stature and significance. This year was no different, with celebrities who backed the government on the intolerance debate having the honour of displaying a Padma award on their mantelpiece. Anupam Kher, the most vocally loyal, gets the biggest—a Padma Bhushan and tweets about it being the “biggest day of my life.” There were others who would feature in the political patronage column, but this year’s awards had another serious shocker. Two of the Padma Shri awardees, Ajay Devgn and Priyanka Chopra, may have had careers that qualify them for official benediction but here’s the catch: they both endorse pan masala brands. A Padma for carcinogens? Sounds rather unpalatable. http://www.outlookindia.com/article/muddy-lotuses/296584 ——————————————————————————————

    • From Nelson Lewis on Bengaluru: Parameshwara denies Tanzanian woman was stripped; 5 arrested

From what I have observed on the television channels, the Chief Minister of Karnataka does not appear to have touch with the people, appears to be an arrogant person having an exaggerated importance of himself and living in an ivory tower. This sort of attitude is okay for political leaders from countries enjoying very high per capita incomes and not a country where the per capita income is just hovering around US $ 1,600, irrespective of India being touted as the fastest or second fastest growing economy. India will never have a high standard of living, just because of the fact that we are a highly populated country with high density of population. The true indicators of the health and well-being of any country is its per capita income and least disparities in wealth It is no use having billionaires at one end of the scale and unfortunate people scavenging for food at the other end of the scale. Politicians have to realise that this is a recipe for disaster and could lead to riots and uprisings, e.g. French, Russian and Iranian revolutions. Hungry stomachs can be very dangerous. I wonder how many Indian politicians are conversant with history and as Field Marshal Manekshaw said, can they differentiate between a guerilla or gorilla and mortar and motor? I wonder. The stripping and beating of a Tanzanian female is very shocking incident that various television channels must have been beamed in many countries, which will certainly create a negative impact of India and Karnataka. Yes, it is a fact that Africans can be a bit wild lot and drink beer in public. In that case, the aggrieved parties should inform the police and ensure that they take action, rather than indulging in “gunda raj. In Singapore, beer and alcohol bottles are openly sold in cold stores, kirana shops, etc. and the laws are well defined and the olice and politicians, unlike India, are not corrupt, but assertive and professional. Therefore, Singapore is a very peaceful country and an advanced economy. The Chief Minister of Karnataka should be ashamed of himself.

Modi is trying hard to win-over international community… – Deepaka Shetty Aloo.. Deepaka, It looks like he didn’t try hard enough! Take a look; http://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/india-nepal-relations-himalayan-blunder/ The Narendra Modi government has had depressingly few achievements so far on the domestic front. Economic reform, so greatly — and perhaps exaggeratedly — anticipated by many of Modi’s supporters on the non-Hindutva right, has scarcely had its tummy tickled. It doesn’t help the PM to have such a rabble of intellectual lightweights in his Cabinet. There’s no one on his political team making the case for deregulation with any vim. And it hasn’t helped that the PM spends so much more of his own time campaigning at elections than on the tasks of fiscal governance for which he was so resoundingly elected. Had the Indian government not had the accidental windfall from depressed global oil prices, the country’s economy would be giving us all some heavy-duty heartburn. But cheap oil has allowed the government to coast, and to shrink from hard decisions. India will pay a price later.

