  • From shAikH moHD rizwaan on Ahmedabad: PM Modi's Wife Jashodaben moves State Information Commission with fresh RTI

Dear readers, This is another classic example of blunder promised during election rallies with the slogan of “Sab ka sath, sab ka vikas”. The two times elected CM of Gujarat literally thrown her own wife under the carpet, until Supreme court passed verdict to fill all the columns in the affidavit for candidature. While our sisters, daughters, mothers are not even have enough safety to walk after the sundown, PM Modi’s central leadership given commando cover which restrict the privacy of her movement.Apart from this Baba Ramdev who has provided free election campaign to BJP behind Anna Hazare anti corruption crusade and Sangeet Som who posted fake video with inflammatory comments during Muzaffarnagar riots are ‘Aache Din’ and good governance examples. This security is nothing but subjugating her to from media gaze to hide from truth. Jai hind

  • From Mangal on Mangaluru: Instead of Criticizing Modi, Rahul Should Know his position in Congress - DVS

“Instead of reacting on the bill without understanding it, [Rahul] should discuss such matters in the parliament.” Report quoting Mr Sadananda Gowda. In our beloved country, not many things are discussed in parliament. Parliament is used to bulldoze some people’s wishes. The real battles in India are fought outside the parliament. For example, when the globetrotter and his other half promised lakhs of rupees to each Indian as their just share out of the black money stashed in Swiss banks, those promises were not made in parliament. Those promises were made through the media, to the gullible public. Many political illiterates among the public actually believed in the promises made by the handful of people from the trader community. That unfortunately is the sad state of events in India. The 70% of the have-nots still trust the hollow words from the 10% of the haves, and continue to remain the have-nots. Can it get any worse than this? What India needs right now is to have globetrotter-free government in India. Everything will be sorted out once that has been achieved.

This too is lesson for the responsible parents who take their children lightly. It is no doubt that modern technology is already corrupted the young mind. With modern gadgets easily available this is leaving negative impact . The Information Broadcasting ministry,Censor board are the indirect contributors to the raise of such crimes. The government need urgent attention and need to ban all the x-rated contents and put age restrictions. The Juveniles act need to be rewrote. This is one of the shame women can’t live along the Juveniles go scot free with relaxed sentence. Jai Hind

  • From Max E Rasquinha on Qatar: With 'Tears and Cheers' Toastmasters Clubs Host Farewell Bash for DTM Vijaya Monteiro

Great Job, all members of the Toastmasters Groups in Qatar to come forward and extend your farewell messages and rituals to Mr. Vijaya Monteiro as he is ready to embark upon his new journey. What a beautiful gesture to proclaim the friendship and leadership of Vijay Monteiro and honor him for his meritorious services towards the Toastmasters World in the presence of his family. Mrs. Monteiro will now realize that her husband did not waste his precious time each week or each fortnight. I am glad to see my friend Sonny Verghese was also there to greet and felicitate. The most valuable gift of a farewell to a Toastmaster is that he or she is encouraged to move forward in life amidst cheers and tears, and also able to look into new possibilities of establishing new Toastmasters Clubs wherever he goes so that he can then appreciate all that he earned as a Communicator in his life in Doha, Qatar. This is how I personally felt 36 years ago when I was given a “teary farewell” in Dhahran at the Stanleky Hall of Aramco. Since then I became a Toastmaster in 3 separate Clubs in 3 separate Districts. Let Mr. Vijay Monteiro loudly proclaim his devotion towards the Toastmasters and establish many more clubs wherever he goes, and make the world a better place to live. Whether he is young or not, life is wide open for him to prove his leadership, his dedication, and his communication skills and pave way for many more individuals as well as groups to shine in their pathway of success. The world is wide open with carpets in red, blue and even purple. Qatar is now the richest country in the world, no doubt, but the richness is not because of the oil or gas beneath the soil but because of the gift of people Qatar earned from all parts of the world to make the Sheikhdom so productive and successful. I have 58 years of dedication to the Arab World, out of which I have spent a great deal of time as a humble leader and communicator, and the life was good. The journey of a Toastmaster is not over until it is really over. Let the “Real Over Journey” come as and when it is ready to come, and until then let us continue to leave behind the legacy of “footsteps in the sand” as deep and as firm as we can. These footsteps are from our hard work, honest work and willing work. Good luck to you, Mr. and Mrs. Vijay Monteiro, and your family. May you remain healthy and happy wherever you are and whoever you are. “Sayonara” and “Dhanyawadh”.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Bengaluru: City Railway Station to be Named after Valiant Fighter Sangolli Rayanna

The Indian politiciains do not do any work for the people, who have elected them and keep fooling them by changing the existing names of roads, heritage and monumental buildings, edifices and institiutions to those of personalities that have just local or regional stature (and have no national or international stature at all). I have not heard the name of Sangolli Rayanna and after sometime, I will forget that. You ask any child outside Karnataka, if they have heard the name of this personality and they will say, “NO”. Well, everyone knows Mahatma Gandhi, Lokmanya Tilak, Jawaharlal Nehru, Motilal Nehru and personalities of similar stature, but not this person. During the course of my work day, I meet a lot of people who introduce themselves as Peter, Suresh, Balbir, Dorabji, Abdul, Mohammed and if I have not documented their names with a brief biography, I will forget them and I will not have a trace of them at all. If you wish to honour an Indian personality, build a new road, building, etc. and give it that name. In Bombay, there were many buildings, streets, areas, etc. that had British names and due to netas total dislike of British rulers, they have changed their names. Though, we are a democracy, they decision-makers are the netas and people have no say. I believe many big statues of various British personalities have, over the years, been removed and kept in the Munipality premises. You just cannot say all British were bad. There were some who did good for the people they ruled and introduced many systems that has helped us a lot, say education, hospitals, bridges, roads, etc., which have stood the test of time. I am quite confident that British rulers were no where as corrupt as the present day netas, who may go to temples and do all sorts of rituals, but at the end of the day they are rotten and corrupt. However, we Indian are very patient and tolerate them and some go to defend their icons, whom they consider as Gods and vehemently oppose any criticism of them in scandals and other irregularities.

