Wonderful & extremely morale boosting example set by this couple, my best wishes for all their future endeavours in life, but main issue to be highlighted will always be of delivery and rusting issues associated with jaws bikes. I had Jawa, then Yezdi n next Yezdi D250 CL II, now honda . I now plan for the Jawa, went to the showroom, but when started the exhaust note was absolutely demoralizing, entirely different from the earlier 2 stroke engines. I now wait for Yezdi’s launch, then decide finally to go ahead with Jawa or Yezdi.

Every community has rich people and poor but in successful communities the percentage of rich people tend to be higher. So, my contention is that those rich people should help their poor people (especially when the full-scale integration of communities is a distant dream for a country like India). Asking for a constitutional privilege is not right in my view as the pork barrel comes from the tax payers’ money. That money has to be wisely spent. In the coastal region we have lately witnessed the pomp in reconstructing a lot of churches. While some of those structure did need some work, but the extent to which some people have gone is frankly ridiculous – they boast about largest ceiling fan, boat-shaped church etc. as if it’s a status symbol. Some of them even contemplated installing central air conditioning but for some reason they pulled back. What next? Hire massage-therapists whilst the priest is preaching from the altar? The same churches also have some living in abject poverty. Therefore why can’t that extravagance used on white elephant projects be spent on helping these poor families? Perhaps a group insurance can be purchased which can help these people. People fall sick and many of them can not afford treatment. But that’s never on the priority list for the people at the top. That said, our current reservation system needs a re-design. It has turned from a tool of empowerment to an option of entitlement for many lazy people. That has to end. /end rant By the way, don’t know why the Portuguese atrocities creeped into this discussion.

They managed to flourish under any circumstances. Henry is right in saying many GSB’s are well off. How did they do that? There are of course many who can do with some help. That is the point Mohandas Pai tried to make. Do any of us or for that matter any one in our country need indefinite reservations? The answer is no. India needs to move up from that.

GSBs are one of the most successful communities in India and especially in the coastal region. They are born entrepreneurs. Well educated too. So, it’s not right that they should fight for reservations or benefits in this day and age. Mr.Pai always tries to look for problems where solution is not necessary. Next are the porbus of our coastal region. For the most part, Christians are economically well off today. But power-hungry and opportunist politicians such as the “Tipu Garlander” Ivan have disgracefully brought in this benefits culture to please his community. Christians should never look for taxpayers’ handouts, instead should develop self respect and give up those benefits for the economically marginalised sections of our society.

Excellent article Alfie…this is actually the need of the hour.I have been always been after these bus guys in one way or the other especially when I see them overtaking with speed from the left side and the deafening honking to go along with it which literally scares people enough to lose balance on their two wheelers and unnerving four wheeler drivers. I have gone so many times and the traffic ACP has always been so proactive enough to take action and at many times have suspended their license. But it goes back to the same shameless and insensitive behavior. Really hope that many more of us bring this to the attention of the traffic police especially when they are really taking action and get these bus operators to stick to the rules. Otherwise all this hard work will be in vain. Thank you Alfie for bringing this to the attention of the readers so that many of us can support the police in whatever way possible.

While I applaud Modi administration for the various policy actions and bold decisions on various geo-political issues (In fact I would vote for him in the next election), I am certainly not a fan of Modi’s economic policies. He is committing one economic blunder after another. He has kicked out the able people from RBI and Finance ministry to replace them with his stooges who would do what he wanted. He has set his eyes on our USD 400 billion foreign exchange reserve to throw at the electorate. That money belongs to the financial soundness of our country and only RBI should be able to use it, not the government for its pork barrel. If Modi continues in this direction, we will soon go the Venezuela way. Neither Modi, nor those who are close to him, seem to under understand economics. Sad but tough times ahead. And trust me, Sitaraman is the most incompetent FinMin ever India has seen. What’s surprising is that Modi is not letting one financially sound, qualified person to remain in key position. This is a really scary thought indeed. Let me tell you how this will play out in the next 5-10 years – when nation goes bankrupt (due to Modi’s unfettered debt binge), he will blame people who have saved (be it savings in a bank or gold) and then will take dictatorial actions to confiscate them because the country will economically collapse otherwise. He will be choice-lessly forced to turn into another Erdogan or Chavez due to the economic blunders he is committing as well speak. Good luck India.

