Youth attempts Suicide after ‘Torture’ by Manipal Police
Udupi: A 23-year-old youth allegedly attempted suicide after being tortured by the Manipal Police during investigation.
The youth has been identified as Rakesh Poojary (23) a resident of Bolje of Udyavar. His mother Nalini Shekar has submitted memorandum to the SP and demanded strict action against the Police.
The Youth Rakesh Kumar has been admitted to a private hospital in Manipal after he tried to slit his wrist.
On March 25, the Manipal Police had summoned Rakesh Poojary to the police station in connection with a clash in Manipal. During investigations, it is alleged that the Manipal police had assaulted and tortured Rakesh. The police had also abused him using foul language. After the incident, Rakesh was disturbed and went to a place near Mannapall, where he attempted suicide by slitting his wrist with a Blade.
Rakesh’s mother has submitted a memorandum to the SP demanding stern action against the police. After receiving the memorandum the SP has assured to investigate the case.
