  • From Richard Thomas on Will Fulfil All Demands If given another chance - Pramod Madhwaraj

Nobody truly knows what development works were carried out from the Rs.2000 Cr. grant that is being claimed by Mr, Pramod Madhwaraj. A substantiation to this tall claim would have improved the credibility of this article, The erratic power supply and outage has never ceased and MESCOM hardly cares! The state of main roads have never improved unless protests are carried out – Manipal is a great example. The drainage system has never been reconstructed to meet the rise in population and area wise density. The Storm water natural drainage system is rarely desilted or cleaned unless protests are carried out. Not a single new covered Bus Stop either for private buses or KSRTC buses were erected in Udupi. The Municipal Fruits and Vegetable market in Udupi town is not revamped or concretized. Not a single public Pay and Park or Free Parking Lot or building has been constructed inspite of the ever-growing volume of cars/bikes due to the ease of lending by banks and revenue for the Traffic Dept. The homes allocated to the poor and homeless are taking forever to be constructed and delivered in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Manipal. And the list of what is truly required as development for the public is exhaustive

Dear Mr. Roy Castelino, although I know you very little, your name has always appeared before me on many frequent occasions, and all your hitherto efforts and contributions to our Konkany Society, especially to MANDH SOBHANN have always been noted with keen sense of appreciation. Although our Konkany Society is small, we have earned a great reputation in South Kanara thru the untiring efforts of a handful of Konkany stalwarts such as you. Our Konkany community is moving in the right direction, and there is lot more progress to witness in future days thru all the help and support of many able dignitaries, and you too are included. We all have our differences in this challenging world, and if there is any way you can share your grievances with others, and if there is any possibility for you to “mend your barriers” in any way possible, and continue your expertise to the Konkany Museum Project, please do so, as your presence will continue to be of tremendous use to our Community. Again, thank you for all your past contributions, and wishing you best of everything in all your future participations.

But as it stands today I will fall down at least a dozen times, thanks to the many potholes, just riding a cycle from my home to the closest line of shops to get my daily necessities. I hope this comment will get the desired attention to the road, which has been destroyed thanks to the overloaded sand trucks over the last one year.

Sadly, in a nation, where the PM and FM boast of industrial and financial growth, the people in India, who use the road and public buses, have to resort to demands and protests, and sometimes violence for basic amenities and good infrastructure. The Chief Minister of Karnataka is responsible, not only to revamp Bangalore, but also Mangalore and Udupi Districts, and as well as other Districts and Towns and Cities of Karnataka. The Municipality, without being told, must construct Bus Stops with lighting and seating fitted with a garbage can, and walk over footbridges for the benefit of all. People pay taxes in all forms that must be first utilized for the benefit of the people, rather than pay fat salaries to those in the government that do not come to the aid of the people.

  • From Richard Thomas on BJP National president Amit Shah inaugurates Fishermen convention at Malpe

Mr Amit Shah confirms corruption as though he has substantial proof of it! How does Mr Amit Shah confirm that the Central Government that had released funds for the benefit of the people of Karnataka have no record of it’s disbursement and accounts from the authority in Karnataka that had received such funds, and declaring it as an act of corruption implicating the Chief Minister of Karnataka? Also, Mr Yedurappa and the BJP did govern Karnataka prior to the present Congress party, and what has Mr Yedurappa to boast about any development or betterment of Karnataka or for its people. Mr Amit Shah does not convince anyone but himself in giving empty talks just because the people of Karnataka have extended courtesy to invite him – but surely not cause division amongst people of Karnataka. He should substantiate his talks on corruption to convince the people of Karnataka and not to fool the poor fishermen community of Malpe. The Central Government should also confirm what Mr Amit Shah confirmed along with the FM and PM, who are all one team.

  • From Sukumar Talpady on Anantkumar Hegde stokes new row, this time on Kannada

In my opinion , the Minister has not said any thing serious on the way of speaking Kannada by the people of different districts of Karnataka. Yes the people of Uttara Kannada, Udupi and DK , Shimoga speak Kannada clearly which are almost like Text Book Kannada. Minister should have added Kodagu, Hassan districts also in this list. Mysuru is also eligible for this list. Barring these districts, Kannada spoken in other districts are having different slant. Kannada spoken in Belgaum and Dharwad, Haveri is affected by Marathi influence . In Bidar and Kalburgi Raichur it is affected by Urudu and Marathi. When I went to Bidar and Kalburgi , it was very difficult for me to adjust with their way of talking Kannada for one to two years. They openly said that they can not speak Kannada like the way we speak. It is Telugu influence in Bellary, Pavagada , Kolar and Chikballapur. In Begaluru it is totally different. It is mixuture of English, Telugu, and Tamil . A moment these people hear a Mangalorean speak Kannada they immediately recognise that man is from Mangaluru . Of course Tulu has influence in Mangaluru Tulu . The language spoken in Kundapura is totally different. Mangaloreans find it difficult to follow that slant. I would say the Kannada spoken in North Kanara (like Karwar, Bhatkal etc) has the influence of Konkani . So the statement of the Minister is not wrong and he has just expressed his opinion and there is no need to tender apology or any action is to be taken. Even Hindi is spoken differently in each districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Malayalam is different in Kasargod and Ernakulam districts of Kerala. So why not kannada ?

