ZP to Focus on Rejuvenation of Water Resources – Dinakar Babu
Manipal: Special efforts will be made to rejuvenate water reservoirs, lakes and ponds in the district said Zilla Panchayat President Dinakar Babu. He was speaking at a press meet held at Dr V S Acharya Memorial Hall, Rajathadri, Manipal here on April 27.
The district is facing a severe water crisis, the water table is dipping, the rejuvenation of the water resources will have an effective impact. The de-silting of water reservoirs, ponds and lakes with the support and cooperation of the people will yield better results.
Udupi district has been declared as an open defecation-free district. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has presented an award to the district. Special efforts are made in managing the waste. Proposals sent by 28-gram panchayats have been approved for implementation of waste management.
286 self-help groups are given training in regard to the usage of cloth bags instead of plastic bags. Rupees 15.5 crores is utilised under MNREGA in the 2016-17 period. The e-office system is implemented in Zilla Panchayat Udupi which has eased file management. The public grievance wing is in operation in the ZP and a toll-free number is now available. A room for keeping the records has been set up in the old ZP building.