If you thought there is an old man with a white beard, a RayBan, lording over us in a sky-mobile then you are bound to get into the kind of spineless inquiry which is espoused in this article. When you egotistically look at existence to be human-oriented (which is what the mainstream religions of the world today fool the general public with) these kinds of conclusions are but natural. Is there a law in nature that it should not rain beyond a certain level? Why should we bring “god” into it just because the way we have built our infrastructure around us which is not able to cope beyond a certain amount of water? Why do you think your “god” should interfere in all of this when man has created the world around him with lack of foresight into the unforeseen possibilities? Isn’t it the job of the urban planners, engineers and architects to account for all these things when they make a place civilised? Animals are also equal creation of nature as much as man is. Did animals lament as much on this “flood situation” as the human beings are doing at the moment? If we reduce the level of importance we assign to ourselves, perhaps it will help us gain a better perceptive into all of this. May be we should stop blindly believing what people in funny clothes preaching from the pedestal tell us every Snday, instead should give it a chance for ourselves to see if there is more to it than what those “revered” books say. May be those books have something meaningful to say here and there but are we not wrongly contextualising them to suit our own preconceived notions. May be we believe too much on what others have to say. I welcome your thoughts.

The patient was brought by his mother to Ramkrushna ji after getting failure from medical treatment with hope that Paramhansa ji can cure the child by his devotional powers . But Ramkrushna ji took two three occasions to preach the boy to leave the sweets after the mother lost his faith on Ramkrushna ji . The mother went after Paramhansa ji preached at last. When next the mother came with the curred boy to pay her gratitude also wanted to know the cause of taking long time to just preach Ramkrushna ji made it clear that , he himself was also fond of sweets and after he was able to leave the sweets could only had right to preach others to leave it. Thus only one who is successful can advise others as to how achieve success in life. This is an excellent article and wonderful tribute to someone who is the icon of our time. He spent his life with dedication towards his business. A person who studied Arts in college started a company and made it a multi national one. He gave employment to thousands and people like him are needed. He was most needed at this juncture. What happened is pure bad luck to all. I don’t know the work ethics in particular of the HAL staff but most of the other Indian public sector corporations’ staff are so “committed” to their jobs that as soon as the noon bell rings those people will drop whatever urgent job they were doing and run towards the canteen. In fact I wouldn’t trust the products of any corporation where there is state guaranteed pension scheme. That is a surefire sign of the lethargy of their employees. Of course there could be a handful of sincere employees in PSUs too but in general the work ethic lacks in such places.

If looking for an excuse not to go to school is the attitude kids have these days then they might as well quit school and follow Alia Bhatt on social media 24/7. Why waste others’ time and tax payers’ money when it can be put to good use elsewhere. Now with the advent of YouTube, my view is that education should be mandatory only till 7th grade. After that students should pursue their dreams – YouTube has all the resources they need. Today schools have been reduced to day care centers for children so their parents can go to work. And I don’t want to get started about those fancy schools with “international” in their name.

This rather reminds me of the house warming ceremony in our coastal region (“Illu Okkel”)… especially in porbu families. One the day the priest would bless the house and, as a symbolic gesture, would ask each of the family members to inaugurate various facilities in the house such as fire, water, electricity etc. Little do people in those functions know that the electricians, plumbers, painters and floor polishers (with their Bijapur helpers) had actually inaugurated most of the new house facilities (including the toilet) only the previous night.

Mr.Alfie,If I was there,I would have spotted the correct spot of leak. Because couple of years back when MCC was building under ground stupid rainwater drainage system, workers hit the Pipeline and leak started. I was called by Soans Welding Employee to inform Me. When I saw the condition of rusted pipes I was angry. What I saw was a Worker was trying to wrap the Pipe with Police Barricade Tape. Immediately I contacted Mr Laxman Poojary and I brought Him on site from Kambala area Bridge work in my vehicle. He saw and He was shocked too. He said that He will inform area Engineer. By the time I reached Bunts Hostel area,I got a Call from Soans Employees again to Inform Me that, as soon as I left the area,the workers wrapped the tape and covered the Pipe in a hurry with Dirt and Concrete. One writer was worried about noise pollution and its affect on animals. But he couldn’t utter a single word on a festival responsible for biggest slaughter of innocent animals. I was mocked and ridiculed as hindutva supporter, when I was simply pointing out the growing frustration among majority community. People are really sick and tired of being attacked and sidelined by communal parties like Congress, JDS, AAP and others. Indian voters, especially majority Hindus have sent a strong message for the second time to fake-secular parties and fake-secular media houses rejecting their dishonest narrative on social policies. I really hope that people stop being condescending towards majority community and start believing in mutual respect.