  • From shAIKh moHD rizwan on 'Airlift' trailer sets up a high patriotic meter

Dear readers, Airlift distorts history, creates a false Indian hero http://www.dailyo.in/politics/airlift-kuwait-iraq-war-vp-akshay-kumar-queen-aaliyah-airport/story/1/8792.html Here are the brief facts Kuwait fell on August 3, 1990. Within less than a week, Inder Kumar Gujral, our external affairs minister, was in Baghdad, the first foreign leader to reach there. He was cursed globally for embracing Saddam Hussein for the cameras. But he said to us later he had to do it to protect his people whose safety and evacuation Iraq guaranteed. He came to Kuwait, spoke to stranded Indians, took a few back with him in his IAF Il-76 and then organised the biggest airlift in the history of mankind. Our embassy in Baghdad found a bus contractor to move our people to Amman and Jordan had never closed its borders with Iraq. The first airlift took place on August 13, on the tenth day after the invasion and continued for 59 days until the last Indian wanting to return was back. About 10,000 stayed on in Kuwait, feeling safe with the Iraqis who were friendly to India and never consciously hurt an Indian. This film, therefore, has zero resemblance to reality except that it steals a real event to build a Sunny Deol-style hyper-patriotic yarn. These are days when vigilantism is popular. The state and the system can do nothing, so a super Indian has to rise and fill in, until, the tricolour is unfurled to notes of Vande Mataram and we all have tears in our eyes. Just a footnote: I(Mr.Shekhar Gupta) covered that Gulf War for India Today magazine from beginning until the end, first bombings in Baghdad, Scuds in Israel and finally the liberation of Kuwait. Amman was the base for all outward travel as you could drive to both Baghdad and Jerusalem. We never heard of a character like Katyal. Of course there was Sunny Mathew, popularly known as Toyota Sunny because he had flourishing agencies for the car company, and a cultured gentleman called Mr Vedi who helped the Indian community get its act together and keep the evacuation smooth. In fact, Mr Vedi was brave enough to stay put. My photographer colleague Prashant Panjiar and I were fortunate to find him as we reached Kuwait just after liberation, with debris scattered, skies blackened with oil well fires and hulls of destroyed Iraqi tanks lying all over. He looked after us, fed us, pointed us to an abandoned house we could just break into, like everybody else—fortunately it had a deep freezer filled with food which we gratefully ate from. He told us many stories of the crisis. He and Sunny had been brave, good, rich Indians, but sadly there was no story to even vaguely resemble what we are celebrating these days. And one more important aside. VP Singh had just come to power on the Bofors campaign in the 1989 scam season. One of Rajiv Gandhi’s controversial purchases was the Airbus-320 for Indian Airlines. After one crashed in Bangalore, VP Singh grounded all 320s. But once the airlift became necessary, he had no choice but to let the plane be flown again and it proved to be a real workhorse. Finally, no pilots protested and there was no real danger flying to Amman. Queen Aaliyah airport remained open through the war and most international airlines continued their scheduled flights uninterrupted. It [the BJP] just knows one way to win election–by communal polarisation, riots and creating religious divide. It has perfected it in the last three decades. So official machinery, its IT team, its online army, everybody is out to blow things out of proportions in states that are going to polls–Assam, West Bengal and later, UP. Many of us may have already received daily trolls in our Whatsapp accounts blaming Former PM VP Singh government. But hard reality is only expatriates in Kuwait suffered the most new it. This is another classic example of ‘AIRLIFT’ is being ‘HIJACKED’ to distort history.A truth very few new.But movie makers already made Billions projecting a false hero. Jai Hind

And this policy is made by bus Union along with RTO. If they fail to reach on time they will not allowed to enter Main Bus Stops and sometime whole Trip also, So over speed is not diver fault for his salary he forced to do that. So kindly check with RTO also And as double roads started in our city give some road / traffic tips to our people, Give sign board knowledge this is also important.

Where are the elected officials who are often seen at ‘udghaatana’ events? How come we don’t confront them? Instead, we seem to blame everyone else!! One can list a dozen safety issues within 15 mins of reaching mangaluru!! How come these officials act as if they are blind and not aware of these serious issues? Not sure why the elected officials are still given a pass for failing to confront these issues!! Is it because they belong to certain political party? Very depressing.

Abdul said it correctly. DC Mr Ibrahim calls for safety meetings and instructs many things to follow for safety reasons. But RTO Inspectors do not care at all. I have stopped many times regarding safety violations but my efforts were like pouring water on the Rock. Nothing grows. One RTO Official told me bluntly that” Dying Persons Dies Anyway.” So according to Him now a dying Person is dead. 1) Please look at the line of trucks, sometimes more than 25 Parked on Highway near Kankanady Police Station blocking the view of vehicles driving 100 km or more per hour speed. School Children are walking on Highway. I asked Kankanady Station police to remove them and they remove one or two just to please me. I have requested Ex Police Commisioner Mr Hithendra more than once but still they are there. Given in writing to DC and it was like bucket with hole. I have requested ACP Mr Uday Kumar and His answer is that the area is not Under Him. 2. Look at the Trucks Parked near KPT Juction. Even Luxury Buses belongs to Ganesh Travels are parked on the edge of Highway. Cranes and Borewell drilling trucks are on side of Highway. But Traffic East do not remove them. If they do remove Political connection comes into effect. Buses belongs to who? 3 Look at the Car Repair Garage near Sandesha and Nanthoor Circle on Highway. I have given in writing to DC during Safety meeting. Told to many Traffic Inspectors including Present Commissioners Office. I have told to Corporator Sabitha Misquith and Ex Mayor Marla. Still it was like spitting in the wind. Many times Cars are on half the Lane and repairs are going on. Public only jumps up and down when few lives are Lost. Amen

It is not just GSB but people from all divide were sympathetic to Ms. Anupama Shenoy. If people unite, their power can force them to work and be accountable. Amongst all professions, politics is the worst profession, because in India politicians are corrupt, thick-skinned, lack decency and decorum and feel that they are a superior breed by themselves. This is because people do not unite and hold politicians accountabe for their actions and misdeeds.

Where is our collective conscience, when we pride ourselves in being a secular democratic and free society, reports like these raise a lot more questions. I fail to see why ONLY the GSB community should stand by DySp Anupama Shenoy, what about the rest of us? Is she the DySP for the GSB community ONLY? As a DySP wouldn’t she protect all concerned? Why don’t we see it as a fight between the right and wrong? What has political affiliations got to do with this? The minister should be made to take a lesson in humility, and the electorate should carefully choose their leaders without any bias of caste, creed, community etc. etc. Based on these reports we should ALL stand up for her and fight this moron, who did not come by chance but regrettably by choice to rule over us. If we can’t stand by her and protect her, then how could we expect her and the entire police force to stand by the common man, when they are in dire straights and need the help and support of the police. Special thanks to the Press for high lighting these issues and bringing it to the public. Please continue the good work, you’ll play an important part in exposing these issues which would otherwise been swept under the carpet.