May God bless all those girls, boys, women, and men, who are motivated in keeping their city of Mangalore clean and free of dirt and disease, and devoting their time in Volunteering for a good cause. This example should follow in all Indian cities such as Mumbai that needs cleanliness. These Volunteers should be awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation and a treat in the form of a party to celebrate their efforts on behalf of the Municipality that does not carry out it’s responsibilities. The State Gov. should divert the funds collected on the Swaach Bharath Tax to fund the efforts of these Volunteers.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Global experts to attend humanitarian forum in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia, from all our decades of dedication towards the Kingdom, as always demonstrated many humanitarian involvements. Saudi Arabia has tried to unify all the Arab and Islamic groups all over the world to unify their cause for peace and stability throughout the region. Even on major issues of Oil production and pricing, Saudis have always played an important role in moderating their cause in the interest of Global neutrality and peace. Being the custodians of Holy Places, the role of the Saudis in so many areas pertaining to the cause of normalcy, has played active role in negotiating with other nations, particularly in the Middle East with a view to achieve a mutually beneficial role. We are therefore proud that Saudi Arabia has taken the initiative in promoting a Forum with a view to encourage many other nations to come up with a Humanitarian Forum with a view to share the global viewpoints and see in which way they can contribute towards the human related causes and purposes. let the Kingdom encourage so many nations to come up with new ideas that will benefit the entire population of the world so that there is more justice and peace all over the World, with a particular focus on the Middle East.

Fasting during lent and giving Up Alcohol/Meat during Lent is good. But at the same time leading a true christian life throughout is more important and pleasing God than these small sacrifices. In our community we often see, during lent people fast, stopping gossiping and at the same time tell everyone around during lent we had only vegetables and fish. Rest of the year, try your best to ruin other peoples life, gossip about others, create problems between husband/ wife /in-laws. This is the typical Mangalorean story.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Handcrafted Mumbai Designs Now in Kudla at 'Bombay Fashion Company'

The spirit of “Consumerism” is certainly spreading fast and faster all over India, specially in the “Smart Cities” where the affluence is strongly visible with rich and educated people with highly reputable positions. “Buy now and pay later” is also becoming prevalent with the facility of a Credit Card in India, and also the lavish Bank loans for all good occasions, including marriages. With the population growth added with the Economic growth, India is one of the fast developing nation where Education is thriving, hence job prospects are good and so also the buying power of the people. New fashions and new designs will continue to flourish in a country such as India where millions of people are nowadays travelling abroad and witnessing the affluence all over the world. New shopping centers and also new fashions will therefore appear more rapidly all over the towns and cities, and the young people will soon embrace the new fashions to suit with the affluent society. Consumerism is good for India so that the economic conditions will always be on the rise. Let the country move forward with more affluence and more fashionable living.

It is a waste of money in the name of heritage preservation. First of all any government building in Mangaluru employees do not know how to maintain it. It is better spend some money to train All govt employees basics rules how to maintain the working place like their own homes ….untill then do not waste tax payers money ON THE NAME HERITAGE PRESERVATION. • From drona on Why We All Should Be Proud of Mangaluru?

KMC, the best medical college in India? Which survey? Which magazine? It is in the top 10 as per India Today but not at the top. All India institute of medical sciences New Delhi is at the top, followed by CMC Vellore. Leela Palace in Mangalore? Do we have so many foreign dignitaries visiting Mangalore? I am not sure if it would be worth their while. Of course we could do with few more hotels like Ocean Pearl and Deepa Comforts. Mr D Souza, sorry to disappoint you. I am not sure I can feel so proud about Mangalore where people still exhibit uncivilized behavior and littering all over the place. I am proud of the Mangalore of the sixties and seventies or even Eighties. I can not say that I feel the same way now. One fish dish costing Rs1000/? Day light robbery in restaurants. Some thing to feel proud of? Eve teasing on one hand, moral policing on the other? Feel proud? Lousy sultry weather which makes the people pray for uninterrupted electricity. Proud? Shock laga, shock laga, shock laga. Traffic jam on MG Road especially on Saturdays? Comfortable? Unhygenic practices in restaurants. Clean city? Really? Proud again? Mangaloreans should learn to be honest first.