Made Photo Frames,Jewellery Boxes,Wooden Churners to make Payasam(Vorn) to be sold and money given to needy Students through S M L. Dear Mr. Lewis You are absolutely right. All that the Indian politicians have to ask themselves is – “why is it that Indians do a lot better in western countries and how is it that a few of them even were awarded Nobel Prize?”. And you have answered the question correctly – “The best Indian brains suffer due to the inherent red-tape, nepotism, corruption and all other evils prevalent in India, compelling them to emigrate to U.S.A. and other fresh pastures. And these brains have been a blessing in disguise to their adopted lands.” – Indian politicians have been interested in the remittances and investments from the NRIs. They have no interest in creating opportunities for the brightest and the smartest. Indians in the USA not only have a higher median income than the local Americans but they also are the highest earners amongst all ethnic groups!

BEGGING – this is a well written article by Ms. Violet Pereira and her team. In Udupi town too begging is going unchecked. There is a syndicate of young ladies begging with an infant tied to their waist. This is a big gang from outside of Karnataka. These ladies beg on the KM Marg, at all these 4 bus stands, Udupi Municipal, City, Service, and the Manipal bus stands. They target mainly ladies believing that ladies are merciful and compassionate, and can easily be fooled too! The Police personnel observe these beggars, but take no legal action, and this activity goes unchecked. When was the last time Mangalorean.com visit Udupi to check this menace?

  • From Satish on Mangaluru : Tata-Sky CSRs are the 'WORST' People to Deal with in Solving your TV Channels Issues

So don’t trust the TATA brand any more. I was using their cars, tea, salt, dal, gold (tanishq) and Tatasky. The bank whose ATM cards I use has a maintenance contract with a TATA company – TCBIL. They seem to collect the money from the banks but have subcontracted all the work doen the line, up to sweeping the ATM rooms. Most of the ATMs don’t work, cash loading is at the whims of the sub-contractor so most of the time “cash out”, A/Cs are not working, doors don’t close, no sweeping or cleaning. Never expected any company taking a large contract to do this. Because of the bad ATMs the bank has lost many customers. Now Tatasky. Down since April 1. Today I receive a message about recharge due! No proper response from maintenance, only false promises of coming to attend within 48 hours. The hour never comes. I am shifting providers tomorrow, the beginning of the next month. The TATA brand cannot be trusted any more. Like many others out there, these people have also started to be bothered about the sale only, not the service. Time to move away.

  • From Nelson Lewis on India Needs to be Ready to Face Wars and Internal Crises

Dr. Manmohan Singh was India’s most incompetent Prime Minister who left the country, people and mainly the armed forces in a total state of neglect. Though, he has been perceived to be the honest man, the very fact that as the Prime Minister of the country, he kept his eyes closed and did nothing, speaks very poorly of him. Even his own community of Sikhs make jokes of him. He was the Godfather of all scams and irregularities and took orders from a person, who had no skills worth a name. Dr. Singh could not handle Pakistan and did not give any sense of direction to the armed forces and left them in a state of utter confusion. On the contrary, he sent choicest mangoes, sweets, etc. to the highly corrupt Prime Minister of Pakistan. Dr. Singh sat on the Prime Minister’s chair in order to enjoy the perks and privileges that go with that position and the free foreign trips he could make with his wife under official capacity, though he could not show any results. He is an utterly shameless and pathetic person. Mr. Narendra Modi may not be a perfect leader and he has his faults. However, when it comes to country’s security and the needs of the armed forces he is responsive. Further, in Nepal’s earthquake tragedy, he has acted very, very fast, before China and others could make an entry and take credit. In case of Dr. Singh, he would have done nothing, until he got the nod of his boss.

  • From B. Dinesh on The Pathetic Academic Culture of Mangaluru

Dr. Ahmed, I am not sure where to start the response to your extremely well written article about academic issues in Mangalore. First of all, I am surprised that you decided to go back to Mangalore after earning a PhD in Mathematics from UC Davis! May be you felt that you had to give back something to your country. The issues you raised have been there since the 1960s. I attended St. Aloysius High School and did my Pre University at st. Aloysius College. I then left the country as I had seen no good opportunities in India at that time. When I matriculated in late 1960s, the SSLC syllabus was set by a board in Bangalore. The paper was set by another team of teachers and the answer papers were corrected yet by another group! None of the teachers who taught me had a say in setting the syllabus, the test papers nor in correcting the answer books! This was the same pattern in PUC under Mysore University! Somehow I managed to get good grades. Yet, when I applied to the then Tata institute to attend a 3-month Fortran programming course, I was rejected as I had NO degree in Mathematics! This is what they wanted! Disgusted, I left the country and went to London – got my degrees in Computer and Software Engineering. None of my examination papers were set by anyone else other than the professors who taught me nor were they corrected by someone else other than the professor who taught the course. I worked for a few years in London and also taught as an Adjunct Professor. I moved the US 30 years ago and have been working for a large computer company and also been an Adjunct Professor at a local university and have taught over a dozen different courses and thousands of students. Never has my university or department ever intervened in my teaching affairs. The undergrad committee sets the course requirements, pre-reqs, and objectives. I set the syllabus, I set the quiz/exam papers, grading policy, and I grade the papers. This is the general method in the USA. I am writing this for the benefit of others and not Dr. Ahmed as I am sure that she has gone through a similar process at UC Davis. BTW – I also taught students from Tata Institute and IIT and of course I had the last laugh! Dr. Ahmed, you may be better recognized at a different educational institution than the one in Mangalore. Often, we all are a victim of our own emotion based decisions. The quality of teaching, the quality of students in India has been eroding for decades. Everyone in the computer industry India wants a fancy title like ‘software engineer’ though they never did a computer or software engineering degree! There are layers and layers of management in US companies operating in India while in the west the same companies are reducing the layers of management. When these students from India come to the US, they first look for old examination papers – a habit from Indian college days – and then when questions are not repeated as they expected, they are a disaster! Your talents and capabilities deserve a lot better – you may want to come back to the USA and teach here. Like many highly educated and well qualified Indians, you may find peace and success here! I wish you every success.