These seasonal gatherings should be encouraged for the schools and colleges to come forward and contribute their share towards helping the City in promoting tourism and various other seasonal attractions. Major Corporations such as MRPL and several other Business Groups should be encouraged to take part in many activities and donate attractive prizes as incentives. Food and beverages, including fruits in season should be distributed for the kids as well as the adults so that more and more participants are attracted. It’s interesting to see how this report doesn’t even mention the political party behind this episode. Imagine it was a BJP govt!! smiles… – RampaNNA Oh well. that may well have been due to an oversight – as in the Mangalooru eeeemaaana Nildhana gold smuggling case. Read on pyare Rampu: Her answer still rings in my ears. “Bhaiyya, saawan ke mahine me ek paav daal laye thhe” (Brother, we last bought 250 grams of dal during the rains). I had asked her when was the last time she cooked dal for her family. This was village Mastapur in Tikamgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, which shares its border with Uttar Pradesh, where the pitiless terrain of the old Bundelkhand region extends. I asked this question to every woman I met during this visit. Usually there was an awkward pause followed by a smile or laughter (“don’t you know the price, babuji?”), but not a single woman claimed that her family consumed dal daily or even regularly. Hundreds of ravenous stray cattle, mostly cows, scourging the field for some straw or tree leaves, announce the arrival of a village. ‘Anna pratha’ (letting off cattle) is an old tradition in Bundelkhand. But villagers tell you that this year the number of cows let loose exceeds anything in the past. As you look at those exhausted, lowing cows, those loud TV debates on cow slaughter and beef consumption begin to sound fake and so removed from the real India. For the cattle, this is slaughter by other means. http://www.outlookindia.com/article/the-footsteps-of-a-famine/296549 ——————————————————————————————————— So, WHO was in power ALL these years? – (Akhanda) Bharathiya Janaaaatha Paaaaarty or Bharatiyaaa Jokers Paaaarty (I hope the additional ‘a’s are in line with Rampaaaa’s NEW & hitherto unpatented, BUT unprecedented usage of the same), all of us know that it is the BEE Jayyy Peeee that is in power since 8th Dec 2003! – Boko Haram? – The Commie Republic of China? – The Triads? And these people want Metros! They want a ban on Beef! No beef.. no Dal.. no food…. people starving….. and our Pradhana & Anthima Sevaka wants FREE Wi-Fi for one & all. ‘Dijjiitaal’ India.. ‘MACK’ in India. Hahahahaha! This guy is acting infantile ever since he jumped on board here and there he goes saying that I’m infantile! Or else, I write about the perils about letting Cows wander the streets of M’lore/elsewhere and VIOLA – this Joker associates it with my alleged “perpetual hatred towards sanaathana dharma”. At this rate, I can’t about Water Buffalo, and Mouse/Shrew/Rat and Bull and Lion and Peacock and Horses and Swan and Great White Elephant and Serpent and Owl…… gosh! The list is ENDLESS! random case of assault to hide the fact that his community has been systematically destroying Christian community in all over the world!! -Atheist Mr.Original Pai Dear readers, RSS in show of strength – March in Shillong on Netaji birth anniversary http://www.telegraphindia.com/1160124/jsp/northeast/story_65544.jsp#.Vquy7FJa_C8 The RSS on Saturday took out its maiden ‘Path Sanchalan’ (procession) here in the capital of Christian-majority to declare its presence Meghalaya. Nearly 300 cadres, dressed in RSS uniform with sticks in hand, joined the march which began at 8am from Upper Mawprem and passed through various routes before ending at Balika Vidyalaya School opposite Lady Keane College. It was organised by RSS Vibhag Karyawa, Shillong. The RSS cadres were mostly youth and elderly persons from Khasi Jaintia tribes who follow the indigenous faith – Niam Khasi, Niam Tre – as well as non-tribals. “We have 293 cadres, spread across 39 villages of Khasi-Jaintia hills who took part in the march, of whom 80 are cadres from non-tribal communities,” said Mangkashang Khongshei, the secretary of RSS Vibhag Karyawa, Shillong. Surprisingly they selected the event coinciding to pay tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 119th birth anniversary.Where is the so called ‘social organisation’ with military style weapons training missing in last 6 decades after India’s independence? Why this organisation doesn’t even have single freedom fighter participated with Mahatma Gandhi freedom struggle and died for the nation? In a recent development Donning khaki shorts and white shirts, RSS activists conducted a Vijay Dashmi procession carrying firearms and swords in R S Pura town on the border. Ruling BJP MLA Gagan Bhagat, who also participated but did not carry any weapon, justified the action, saying the processionists had valid arms licence with them. The J&K Legislative Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta and senior Bharatiya Janata Party legislators Sunday openly participated in right-wing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s ‘route march’ in Jammu. RSS men accused of brandishing weapons during Jammu march http://www.greaterkashmir.com/news/front-page/jk-speaker-bjp-leaders-join-rss-march-in-jammu/199908.html The Indian Arms Act prohibits display of weapons by any person, except authorised arms dealers, but they too can display them within their premises. Section 5B of the Act reads: “No person shall expose or display any permitted bore other than licence granted by the District Magistrate to authorised dealer within their premises.” Is constitution of India is separately defined for ‘Sangh parivar’ who can brandish weapons in full public view? Is it acceptable for PM Modi’s Ministry of Home affairs is Sikh,Muslims,Christians,Jains too take such march past? In the aftermath of ‘Godhra’,Tehelka sting operation has exposed the BJP MLA openly acknowledging the lethal weapons being transported and using it.Is Modi’s India is soft on ‘saffron terror’ unleashed by Hindutva forces? It is warning sign for North East,Jammu and Kashmir,Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in particular from Sangh parivar illegal weapons display.Slowly but surely another wave of bloodbath is being carefully planned. “He should keep a watch on what is happening in his constituency” – Porf.Nayak on an elected representative. Well, it pretty much sums up what we need to know about some of these elected ‘decent’ guys. We had a ‘decent’ guy in New Delhi (mana mohana) and we all know what he did when he was in power. The problem with ‘decent’ guys is that they can easily be bullied into silence by other aggressive, corrupt elements within the party.