  • From Richard Thomas on Wetlands Gone Flatlands in Kudla? APDF celebrates 'Wetlands Day'

Surprisingly. none of those Mangalore builders or the CMC staff were invited, as they are the main cause of all Flatlands ! Unfortunately, it’s a sad cycle -Farmer with years of farming, growing rice and vegetables, wants his son to be a Doctor or Engineer, Doctor/Engineer son does not pursue farming, migrates to a migrant country, parents pass away, nothing is cultivated or grown, large property is sold by Developers, CMC eagerly passes and permits Builder to build tall buildings on plots originally consisting of one family to 30 – 50 flats, without working on statistics for amenities such as water, electricity, drainage, roads, pavements, street lighting, etc.,,and ensures Revenue flows in terms of 14.5% on Sale Deed Value of each flat and House Tax every year. They are all educated and literate people in this sad cycle of life!

It is always REVENUE for the Corporation, REVENUE for the government! And finally, all this revenue is used up to pay salaries of Staff and pay Contractors, who carry out sub-standard works on projects favoured unto them or who do not carry maintenance at all! The Sewerage, The Stormwater drainage, the pavements, the roads, the security, the overall maintenance and cleanliness must be monitored on daily basis, and maintained on a daily basis with a great acceptable standard in quality material and workmanship. Poor quality material and workmanship by Contractors and No objection by those in authority over such Contracts and Contractors, only lead to more complaints from citizens and more expenses for the Corporation and the Government, that in turn require more REVENUE, and this cycle of life has no end in INDIA! The monsoon season is one great example to see results of all the above not only in the State of Karnataka but all over India.

Thank you, Fr. Oniel, for organizing the nine day Novena in honor of St. Anthony. We had no idea that St. Anthony belonged to the thirteenth century, and we also did not know that His tongue is still preserved in Padua, Italy. We have learned something new today, although ignorance is not an excuse. St. Anthony has done so many favors for us. The inmates of St. Anthony are praying for our needs, and their prayers are heard most of the time. St. Anthony’s has always been a favorite place for us. St. Anthony has helped us on so many occasions. We were also happy to see the new Retirement complex for the retired priests of Mangalore Diocese who are comfortably placed within the St. Anthony’s compound at Jeppoo.

After watching the daily routine attacks upon the Churches in September 2008 under the Yeddyuappa administration, what kind of a new world of peace under the current administration led by Sri. Siddaramaiah? How many times the Bishops and the community leaders had to visit Yeddyurappa to release the young men who tried to defend their brothers and sisters when the street goons along with the patronage of the police went to attack them inside the Churches while they were praying? But, glad to see that Sri. Devananda Gowda took care of that problem in a hurry. There is peace and harmony under the current administration which is an open truth, and the minorities are not chocked to death every day due to the fear of attack under the current administration. Congratulations and best wishes.

Finally, the fake rhetoric of PM Modi in millions of job creation is turning like a big hoax. How many millions of college graduates, engineering graduates etc without job? If there is a peon job opening with a High School certificate as the requirement, PhDs will be applying. PM Modi had no idea, how the jobs can be created. He thought that jobs will come down from heaven as he is speaking. Also he was under a false notion that his rhetoric will attract FDI by the trillions to create jobs in India through establishing thousands of factories. FDI will not land in a nation like India with religious friction-broken law and order-red tape etc. Finally, let the graduates start selling peanuts and pakovada.

I am shocked at the pettiness of the so called graduates donning convocation robes and selling pakodas to show that they are unemployed. Why do not these protesters join the miliary or para military forces or the police or the home guards??? Surely as graduates they will qualify if there are examinations or interviews? Or will it be found that they are not able to fit the bill? I would suggest that conscription is one method of putting our youngsters on a path of a career as well as discipline. a thought indeed.

Your suggestion is exactly like the million job creation on PM Modi. After spending huge amount for education anticipating a job based on that education, suggesting to them go to the army or start selling peanuts is a big paradox. You must advise the PM to double the number of the army-navy and air force, and absorb the High school graduates straight to those areas to alleviate the unemployment.