    • From Nelson Lewis on The Pathetic Academic Culture of Mangaluru

Dear Mr. B. Dinesh, It was quite interesting to read about your experiences. The best Indian brains suffer due to the inherent red-tape, nepotism, corruption and all other evils prevalent in India, compelling them to emigrate to U.S.A. and other fresh pastures. And these brains have been a blessing in disguise to their adopted lands. I am told that every third or fourth engineer, professor, lawyer, scientist and other professionals are U.S. nationals (of Indian origin). 63% of U.S. nationals (of Indian origin) are graduates, whereas the “All America” percentage is 36 or 37%. Whereas, the average annual earnings of U.S. nationals (of Indian origin) per head works out to $ 90,000/-, whereas the “All America” average works out to $ 55,000/-. At least these figures should open the eyes of the Indian politicians.

Poojari forgets the fact that Modi became what he is today because of thousands of Sakshi Maharajas and Sadhvi Prachis who made false allegations, who spread religiously infuriating rumours, hyped Hindu religious frenzy and divided the Indians as Hindus and non-Hindus. In fact, Modi belongs to their league and fraternity. How can Modi take any action against his creators who made him a Prime Minister from out of a RSS pracharak, who thrived on their path in the past to achieve his present heights? Modi can be anything but not a traitor to the RSS!

India is virtually dependent on imports for sophisticated weaponry and it is high time that the Government…..Nelson Lewis. Thanks for the good article. Since Independence India has never made any attempt for manufacture of defene hardware. Successive Congress governments in their 57 years of rule always enjoyed arms import which gave them ample of opportunities to fill their coffers with kickbacks. DRDO has always remained as a most inactive organizations. Modi government for the first time is trying to change face of DRDO. Modi government approved the termination of the contract of Mr. Chander with effect from January 31. Mr. Chander was a retired guy. MMS gave him extension for 18 months for his inefficiency. UPA government never felt that DRDO needs an efficient leader. India lost more Piolets due to MIG crash during the peace time than during the war. The cause of Russian made INS Sindhuratna disaster which killed 18 Indian Navy Sailors will remain a mystery forever. Make in India policy will be a big boom for Indian economy. When a small country like Israel could become self-reliant why not India become a global power in defence productions.

“UPA government never felt that DRDO needs an efficient leader.” – SAYS Krishna! DRDO WAS A TOTAL WASTE ACCORDING TO KRISHNA. DR APJ ABDUL KALAM WAS MADE THE CHIEF OF DRDO BY UPA. ALL HIS ACHIEVEMENTS AND EXCELLENCE WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY THE CONGRESS. OF COURSE, HE BLOSSOMED TO BECOME A BHARAT RATNA FOR NUCLEAR DETONATION AND LATER PRESIDENT OF INDIA, ALBEIT, FOR WRONG REASONS! HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM. FOR, RAJA RAMANNA DID IT IN 1974. BUT BJP GAVE THE CREDIT TO KALAM IN 1998 FOR NUCLEAR DETONATION AND BESTOWED BHARATA RATNA ON HIM. ALL FOR THE WRONG REASONS. FOR INDIRA GANDHI PRESIDED OVER FIRST NUCLEAR DETONATION AND NOT VAJPAYEE! KALAM WAS A MILITARY ROCKETRY MAN AND NOT A NUCLEAR SCIENTIST. HE BECAME THE PRESIDENT OF INDIA BY DEFAULT. FOR RSS WANTED TO MAKE A NON-HINDU TO BE ELECTED THE NEXT PRESIDENT, JUST TO PREEMPT THE BECOMING OF SONIA GANDHI, A NON-HINDU, THE PRIME MINISTER NEXT TIME; PLAYING ON THE POSSIBLE HINDU SENTIMENT THAT BOTH THE PRESIDENT AND PRIME MINISTERS SHOULD NOT BE NON-HINDUS, CONCURRENTLY! CONGRESS REJECTED P. C. ALEXANDER PROPOSED BY RSS. RSS REJECTED KRISHNAKANTH FOR HE WAS A HINDU AND RSS GAME PLAN NEEDED A NON-HINDU, AND NOT A HINDU! KRISHNA KANTH DIED OF MASSIVE HEART ATTACK JUST BECAUSE PRAMOD MAHAJAN TOLD HIM THAT HIS NAME WAS REJECTED BY THE RSS AS HE HAPPENED TO BE A HINDU. RSS MAKES SOME HINDUS AND BREAKS SOME OTHER HINDUS, ALL IN THE NAME OF HINDUISM!