As usual, great report by this portal. As the saying goes, one picture is worth a thousand words. The photo showing Lady Goschen hospital wall pretty sums up the ugly reality of mangaluru politics drenched in communal politics. Look at the wall and see how there are posters on ‘saha baalve’ event whose only agenda was to attack, slander and project hindu organizations as terrorist organizations!!!! Remember, these groups preach us on tolerance while littering the town without any hesitation!!! On the other hand, we have a bunch of volunteers going out week after week, cleaning our city streets to make out society a better place to live!!! Unless you are one of those ‘Beef Club’ members, you shouldn’t have any trouble figuring out who really loves our society and who is using our society for political purposes!!!! Needless to say, certain political leaders and religious groups continue to ignore this ‘samaaja seve’ purely driven by their political and religious agenda. Very sad and depressing.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Jai Tulunadu! Coastalwood Actress Sonal Monteiro all set to make Debut in Bollywood Film

Wishing Sonal Monteiro all the best. Bollywood is the world’s largest film industry, leaving Hollywood in the second place. All said and done, this industry is the second highest paymasters to established stars and that is why many foreign actors, viz. Pakistan, England and other countries wish to act in Bollywood to make some quick and big bucks, which they can save for the rainy day. However, Sonal Mnteiro has to realize that working in Tulu films and trying to establish in Bollywood are two different things. It is a highly competitive work and the fittest survive in the rat race. Those stars who are successful, established and having films in the pipeline are fawned over by the Bollywood fratnerity and invited for film meets, social fatherings and awards or otherwise it is a “aya ram and gaya ram” scenario. Jacqueline Fernandez was born and did her schooling in Bahrain, though she is a Sri Lankan national. Her father is a Burgher (equivalent to Anglo-Indians in India) and her mother is a Malaysian. She is doing quite well in Bollywood. Once again, I wish this lady all the best.

  • From Narendra Nayak on Mangaluru: Getting a driving license at the RTO office!

I think it is a two pronged strategy- one is to force you to go to ‘brokers’ to get your work done. The second is that if the licenses are not posted you will go to collect them and then the stamped envelop remains with them. The former is much more profitable, but the latter teaches you a lesson not to go there to do things directly! Either way it is a loss for us citizens. If there is a shortage of personnel how come that those who approach through brokers can get their work done quickly? The same must be applicable to them too. When I was standing in the line to make my payment I could see people with bundles of applications in their hands. Again, now they dare not jump the queue. When I was there once about twenty years back waiting in line one man with a bundle of documents in hand and a bunch of currency coolly went to the head of the line when about twenty of us were standing there. I called out to him and asked me whether he was blind. There was a big altercation and the people in the line told me that he was a broker entitled to special rights. I had a fight with him too. Then I told the cashier that if he touches the papers which he has submitted before he does mine I am going to complain about him. So, he did not until I had finished my payment. I do not what happened to those behind me but only hope they too did the same. That time itself I remember raising my voice at a case worker for not giving my papers in time on the promised date. When he said that he had no time, I picker up some which had been completed on the previous day and asked him if he had time for those, why not for mine? I said I am not going to move from there until he does my work which had been submitted more than a week back. He got nervous and the people who were watching applauded. I told them that they should fight for their rights than clapping for me. Then there was a driver of a govt. ambulance who told me that he was coming there for the eighth time to get the registration of his ambulance transferred from Chikmaglur to to Dakshina kannada and asked me to help him. I told him to get lost and that he was getting the same treatment from the RTO office which he was giving to the patients of his department. I have many such experiences at the govt. offices.

