Youth of our Country Under Threat of Drug Abuse – Udupi ASP Kumarchandra

Udupi: “Youth are the asset of every nation, each step they take should be filled with goodness. But today the greatest asset of our country, our youth are under the threat of Drug Abuse. To create awareness among the youth and the student community the district police along with Udupi district working Journalist’s Association, and Udupi Press club has organised various programmes across the district under the “Say No to Drugs” Slogan. Parents should take note of their children’s activities every day,” said Kumarchandra Additional Superintendent of Police Udupi District.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Cycle Jatha against Drug Abuse organised by Udupi district Police, Udupi district working Journalists Association, Udupi Press Club, Kundpaur Sub Division, Byndoor Circle office and Byndoor Police Station Jointly in Byndoor on Sunday, September 30.

“In most of the cases, youth start to get attracted towards drug just to satisfy their curiosity and wish to feel the effect, but then this small beginning takes them to the path of destruction of their life where they find it impossible to return,” he said.

“In our state Udupi district is in the first place in Education and Cleanliness. Society should work together to make Udupi a Drug free district. The department will conduct such programmes continuously to create awareness on drug addiction,” he added.

B P Dinesh Kumar DySP Kundapur in his message said “India is called the nation of the Youth, but today youth of our country becoming drug addicts is a very painful thing. People should be aware of the use of drugs. Everyone who loves the country should join to make our country drug free,” he said.

Michael Rodrigues Joint Secretary of Udupi district working Journalist’s Association called for concrete efforts on the part of law enforcing agencies and members of the society to address drug abuse and addiction.

“Society should join hands to bring out the victims addicted to drugs. The two-month-long campaign has reached each and every student of our district. About 53 cases were reported in Udupi for drug consumption and sale. Such a campaign would help to eliminate drug abuse from the society,” he said.

Zilla Panchayat Member Suresh Batawadi, Byndoor CPI Parameshwar Gunaga, President of Byndoor Taluk Working Journalists Association Janardhana Maravanthe, Devaraj Bhat, Abdul Rehman, Byndoor Rotary Club Rep I. Narayana, Krishnappa Shetty, businessman Nagaraja Ganiga, JCI president Priyadarshini Devadiga, Karunakar Shetty, Gangolli PSI Vasappa Naik, Kollur PSI Shivakumar and others were present.

Byndoor station inspector Thimmesh co-ordinated the whole programme in a smooth manner.

The Youth of every Nation are precious assets. They bring lot of strength and vitality to every household and every community where they belong. If and when any youth becomes victimized with any influence of drugs, this will bring danger to themselves and to all those that get attached to them. Drug is a virus that spreads the influence bringing danger to the society. This is where a Church, a Temple or a Mosque becomes actively involved in influencing the youth the possibilities of all dangers to the entire neighborhood. Youth are an ASSET alright, but NOT those who come in the guise of taking up higher studies in colleges run by TMA Pai, and then having a time of their life by indulging in booze, sex, drugs, and a carefee life without a thought for their parents, themselves, or the society. They are already from crime and drug infested states such as UP, Bihar, Punjab, and Delhi. Drug peddlers must be eradicated/eliminated to totally stop the supply, and if there is no supply, obviously the Youth will not resort to drugs.