    • From shAikH moHD rizwaan on India Needs to be Ready to Face Wars and Internal Crises

Make in India policy will be a big boom for Indian economy. When a small country like Israel could become self-reliant why not India become a global power in defence productions.-Mr.Krishna,India Sir,A decade before GSLV is launched into orbit, in December 1982, India had formed a cryogenic study team to focus on the development of an engine which could generate a thrust of 10 tonnes. But the project did not take off because Isro realized indigenous development of such engines would pose major technological challenges. It then decided to import these engines from Russia to expedite its GSLV programme. The Indian quest to acquire cryogenic technology faced not just technological challenges but also geopolitical sanctions. In fact, the US had at one point tried to scuttle India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) project.Despite all those hurdles and less than 300 crores budget allocation, our own space research programme idegenously built putting the nation in top six countries in the world. http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2014-01-09/news/46030395_1_cryogenic-engine-mahendragiri-isro In the middle of the euphoria about the launch of Mangalyaan, India’s Mars probe, it may seem churlish to bring up the question of whether the space programme could have been more efficient and produced results earlier. Before PM Modi government take the credit and talks about ‘Vimans’ flying 7000 years ago ,the 60 years of Congress ruling has already ‘Made in India’ technology. Then comes the supercomputer,The idea of such a computer was first floated in 2009 at the supercomputing conference in 2009. Intel has announced it would develop the computer by 2018. USA has put aside a substantial sum for it while India too has committed $ 2 billion. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore are expected to develop a supercomputer with 132.8 exaflops by 2017.Then Indian scientists and technologists took the challenge of “Made in India” Supercomputer. For this purpose a new institution was set up in 1988 by the name “Centre for Development of Advanced Computing” (C-DAC). The success came within two years; in 1990 first prototype of Indian Supercomputer was built. It was named ‘Param’ (Parallel Machine), the word ‘Param’ is Sanskrit in origin and it means ‘The Supreme’. The prototype was benchmarked at the 1990 Zurich Supercomputer Show. India became second after USA. In 1991 the first full-fledged Indian Supercomputer, ‘Param 8000’ was installed. It had a speed of 1 GigaFLOPS. Even before former PM Vajpayee tested the capacity of Nuclear bombs, the predecessor government under PM Indira Gandhi designed, produced and tested “Smiling Buddha” was the assigned code name of India’s first nuclear weapon explosion on 18 May 1974. The defence ministry released the Defence Procurement Policy of 2013 which had only been outlined earlier. The full policy contains unprecedented clauses and rules that add teeth to the MoD’s declared intention to promote indigenisation. An Indian-built Dhruv, or Advanced Light Helicopter,LCA are the other achievement already in our skies. The defence ministry released the Defence Procurement Policy of 2013 which had only been outlined earlier. The full policy contains unprecedented clauses and rules that add teeth to the MoD’s declared intention to promote indigenisation. PM Modi only talked about pseudo mythological based science and still allocated worth $ 15 billion defence contract to Isreal,French and USA to ‘Make in India’. For PM Modi it is time to walk the talk rather than wearing ‘made in London’ pinned suit addressing the intellectuals in science congress to present the stone age technology to put the nation backward. Buying and running the bullet train won’t be our national pride, unless we improve the ‘Skybus’ technology designed by Konkan Railways. Jai hind

Children of farmers are now are getting education . Very few are following the profession of their peers. We will face dire situation if migration from farmer profession to other profession takes place rapidly. In D.K. itself we are coming across plenty of farmland without nil cultivation . If this continues for another 10 years we may have to import all our food grain requirements. One more green revolution is the need of the hour with consolidated , mechanized farming. Land bill envisaged by NDA may be with this thought in mind.

I am very saddened that Nepal has had to face the catastrophe of massive earthquake that has resulted in major loss of lives, injuries to many and destruction of private, public properties and world heritage sites. I have always had a soft corner for Nepalese people, based on my interaction with them during my youth and later when I was abroad. They are very hard working people, honest and loyal. Further, there are 40,000 Nepalese donning the uniforms of the Indian Army and they are a very good infantry force that is capable of fighting in any adverse conditions and even in mountains. They are highly adept in using the khukri, instead of the bayonet, with telling and lethal effect. As such Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and this earthquake will be a jolt on Nepal and it will require massive injection of aid and funds from many countries. Contrary to the negative views expressed by one or two commentators on this forum, who always have blinkered and prejudiced outlook and suffer from paranoia, considering the geo-political situation in the region I have to commend the Indian Government for rushing immediate assistance to Nepal in matters of hours after the tragedy. India has committed mistakes in the past, especially when Sri Lanka wanted help and cooperation during the premiership of Dr. Manmohan Singh, when he did nothing and the Chinese entered in a big way. At least if India gives massive aid to Nepal, that country will be very much obliged to India and offer her massives projects for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the country.

In order inflict more damage to the wounds, now they have banned ‘Cow slagughter’ when not even 40% of fodder is not avilable for the animals. Now the BJP government which banned cow citing agriculture reason now have no option but offer ‘Go Mutra’ ‘Gobbar’ to the hunger of farmers. While ‘Go Hataya’ is not permissible under PM Modi for domestic consumption but for the sake of foreign exchange exports is allowed by the Hindus. Aab ki bar Modi sarkar, Kissan ka parivar anath. • From Anand Dsilva on The distressed Indian farmer

Madam, your articles are very interesting to read. If we reflect on our own lives we will realize just about 2 generations back our ancestors were farmers because that was the only way of generating food and making a living. Most of the food was produced in our own backyard and it goes for most of the people anywhere in India probably the world. When people got educated we thought farming is a labour job meant for the uneducated. Most of us migrated to cities and we expected good jobs with big salaries or set up businesses with good profits but in return we expect the groceries that we bring home must be cheap. Rice must be cheap, vegetables must be cheap, fruits must be cheap. So there is squeezing going on everywhere and I feel the most exploited person is the poor farmer who has to sweat it out and get nothing in returns. How can a farmer buy a Rs 50 lakh apartment? We hear a person dealing in stocks makes huge profits or someone working in a good co. earning high salary for a 9 to 5 job who can afford some luxuries and things like that. We expect our mutual funds to give a return of 10% plus, we expect our properties to fetch double in few years so why not farmer also make some money like that out of his own hard labour. If a farmer should not commit suicide we the non farming community who fill our stomachs because of hard work of these farmers should be generous enough to pay a little extra so that the benefit is passed on to the farmer. Some big companies have already this method in place that they give back profits to the farming community by giving them better price on their yields. I think these things should come out in a person out of compassion because it cannot be taught in schools.