India is a country where there is so much to learn in the daily events that apply our daily life of Economy, Industry, Education and much more. We have to be tolerant towards others ability to decide on the welfare of our State and our country. We should be fully prepared to offer our expertise to others for which they have to compensate for our time, talent as well as our expertise. Mangalore can prove in more than one way our ability to be of service to many others, and by so doing, we learn our way and grasp the future opportunities. All of these situations take place almost every day in all the countries, including highly developed countries. Once the decision is made, our tolerance and our acceptance should impress many others to solicit our expertise. Lets learn from each other by being calm and tolerant.

I had applied for the new license on 27/11/2015. It was a simple conversion from old booklet license to card. I paid for the envelope. Wait for 6 weeks and colleted it personally as it never arrived by post. I enquired and was told that bloke whose responsibility is to send these out is also saddled with to other tasks and so he is doing 3 men’s job so he posts them out as and when he can. There were close to 500 undelivered licenses in the bundle. That is not citizen’s concern as they can employ people. However that RTo office setup is like a dog’s breakfast. Needs to be streamlined.

Kudos to Mangalorean.com for the report. The difference in the reporting, as compared to other net-based news agencies, is the publishing of the RTI application. This helps the reader to ascertain facts for himself rather than of having to depend on an interpretation. Would be nice if Mangalorean. com also publishes the reply, in time to come, and also the outcome. Prof. Nayak’ step-wise report and discreet photography is a helpful teaching tool for all citizens about: how to empower oneself while dealing with citizen unfriendly govt. offices. • From shAIkh Mohd Rizwan on SC stays criminal proceedings against M S Dhoni

They come to a country as beggars! And a kind-hearted country grants them asylum!-Mr.Praveen Sir,First of all I don’t know what is the connection between Cricketer Dhoni and EU refugee crisis. Immigration continues to be one of the most politically polarizing issues in America. The topic of immigration policy has been a staple of recent presidential debates, and has even divided some members of the Church. Let me educate son about the new Danish refugee laws are a blot on humanity. http://gulfnews.com/opinion/editorials/danish-refugee-laws-are-a-blot-on-humanity-1.1661195 ‘Now that you have arrived, hand us all your money and jewellery, if you have any left.’ That’s the message for refugees that Danish lawmakers drove home on Tuesday night, voting overwhelmingly in favour of a slew of measures, personally championed by Prime Minister Lars Rasmussen and intended to deter them from seeking asylum. The steps include a new law to empower Danish police to seize valuables from refugees even as they are “welcomed”. There is also the draconian provision under the law that will delay family reunification for refugees for three years. Simply put, even those granted refugee status in Denmark will not be able to bring their families in till that period — never mind if they have to endure the daily prospect of violence, rape and murder. It’s always pragmatic when a country puts its long-term financial health ahead of any other issue, as Denmark has done. But an increasingly globalised community requires a certain basic camaraderie for people facing a humanitarian crisis. Instead, in heaping humiliation on refugees, Denmark has shown it doesn’t belong to the world’s welcoming community. Once a champion of refugee rights, the Scandinavian country’s goal is now to become “significantly less attractive for asylum seekers,”. Amnesty International has called the three-year waiting period for family reunifications “cruel”, saying it could “have a devastating impact on families”. Home to 5.6 million people, Denmark registered 21,000 asylum applications in 2015, making it one of the top EU destinations per capita for migrants but putting it far behind the 163,000 registered in neighbouring Sweden. Jesus says(Peace upon him): “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was ill and in prison and you did not look after me” (Matthew 25:41-43). When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. (Leviticus 19:33-34) Only Almighty know our destiny. What we have today maybe not be available for tomorrow. The plight of refugees in Europe could be ours own may be not because of wars whatever Almighty has written in our faith. Kindly restrain mocking the plight of others.Follow the Jesus(Peace upon him)commandments and do service to the humanity. Jai Hind

‘Aakrama-sakrama’ is an euphemism for govt endorsing and promoting bad behavior of poor people. This doesn’t stop it, instead it enables and promotes even more bad behavior by poor people!! What govt needs to do is provide a fair system where we all have equal access to education, justice and opportunities. Giving him another acre of land may not solve the problem if he doesn’t know how to manage his finances. Give him god guidance and a better paying job if possible. This will teach him the importance of responsibility in life.

Sir, generally you, the neo-rich people may be rich because of going to some foreign country, are totally dehumanised. But, I am sure that if Modi were in the place of DC Ibrahim, you would have worshipped him to impress the Indians that Modi is a God!

It’s very interesting to see how most of the comments are directed towards this arrogant minister, not the party in power. By the way, I agree that we shouldn’t unnecessarily attack a political party or an organization every time one of its members is seen doing something wrong. However, I don’t see the same level of restraint when it comes BJP or RSS. All of a sudden, it turns into a ‘sangha parivaara’ and Hindu-bashing!! LOL Is it too much to ask for intellectual honesty? smiles….

