ಒಂದು ಮೊಟ್ಟೆಯ ಕಥೆ! (‘Ondu Motteya Kathe’ means ‘A Story of a Egg’)! ‘Manjeshwar-Our Lady of Mercy Church’s Mission’ to raise Funds on ‘Mission Sunday’ fetches Rs 5000 for One EGG during Auction, held on Sunday, 20 October 2019 in the Church premises.
Mangaluru : We are not talking about the 2017 Kannada language romantic comedy film written and directed by debutant Raj B. Shetty who also appears in the lead role, along with Usha Bhandary, Shailashree, Prakash Tuminadu, Amrutha Naik, Deepak Rai Panaje and others playing supporting roles, in the movie “ಒಂದು ಮೊಟ್ಟೆಯ ಕಥೆ! ( ‘Ondu Motteya Kathe’), but we are talking about the story of One EGG which fetched Rs 5000 during a auction held at a Catholic Church.
Last month Our Lady of Mercy Church in Manjeshwar in Kasargod, made headlines in electronic and print media, when duo men had hurled stones damaging the window panes in the front of the church- and a mega protest was held on the evening of Sunday, August 25, under the leadership of Catholic Sabha of Kasargod zone, also joined by the Catholic Sabha of Mangaluru under the leadership of Rolphy D ‘costa condemning the recent Church attack and also atrocities carried out on the Christian community constantly. Over 5000 people had joined the Catholic Sabhas in this protest.
But on Sunday, 20 October 2019, although the faithful were not in thousands, but where in hundreds participating in a auction to raise funds on Mission Sunday, which is held every year in Catholic Churches. World Mission Sunday is a day set aside for the Catholic Church throughout the world to publicly renew its commitment to the missionary movement. It is celebrated on the penultimate (next-to-last) Sunday of October every year. It was created by Pope Pius XI in 1926 as the day of prayer for missions. The funds raised on Mission Sunday is donated to the Missionary Work carried out by missionaries throughout India and world helping poor people, destitute and the needy.
Like many other Catholic Churches who observe Mission Sunday, so also did Our Lady of Mercy Church in Manjeshwar, and to raise funds they had included a auction as part of the fund raising project. And one of the item to be auctioned among many other items like Rooster, vegetables, etc etc during the event, was a Brown Coloured Egg, and the Parish priest of this Church Fr Vincent Saldanha had the privilege to auction this prestigious EGG, and holding it in his hands, he began his auction strategy, and the starting bidding amount was Rs 1000. The bidding for the EGG went up to Rs 5000 by a man, and that was the final amount, and the proud Man was Vincy D’silva, a parishioner of this Church, who took home the “Golden Egg”, after paying mega bucks for it, which was all for a good cause to help the missionaries to take care of the poor.
Is Vincy D’silva of Manjeshwar going to fry the egg over-easy or sunny side or make a fluffy omelette or will he preserve it in his refrigerator, is a question, yet to get an answer from him. Until then, this all about “ಒಂದು ಮೊಟ್ಟೆಯ ಕಥೆ! ( ‘Ondu Motteya Kathe’ )