Canada is indeed a “Multi-cultural” nation in all aspects of the word “Internationalism”. Canada has been blessed abundantly with ample space, much larger than the United States. Canada has well established the Provinces where you can distinctly witness the cultural diversities added with languages and display of many origins from the global environment. Canadians are a friendly bunch of people who know too well the value of CULTURE amongst all the other features they adore from the foreign immigrants. When an Immigrant gets the Citizenship the Canadian authorities make it succinctly clear not to ever lose our heritage, and they make it sincerely known that our cultural identity is very important for the progress and prosperity of Canada. We would like to visit the Canadian International School some time in Bangalore and share our fond memories of Canada, and all our deep affection and love for all the great things Canada has extended to us for the past 35 plus years. Oh ! Canada, we owe our grateful thanks to thee !! Canada taught us all about the “Snow Country” when we landed straight from the desert. Canada taught us what is Synthetic Oil from the Oil Sands versus the Conventional Oil. Canada also taught us how valuable the Immigrants are for the growth and prosperity of the Nation, and most importantly Canada also taught us to how help each other, understand one another, as human beings. The biggest blessing, the most valuable blessing for Canada is to have a great neighbor called U.S.A.who stands by with Canada as a beloved Sister Nation and supports in all aspects of Economic, Social, Cultural and Political life. Crossing the borders of Canada and the U.S.A., frankly speaking, much easier and smoother than crossing the “Charmady Ghadi” or “Shiradi Ghady”. God help India, U.S.A. and Canada because all these 3 countries are very dear to us as a family.

A great public relations stunt by the MLA. Since when have land deals in India been done in accordance with market value? Isn’t there an unwritten rule of 60 percent in white and 40% in black for any land sale transaction? And what about the mafia that controls all this?

Nice and interesting story of 150 years of existence of the Conception Immaculate Church of Urwa. It is amazing how the Christianity of Mangalore survived so long and expanded so well creating a large congregation of Catholics who contributed for the welfare and prosperity of Mangalore. More and more history of Mangalore need be unearthed and publicized and that is one way to awaken the people of Mangalore, specially the non-Christians to appreciate that we too have contributed a great deal for the progress of a community as a whole even from the time of Tippu Sultan. We wonder who came to Urwa first – the Catholicn Diocese or the A.C. Nuns at Lady Hill Convent. Kindly clarify.

How could they explain the jam for over three hours? Traffic did not move coming from the city even an inch for nearly 2 hours!! Police need proper traffic management training.. Despite work going on, and traffic jam becoming a routine problem no police patrolling is seen on this stretch and the area is pitched dark. At least some lights should be put up at some diversion junctions.. I agree that police force need to be increased but that is no reason why they can put in their optimum efforts…

What Alfie wrote about Tata Sky is 100 percent true. I lost the net work more than month and still they collected the subscription money. How many times a person has to call this outfit to get their services which are paid for. Call for service and it takes at least 10 minutes for answer. Even then answers are meaning less and spoken in such a way hard to understand what they are saying. Also they will not tell when their service men are coming for service. They will not call before coming and show up when no one is at home. Their Royal behavior expect us to wait for them, 24 hours a day, for few days. I think it is time for Consumer department to take action against this company.

It is extremely kind and noble on the part of Sheikh Humdhan bin Rashid AlMahtourm to encourage young students from India to be selected to honor them with public Awards for their exemplary performance in studies at U.A.E. Many other Arab dignitaries gathered for the auspicious occasion is indeed noteworthy. These kind of awards and recognitions are not only a pride for the selected students as well as their families, but also a awareness and incentive for the local Arab students to realize that Indian students are hard working and determined to be the “best of the best” in their intellectual performance. Far away we come from our home towns with our families, and far away we outshine in our Educational achievements and make our dreams a reality. Many of these Indian students will continue to remain loyal to their host countries and will remain patriotic in their successful existence by giving their very best to the Arab nations. It is all mutual, and it is all the process of “giving and taking” so that everyone enjoys the benefit of our hard work, honest work and determined work.

When the whole world marches on towards progress, we are steadily or rather rapidly moving backwards. The present government at the center as well as, in Maharastra are unaware that it is easier to slide backwards but takes ages to cover the lost ground. There is always a limitation to the stupidity but here in India, there is no limit to utter stupidity. Dubai, though not a democratically run government, believes in democracy, the needs of people and above all strive hard to maintain law and order and gain momentum in progressing themselves as one of the most sort after place for visit, work and live. Beef ban is intended to make the farmers of Maharashtra further poor by not allowing them to sell even the unproductive cattle so that out of sheer poverty they will agree to sell their precious farm land to grabbers at pea nuts. This is what Rahul Gandhi said in the parliament. First make the farmers poor and then hit them hard with the Land ordinance Bill.

  • From Anand Dsilva on If Pork is Served Freely in Dubai, Why not Serve Beef in Mumbai?