Mr. Joe D’Souza, The Police Officer who has been victimized by this uncouth, rustic and probably corrupt politician is not an Inspector, but a Deputy Superintendent of Police, who has a couple of full-fledged Inpectors and others reporting to her. Every profession in India has an educational criteria, why not for politicians? Are they some special or untouchable breed? There should be special institutes affiliated to an University or Universities where all future politicians should graduate before they can take part in elections. They should be grounded in matters like how to speak politely and effective, importance of grooming, dressing, eating, respecting people and beaucrats and being very conscious when enjoying at taxpayers’ cost. It should be drilled into their thick heads that THEY ARE PUBLIC SERVANTS. Most Indian politicians have an exaggerated importance of themselves and act as feudal lords.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Udupi: Media should Close Communication Gap Between People to Facilitate Development; Nagesh Hegde

Media in India in today’s world should be treated in a “big picture” context. India is a large country with a large population of all ages, all religions, all languages and much more. Our Industry has multiplied, and so also our Economy and our Society. India is an advanced nation marches boldly forward with many other nations. Our Educational background and our historical background, specially our admirable democracy is something that the World is amazed. Media in India therefore should be always molded in a positive spirit. The people need to see the bright picture than a gloomy picture. The generations of India are changing fast with growing population. We are glad to witness a large congregation of students attending this Conference. India of today belongs to the “young” and “enterprising”. The Media has a great role to play. We pray to God that the Media of India will always play a positive role that will help the masses of people to grasp always something is good and positive. This is our message for India’s 67th Republic Day. “Dhanyawadh”

Phony people like Nalin and Ivan have been in the politics for a long time in the state so they almost certainly would have known about the Yettinahole project when the previous BJP government was pushing it through behind the scenes. If they were unaware of it that means they were not keeping in touch with the political affairs of the state and are unfit to be in their current job/role. Now both of these are acting innocent and shedding crocodile tears in front of the public because they do not want to lose the popularity. People are too ignorant. They have pledged their allegiance to the party which protects their religious interests. This is the exact opportunity these politicians have used to hoodwink the coastal districts. Common man will continue to lose out if they start looking everything in terms of BJP and Congress. They deserve everything they get.

Many Bollywood stars are. at best, eye candies in case of males and roses in case of females, but I wonder if they have grey matter, intelligence or average levels of general knowledge. It was worth listening to one actor who became a M.P. being very uncofortable and squirmy when he was asked some questions. He was not at all wordly wise. In early 1980s, during a respite in film shooting, he was asking another co-star, what was doing on in Sri Lanka and why are people fighting there. Well, the fact of th matter was that there was L.T.T.E. which was demanding an independent land for the Tamils and, therefore, L.T.T.E. was fighting the Sri Lankan Army and indulging in acts of terrorism. The co-star told this star that L.T.T.E. is demanding of the Sri Lankan Governmen the privilege of they and people watching Hindi films, which is being denied by the government. He fell for this bait.

I wonder what those discussions were all about – the average number of dances in a movie OR silly fights while singing? – Murudeshwara Rampa Heck no! they were in all certainty/probability discussing the following: 1. http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/10/10732126/golden-globes-2016-best-comedy-musical-the-martian-nonsense Excerpts: Sure, we’ve already covered that the Golden Globes are a sham; a combination of desperation and corruption that gets wrapped up into one nonsensical display of self-indulgence — but sometimes things happen that can still surprise you. Like when The Martian wins for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. 2. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Martian-Winning-Golden-Globes-Best-Comedy-Sucks-Real-Comedies-105127.html Excerpts: The Martian was a fantastic movie. It’s the best movie I saw in 2015. If anybody asks, I will happily vote to give The Martian virtually any award it wants. The acting is tremendous; the direction is great; and the cinematography is wonderful. The screenplay was close to perfect. The Martian is many things, but what it’s not is a comedy – and it’s why tonight’s big win at the Golden Globes has an unfortunate downside. 3. http://hollywoodlife.com/2016/01/24/danny-devito-oscars-racist-united-states-discrimination-controversy/ Excerpts: “It’s unfortunate that the entire country is a racist country,” Danny said. “So this is one example of the fact that even though people were giving great performances in movies, they weren’t even thought about. We are living in a country that discriminates and has certain racist tendencies. So sometimes it manifests itself in something like this, and it’s illuminated. But just, generally speaking, we’re a bunch of racists.” —————————————————————————————————– WHAT a Joke! 🙂

Usually I find myself totally agreeing with citizen action taken by this portal, but not this time. If photos are any indication, the person was NOT begging. Instead, he was soliciting money in response to an act he was performing in public. As the report confirms, he was raising funds for ‘swachcha bhaaratha’ campaign. By the way, this act of ‘Gandhi statue’ is something that I have seen many times ever since my childhood. I had seen this Bangaluru, Mysuru and even some places of Dakshina Kannada. This is not something new. We need to stop being overly sensitive towards our cultural, religious and political leaders. If Raama, krishna, ganapathi costumes are acceptable in public, I don’t see any issue with gandhi or nehru. I really worry about this growing trend of ban and censor in our society. Oh well…

Some great points raised by Mr Joe D’Souza. The ‘Verification Certificate’ is just the desire to continue with the infamous License Raj – something that may have existed in India since Vedic times – using different avatars. A public servant’s – whether elected or employed – major occupation has always been to provide some sort of ‘Verification Certificate’. To get this ‘Verification Certificate’, the applicant has to wait in the queue, rain or shine, and beg the public servant to consider his/her case, pay the Government’s fee (a few hundred rupees), pay the public servant’s commission/bribe (several thousands to lakhs, sepending on the case). Such is the tragedy of the License Raj. But the Antony Wate Management seems to be a tough cookie. They seem to go by the contract. Strangely, for a service provider to a Municipal Corporation, they are not afraid of the License Raj managers. The MCC License Raj managers have, for once, failed with a service provider. It seems to be an interesting case. The aam aadmi seems to be happy with the Antony Wate Management, but the Corporators are not. Is the aam aadmi seeing through the games of the Corporators?

I would like to ask Opinion of Mangaloreans about the suggestion, Quote: “Bills issued by Waste Management, Anthony Company should be accepted only if the Bill includes the Verification Certificate by the Ward Corporator”. As most of Mangaloreans know it very well that many of the Elected Persons including Corporators work to grant verification on the basis of percentage of the bill. Some Corporators are very good in finding dirt on other Persons back side, while their back stinks with dirt. A Corporator supplies drinking Water through Tankers to Customers. The Wells are close to Dirty Drain which is contaminated with Sewer, flowing close by these wells. No one talks about the quality of the drinking water. This water may be contaminated with E-Coli Bacteria. One more Corporator is not worried about the Stinking Sewer filled drain close to Omega Hospital, Indiana Hospital and close to Karnataka Bank Head Office. Another Corporator is least worried about dirty, sewer contaminated drain flowing near Nympha Old People Ashram behind Rosario Church through Pandeswer.

Mr. Henry James, You are perfectly right in describing the Bollywood stars as over-rated. Bollywood mostly churns out garbage films. lacking artistic values or morals and these stars are played astronomical amounts for acting in garbage films and doing pathetic roles. They live a surreal lives and they have, to put it bluntly, not connected with the masses. They bullshit by saying that they love and adore their fans, but do they have any connect with them? There are two top actors in Bollywood who are two-tongued and two-faced. By their slick talks on the eletronic media, they fool the people.

Those videos with all the information about the culprits should be uploaded to the internet for everyone to see. Naming, shaming and the resultant public humiliation is the only way to contain this problem. It does not matter which government is in power and what schemes they bring out. The people are the same. Unless you humiliate them this problem won’t go away.

  • From shaiKh MohD rizwan on Mangaluru: Suspected ISIS member 25-year-old Engineering Student Arrested

I’m surprised to see the name being published in the report. I thought that the new standards allow the names to be published only when they belong to sanaathana dharma?-Atheist Mr.Original Sir, Hindu ‘Dharma Sena’ Trains Thousands Of Fighters To Fight ISIS In India http://www.huffingtonpost.in/2016/01/19/hindu-dharma-sena-isis_n_9024732.html In an apparent response to the Islamic State, a Hindu outfit is training thousands of people — some of them children as young as eight years old — to fight with guns, swords, and rocket launchers. In two years, the Hindu Swabhiman has prepared 15,000 such fighters as part of their “dharma sena”. A Times of India investigation found that there are 50 such training camps across western Uttar Pradesh, who are preparing to fight the ISIS, which they believe will take over the area by 2020. One leader described their motto for training people as “catch them young” — where after the first six months of training, children begin learning how to use guns. Part 1 of The Wild West of Uttar Pradesh: Rise of the Radicalised Hindu Fringe Part 2 of The Wild West Of Uttar Pradesh: Rise of the Hindu Fringe Is PM Modi’s Home ministry is aware of parallel military by Hindutva group? Is RSS political wing BJP trust the capabilities of Indian Armed forces? Is this a new avatar of ‘Saffron terror’ to unleash Godhra or Muzzafarnagar 2 across India? Why does Firearms act is not applicable to social organisation RSS and its sister organisations? This is one the dangerous trend facing the nation which may disintegrate like ‘Yugoslavia’ on ethnic lines. The nation can’t develope ‘Political tears’ of PM Modi will hold value in the eyes of the nation only when he takes strict actions against all those involved in the heinous crimes whether against Dalits or Minorities. • From shaiKh MohD rizwan on Bengaluru: Techie Arrested for Derogatory and Threatening Post against CM in Social Media

I guess the report is slightly misleading. Nobody should be arrested for derogatory remarks as it is protected under free speech. However, threat is not acceptable. -Atheist Mr.Original Sir,Only in PM Modi’s India ‘viral video’ uploader gets Z security under freedom of expression.Sangeet Som was one of the politicians who uploaded a fake video clip that provoked mobs in Muzaffarnagar district. The video, which the police have decried as a fake, showed a mob lynching two boys. And although, it has since been revealed video was clearly shot in Afghanistan or Pakistan, a large section of the population believed the incidents of the video had actually taken place in a village in Muzaffarnagar, which subsequently led to the deadly riots that killed 48 people. Every riot accused will be given security while the riot survivors will remain homeless. This is the acche din the BJP promised to people. “How can a person who plays with the feelings of a community, and thereby, creates communal tension, be provided with Z+ security? Mr.Original Som and suresh Rana are part of ‘Good governance’? Jai Hind