It is because some fanatic Hindus who hate Muslims and Christians want to show their dominance over them. For centuries Indians of various religions must have been eating beef and our ancestors knew it but they were hardly bothered as those who did not want to eat simply abstained from it. When I read comments on articles related to this topic, I come across various people who are living outside India where beef is available but they want to be banned in India citing it hurts their religious beliefs. If that so, how do they live almost all their life in foreign countries. This doesn’t mean all Hindus are against it. Currently anti religious sentiment in India is at a all time high thanks to the ruling party that has invoked religion to polarize people and get maximum share of vote from the majority community.

  • From shAikH moHD rizwaan on If Pork is Served Freely in Dubai, Why not Serve Beef in Mumbai?

Dear readers, There is no religious compulsion to the ‘Go Matha’ for BJP, accept that this trade of ‘Pink revolution’ has deeply associated with the economic conditions of Muslims of India. While Swami vivekananda to Hindu religious scriptures openly talking about the consumption, the RSS political wing BJP made this political issue to grab the Hindu vote bank showing sympathy to suffering of cows by fellow Muslim citizens of this nation. If BJP ruled Goa is free to sell ‘Beef’ why can’t rest of India under BJP ruled state follow the suit? As per Hindu religious scripture when the demon Hiranyaksha stole the earth and hid her in the primordial waters, Vishnu appeared as Varaha to rescue her. Varaha slew the demon and retrieved the Earth from the ocean, lifting it on his tusks, and restored Bhudevi to her place in the universe. Indeed ‘Wild boar’ has more significance than cow.Why does only cow became dear to RSS ruled BJP not ‘Wild boar’? How does BJP ruled state justify the use of other derivatives of beef trade which in one or the other form used in Pharmaceuticals, photo industry, Fashion etc? Does RSS pass ‘Farman’ ask his volunteers tie the Chaddis with ropes instead of Hide and ask to wear Synthetic shoes during ‘Path Sanchalan’? Why did BJP ruled states banned only cow when Vedas name atleast 250 animals for sacrificial cause? Why did BJP is afraid to debate the subject in public and attach religious compulsion? Why did it banned the D.N.Jha book on the truth of ‘Myth of holy cow’? http://kathleenwhite1971.blog.com/2014/04/02/the-myth-of-the-holy-cow-pdf-download/ “Why do not political parties buy the cows instead of us and ensure them a decent life? This is not about protecting cows, it is about playing politics,” Jai Hind

  • From A. S. Mathew on If Pork is Served Freely in Dubai, Why not Serve Beef in Mumbai?

There is no other democratic country in the world like India with varying fundamental laws affecting the citizens of the same country. Citizens residing in the six States of the Union don’t have the fundamental right to change religion through the rigid laws enacted; thus infringing the fundamental right. The citizens of those States can move to the neighboring States and change religion. Now another greatly surprising law prohibiting the food consumption. Even today, massive export of beef is conducted from various States of India and the people of the vast majority of the States can consume beef; but the unfortunate people of Maharastra will be hit with jail term up to 5 years and penalty of Rs. 10000.00 for handling beef. The State of Haryana’s degree of punishment will be double for the same sin committed in Maharastra. The Home Minister was so fervent in the earlier days to enact a national “beef ban” and anti-conversion laws with the highly charged inspiration from Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, but now keeping a mysterious silence. Why? The Home Minister at least must instruct the Haryana Government to be fair and equal with the great and holy Maharastra Government in penalizing the residents of Haryana; thus some equality in the largest democratic country.

All wants their children to be engineers and then follow up by MBA. what about pure sciences. nearly 90% of Mangaloreans don’t know the carrier choices after SSLC. They just think either Medical or Engineering so they join Science.Parents think if you above 70% in SSLC then Science….above 50% but below 70% then Commerce….rest below 50% arts. This is totally bad and very cruel on part of the child. Hindu Land Should Not be sold to Muslims – Swami Pranavananda Dear readers, While imported Malayalee swami hired by RSS in the absence of banned Tagoida the ‘ghettoisation’ of Gujarat model is replicated in karnataka. The main stream saffron terror continues their pogrom of ‘Ghar vapsi’ our touring PM Modi seems like suffering from “Somniloquy or sleep-talking” to the domestic affairs certaining communalism only reassuring to the world body under the glamour of International media coverage. In one hand Modi is projecting the ‘Gujarat model’ and ‘vibrant Gujarat’,RSS imposing its own version of israelis land grab. India election 2014: Welcome to Bhavnagar, where Muslims are free to live – as long as they change their name http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/india-election-2014-welcome-to-bhavnagar-where-muslims-are-free-to-live–as-long-as-they-change-their-name-9287186.html It certainly caught the attention of Ali Asghar Zaveri, a Muslim scrap metal dealer, who completed the purchase at the beginning of the year and was preparing to move in. But the 30-year-old Mr Zaveri has not been able to occupy his property because many of his prospective Hindu neighbours do not want to live next to a Muslim. For the last few months, residents of the Krishna Nagar neighbourhood have been sitting outside Mr Zaveri’s property, chanting Hindu prayers and banging metal plates in protest. This week, the issue earned national attention after the leader of an extremist Hindu organisation delivered a speech in which he allegedly urged the residents to occupy the property by force and not to fear the law. “Go with stones, tyres and tomatoes,” Pravin Togadia, president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), reportedly said. As a part of colonisation his government has planned massive township for Kashmiri pandits in Jammu and apartheid rule continues driving Muslims in Gujarat in the name of development and eviction through communal tensions. We don’t have any right to question what two consenting adults do in their privacy. However, if there is any abuse, damage or violence, we have an obligation to look into and investigate the matter. This also explains why some folks never understand the idea of ‘sthala-sampradaaya’ (local tradition). It is good to see that at long last the language issue in the Archdiocese of Bangalore has been resolved. There was no better strategy than to have people other than associated with the Bangalore Diocese to study the situation and propose a satisfactory solution to the gnawing problem which has prevailed for over forty years. The duly constituted trio like Emeritus Archbishop Thomas Menaparampil of Gauwati, Bishop Agnelo Gracias of Mumbai and Bishop Thomas Dabre of Pune were the best choice. I join several others faithful in saying kudos to Archbishop Bernard Moras for the trouble and initiative taken by him in his concept for an amicable settlement of the issue. • From drona on Bengaluru: Archdiocese finally finds permanent solution for long-standing language issue