  • From shaiKh MohD rizwan on Mangaluru : Ramakrishna Mission holds 36th Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan in Kodialbail Area

Dear readers, I appreciate RamaKrishna mission unique service to the mankind.Cleanliness is one of the main object which present the first image of person or place. Thanks for inviting the people’s representative who are only seen giving public speeches. Sanitation for Ministers and Menials Alike-Mahatma Gandhi Father of nation Mahatma Gandhiji had started doing a scavenger’s job, and conducting scientific experiments in sanitation, from his South African days. His campaign for sanitation had twin social objectives – eradication of untouchability and promotion of the dignity of labour. He also said, our lavatories bring our civilisation into discredit. We like to have an enjoyable bath, but don’t mind dirtying the wells, tanks and rivers, by whose side we perform ablutions. These practices should be considered as a great vice. They are responsible for the disgraceful state of our villages and the sacred bank of sacred rivers and for the diseases that spring due to the lack of sanitation. I learnt 35 years ago that a lavatory must be as clean as a drawing-room. I learnt this in the West. I believe that many rules about cleanliness in lavatories are observed more scrupulously in the West than in the East. There are some defects in their rules in this matter, which can be easily remedied. The cause of many of our diseases is the condition of our lavatories and our bad habit of disposing of excreta anywhere and everywhere. I, therefore, believe in the absolute necessity of a clean place for answering the call of nature and clean articles for use at the time.” Sadly, our local MP is again missing.I would expect him to present in all the cleaning mission to keep the words Mahatma without ‘selfie with jaddu’. I would also request mission to focus on sanitation of public areas in their next mission. Jai Hind

  • From Praveen on Mangaluru: 800 Houses  to be Built for Economically Weaker Section at Shaktinagar - MLA Lobo

So, our Murudeshwara Rampai will finally have someplace to call Home, sweet Home. 🙂 And hey – know what? The distance by road to your fav place in the world (ya ya… Murudeshwara ya Rampa) is ONLY 156 Kms. If you put only 1/2 your remaining mind to it (which is probably not more than a thimbleful in the first place), you can make trips to Murudeshwara DAILY! Oh well, if not daily – at least weekly! Enjoy the beach (entry is FREE)… the waves.. the sand.. the serenity.. the tranquility.. the peace.. the statues, the crowds.. (no free wi-fi – at least not for the time-being. But then, I could have a word with the MLA out there – Mr. Lobo and see what can be done ASAP) etc. And as you do it – you can pull out your beloved Mridangam (or, was it the Mandolin?) and bang/strum away as you sing: I’ve wandered far away from God (Your imaginery one, of course!) 😉 Now I’m coming home; The paths of sin too long I’ve trod, Lord, I’m coming home. Refrain: Coming home, coming home, Nevermore to roam; Open wide Thine arms of love, Lord, I’m coming home. I’ve wasted many precious years, Now I’m coming home; I now repent with bitter tears, Lord, I’m coming home.

  • From shaiKh MohD rizwan on Udupi: First time in the Country - 24 hours free Wi-Fi facility launched in Malpe Beach

Dear readers, Though India is biggest contributor for Information technology the citizens are not smart enough to understand the health dangers of the technology.Since the introduction of Wi-Fi in 1997, researchers have performed dozens of studies to explore the subject. The results are clear and shocking — Wifi can negatively affect overall health and brain health, especially in children. 10 Shocking Facts about the Health Dangers of Wi-Fi http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/10-shocking-facts-health-dangers-wifi/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertszczerba/2015/01/13/study-suggests-wi-fi-exposure-more-dangerous-to-kids-than-previously-thought/#747434685fdc Radiation risk from everyday devices assessed http://www.eea.europa.eu/highlights/radiation-risk-from-everyday-devices-assessed There are no set standard on electromagnetic waves in India unlike European Parliament and European Environment Agency.Apart from prevailing health hazard, none of the manufacturer as per Indian standard will ever mention the radiation level in the manuals.Surprisingly, there are no public litigation has ever filed by citizens of India questioning the Ministry of Information technology. As our markets are flooded with cheap ‘Make in China’ smartphone’ (which can even explode while talking) huge potential in the market is exploited the consumer rights. Every technology has some pro and cons.As an Indian we have always accepted the technology without studying the drawback.Where are all the sparrows gone once common to our household? Is the self question to asked. Nature is God gifted.People in the west shun the clothes to expose to the sun in beeches is very common for health benefit. The ‘Digital India’ has taken to the new level, even the privilege of fresh air, water and sun is numbered. good work by ramakrishna mission and the students, and volunteers. It is not enough if only they do it. the public too has to realise their responsibilities and not litter. Other day a man threw a cigarette packet on the road when my husband was on his morning walk. He asked him not to throw it there. the other man almost shouted at him” what is your problem ? other garbage is already present there.” my husband told him- yes people like you are littering the road. and tax paid by me is being used to clean it!”