I wonder what Fr Cedric Prakash AJ has to say on this issue of languages. Prof Praveena may not have a problem with language from down South. He needs to visit Bangalore and see the problem there. The actual majority is reduced to a minority. Kannada speaking church goers end up taking a back seat whereas some Arokiasami will be at the altar. Of course there is always this allegation against the Mangaloreans who speak in Konkani but are a dominant force despite their smaller numbers compared to the Kannada speaking brethren. So what is the conclusion? Is it different strokes for different folks? Or is it that all are equal but some are more equal? Or is it ‘the senior amongst equals syndrome”? Incidentally Bangalore bandh is being observed today. This of course is to protest against the Tamilians who demand the share of Cauvery water. [Mekedaatu dam] Cauvery feeds the Tanjore delta which produces paddy. [Good quality] There should be some understanding between the Southern states in these matters and this matter also should be sorted out once and for all. Do we have to refer this matter also to the Vatican? Or is it just enough to refer it to the golden lady? Oops. That was before 16h May 2014 guys. Almost forgot. No problem though. Praveena can google and give some suggestion which he so readily does. God bless his spirit. [Of offering free unsolicited advice]

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Bengaluru: Archdiocese finally finds permanent solution for long-standing language issue

Language is purely a mode of communication. Thru the benefit of the language we interact with people and survive day after day and exist and co-exist in our daily pattern of life. Language between a human being and the Almighty is something that is unique. It is the language of faith that can be any language so long as we know that we are communicating internally with God and satisfy ourselves that we have conveyed our daily message thru our faith, love and respect towards God. All our childhood days we have prayed within our home in Konkany, and we went to our nearby churches where the liturgical services were in Latin and the rest of the prayers including the homily was in Konkany. We recited Latin prayers and felt fully convinced that we followed the solemnity of the liturgy and felt strongly convinced that we interacted with God in every step of the way. While in America many times we have taken part in the liturgical services that were in Spanish and internally we still recited a language that was dear to us and known to us. We fully appreciate that in Karnataka State the language of Kannada will eventually dominate the liturgy, and our faith in God that is so deep will continue to prevail, and gradually we shall catch up with the Lords Prayer also in Kannada, hopefully before we move towards our eventually destiny.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangaluru: PWD Releases Rs 6 crore for Tannirbavi-Sultan Battery Suspension Bridge

Every little connection either thru a bridge or a street, every extension and expansion to the existing roadways will pave way for progress in the mobility system of our life in Mangalore. Each and every highway has to be expanded, broadened and brightened with lights, connected with telephone lines with the help of more uniformed officers on the road to control the traffic, avoid any blockage and also avoid any misuse. Violators need be punished. Throwing of garbage and filth on the road should be forbidden, with a few rest facilities for people to take a break, if needed. With growing population, and also with growing youth with permission to drive a vehicle or a auto or a motor bike, there will be always an upward trend of traffic. Obviously these users of mobility will pay handsome taxes that should enable the planners to think big on the road systems and facilities. A small bridge connecting Tannir Bavi will be a small contribution in the right direction. Thank you, Mr. J. R. Lobo for your thoughtful insight.

An illegal hutment, is illegal anywhere in the world, irrespective of it’s occupants, whether people from Karnataka or Timbuktu. A person appointed in the Indian constitution should know this better. It’s sad that an educated politician from Karnataka should take a stand on revenge on IT professionals from Goa working in Bangalore, if illegal hutments are demolished in Goa. Whatever gives him the authority and the right to mean in his derogatory statement In fact, this minister should also follow the footsteps of Goa, and arrange to demolish all illegal hutments and shops in Karnataka. That would have better serve Karnataka, as illegalities breed corruption.

Dear readers, Ironically behind the symbolic price reduction is fooling the common man by PM Modi’s government proportional to the International Brent oil. When Brent is at its peak $140/ barrel UPA is still sold petrol at current rate of PM Modi’s central government.Even though it has crashed to less than $60 at its current market price it never seems coming down seriously. The prices should have been came to its half with respect to the International pricing. It seems payback time for Ambanis who are key sponsors of BJP 2014 election campaign. ‘Sab Ka corporate ka sath,BJP ka vikas’.Minimum government maximum corruption Jai Hind

  • From O.E on New blood test predicts breast cancer years ahead

The orthodox medical business has been promising and announcing to the public countless new “breakthrough” cancer treatments over the last century. Almost none are worth anything. And you can readily recognize it by the fact that the “war on cancer” has been, by and large, a total failure ( read the afterword of this article on the war on cancer: do a search engine query for “A Mammogram Letter The British Medical Journal Censored” or go directly to http://www.supplements-and-health.com/mammogram.html ). “Promising” cancer therapies are always only coming from the highly lucrative business of orthodox medicine (like the one described in this article), ensuring their great profits and wealth, whereas relevant inexpensive alternative cancer therapies get suppressed and eradicated by this big business cartel. No wonder many highly credentialed people call the orthodox medicine a mafia…

Really did not understand why their caste needed to be highlighted. Was it not enough to publish that these two respected lecturers got married on Ambedkar’s birthday? They are individuals like all of us – why media needs to make a big news about their origin? They deserve all the respect as any other community people sans caste!

I was thinking that this young man was brought in for some minor mistake. But when Police man told me about this young man I was speechless. At the age of 21,He was dealing in LSD through a Austrian in Goa. What a daring boy He should be. Mr. Naresh Manipady, Your suggestion is good but Roy had to find a Honest Person to confess. Most of them are sinners themselves and cheaters too. It is like Sinners dealing with Sinners in God’s name.

I still remember ordering ‘solid chutney with dosa.’They used to oblige with that order.Again dum aloo kashmiri at Valley View was also good. Annapoorna canteen with their lovely special koorma, veg biryani, chappati made Sundays special. Sudarshan was OK for some quick bite. Shantala or Shanty as it was called also one place we frequented. Now Manipal has many places one can visit for lunch/dinner.

Dog’s tail is impossible to straighten. Look at the road sides from Bithurli to Volachil. Even around new Mangala Paramedical School in Pedamale. Students from this school went to clean Neermarga while leaving filthy their own school roadside. Here is a real ill effect of Swacha Pedamale. A dozen or so Students were standing near school waiting for Bus. At the same time a tempo fellow dumped some trash in front of these students. None of them cared a damn about it . Same school students went somewhere to tell others how to keep clean surroundings.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Saudi Arabia: Konkan Ghar Riyadh Celebrates Easter

Are “Konkan Qutam” and “Konkan Ghar” two separate entities in one city of Riyadh where there must be nothing more than 200 Konkhan stalwarts??? First of all you are celebrating the feast of Easter in a land where there is so much of close surveillance on all the religious activities, and now that you have one “Qutahm” and one “Ghar” which should all operate as discretely and as delicately as possible in order to maintain the privacy. Remember, I was in that great country for more than twenty years, and I have a great attachment to the people, the places as well as even the sand dunes and the pipelines. We want you all to work together and help one another, and most importantly understand each other by keeping the four walls of the “Ghar” and display the sign of unity by being one single “Qootaam”. “Dhev Bhoren Korun”.

  • From A. S. Mathew on New Delhi: 'Stop Exporting Beef, Then Killing of Cows will Stop' - SP Leader Azam Khan

India is the 2nd largest exporter of beef, about 20% of the beef export in the world, second to Brazil. What kind of a national hypocrisy is this? The protein rich beef is forbidden to the citizens of India, but only for export. The hypocrite cow loving politicians must keep an old cow inside their posh mansions provided by the tax-payers and they must take care of the cow like their own mother, feed and give a bath; also must take with them when they travel as if taking their own beloved mother. When the electorate of India will get some sense to understand this political trick of the politicians?

  • From Mangal on Mangaluru: Garbage Woes Stare at You all the Way to Pilikula Park- What Happened to Swachh Bharat?

People have elected the globetrotter so that HE organises all the cleaning up. Isn’t that what Indian democracy all about? Cast the vote to the man with promises too good to be true. Now, unfortunately the globetrotter is too busy trotting the globe. He other half is busy changing the people at the top end, and perhaps handling the Press-Release-wallahs. The globetrotter had kindly asked Mr Siddaramaiah, (and not a BJP CM), to take charge of the rubbish removal. Mr Siddaramaiah, ever alert about the globetrotter’s many ploys, kindly refused. So let us see what magic wand the globetrotter will produce to do things that the previous Government could not. Until then, let us live in the mess of our own creation.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangaluru: Fulbright Specialist Dr Lorna Gonsalves from USA to Launch 'Reflection Park' at Roshini Nilaya

Establishing a “Reflection Park” at Roshni Nilaya under the expert Leadership of Dr. Lorna Gonsalves would be a marvelous idea indeed. The intellectual crop of Mangalore should be thrilled with this proposal and should therefore embrace this thought overwhelmingly with an all-out support. Interaction between faculty members of different Educational Groups in Mangalore does take time. Faculty members are little hesitant to come forward and express their views on so many issues that need be addressed spontaneously with an open heart because each Institution has their own internal policies and philosophies while sharing their ideas openly for public debates. Dr. Lorna Gonsalves however has selected the right Institution in Mangalore to expose the “Reflection Park”, and we are sure that both Dr. Jacinta D’Souza and Dr. Sophie will extend their best possible support. We were in Mangalore last year for the Annual Day of Roshni Nilaya where they brought a lady from the Mangalore University to be the key-note Speaker. The presentation that Dr. Sophie made thru an impressive power point presentation on the wide spectrum of Roshni Nilaya’s intellectual activities followed by the key note speech from Dr. Begum was highly admirable. Mangalore has the best substance to reciprocate all that Dr. Lorna Gonsalves has in store and you have our whole hearted support for this worthy cause towards Mangalore that will benefit from all around. God bless Mangalore, because thru the Educational foundation and support Mangalore will continue to flourish ‘ten-fold’.

Mr. Amith Shaw, the sole authority of the BJP party now, while standing in front of his huge poster at the Delhi election delivered the sermon of paradise, the black money statement that every Indian citizen of India will get Rs. 15 lakh was a “metaphorical” statement. Let the electorate of India may walk to the local bank expecting a miracle that they have Rs. 15 lakh in their checking deposit, so write a check believing the miracle in the political promise of Mr. Modi; thus this confusing problem can be solved.

This has helped in creating so much energy and talent in Dahskina Kannada region. However, I don’t understand their fascination with Raajasthan style ‘mundaasu’. This is very different from our tulunaadu-style Mundaasu. I hope they encourage tulunaadu tradition over Bollywood style. Oh well…