Mr Vinayraj, please do not get angry. I had requested You to repair the Foot Path from St.Aloysius Tech.School to PVS Circle. It is Your Ward, and You should have taken care of it. I spoke to you many times regarding this and more than year passed. This evening a 4 year Child would have lost her Innocent Life in front of Royal Chamber Building by falling into Gutter. God saved Her. About this shaking Concrete Slab,I even spoke to Mayor. She promised to take care but year passed. The above incident happened in front of Me and Mr.Hegde who is a Notary Lawyer, who has office inside Royal Chamber. According to You, there is “No Money”. But there is 65 Lakhs for Interlocks near Light House where no one could have died except Votes lost. Now there are 90 Lakhs for Clock Tower. There were Lakhs for Kid’s Train at Park and so on. But there is no money to save innocent People’s Life and little Children’s life from falling and dying on unsafe footpaths. Politicians have no time for Good Humane Actions, but got lot of time for Criticizing Speeches and Accusations pin pointing opposition. Again I request you to take care of that foot path before I contact Media in this matter. Thanks to You.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangalore Diocese to Hold DIAFERENCE - 2K18 on Feb 11

Youth involvement in kind of Diocesan activities should be encouraged at all levels thru each and every parish. The Priests as well as the Nuns should meet the youth, both men and women, and get them involved in as many activities and make them volunteer in as many occasions as possible. The youth of today need something more attractive to make them actively participate in various Church activities where the youth should be able to produce result thru their own initiatives. Seasonal Youth Retreats are also part of attraction where the young men and women are made to seclude themselves and venerate together with a purpose of grouping their ideas that will benefit the Diocese. The Youth also should be provided with some social interactions, including sports, picnics, choir practices, fund raising activities, church garden services, aftter Sunday Church coffee and snacks for parishnors, and many other services that make the youth earn the limelight of the occasions. We must all appreciate the fact that the time has changed, and the youth of today desire much greater things than the good old days. Let the Youth perform the best they have, and let them be recognized by the Diocese officially and the publicity reach every household so that the youth realize that their efforts are being recognized and rewarded.

  • From R P Rodrigues on Congress involved in Creating fake Voter IDs - BJP

Dear DFS, Again u r showing your ignorance on this matter. 1. Pls refer election commission website. There is a seperate format given by election commission for the enrollment of students who are staying in PGs, hostels etc. Voting is a Citizen Right, and therefore anyone who is staying in a new place for more than six months is eligible to obtain the voter ID there. 2. Among Kerala students studying in mangalore, most of them don’t have voter ID and since they are staying here in mangalore, as per law, they are eligible to get voter ID here. BJP workers does not have any authority to enter an election office and to abuse any government officer, on duty. This is a criminal offense and if the concerned government officer gives a police complaint against such BJP boys, they will be arrested immediately and taking bail also not so easy. Seperate IPC sections are available for those disturb the duties of government officials. 3. Few of the BJP boys have taken the photos of voter applications submitted by the aspirants and circulated in Facebook etc. This is again a criminal activity, where FIR may be lodged for attempting to distroy government documents. This is a major punishable offense. One can obtain the copies of such documents only through RTI. 4. It is the duty of the election commission to verify the genuinity of the application and it is not the duty of BJP boys to verify. If BJP boys have got some objections, they can write to proper authorities. Goonda culture of BJP boys is against the fundamental right of citizens . Students are also citizens. BJP boys should upgrade their knowledge.

The press meet shows the lack of knowledge of BJP leaders on electoral enrollment matters. 1. It is the right of the citizen including any student to enroll himself/herself if he is residing in the place of education. Election commission has issued a separate format for the same. 2. It is wrong on BJP part to put allegations saying that Lobo has won using fake votes. During last election, BJP has lost in entire State and not only in Karnataka. Good Article Mr Alfie and best of happiness to all the Dog Owners. Feed a Dog once and the Dog will remember You until its’ death. And will cry on Caretakers death. Feed a Human many times to the best, but that Person will forget You once if You say NO. Dog will look at Your eyes, your face, kiss your hands and feet and hug you with very much Love. The person you fed will not look at your face in appreciation for what You have done. Forget about Appreciation or Hug. The person that You have loved will look at Your wallet if there is more left so to drain You Out. A Dog will guard Your House and will cry if you are gone for a long time while thinking of you. Your loving Security Person or loving House Servant will Rob Your Wealth in your absence and will enjoy. Your Absence as longer You go away. And maybe praying that you will never come back so they can empty the house. SO LOVE A DOG, instead of Human because I have experienced in my life the above story.

  • From Richard Thomas on Shoot at those who attack you, top cop tells his men

All Police in India – men or women – must be issued with an automatic S&W hand gun, a baton, a radio, a whistle, and handcuffs and must move only in pairs by high powered specially built cars, Gone are the days when one could control a rowdie or a gangster or a crowd with a stick. Besides, look at any photograph in the media, and you will find most policemen with potbellies with a few exception of those going to the gym and maintaining a good physique. All policemen and policemen must be made to go to the gym and to eat well. The job demands exceptional physique and agility and good senses, When our politicians in power travel abroad – they want the Japanese high speed trains and other high tech things they encounter abroad, why not the police gear – when our PM went so many times to the USA surely he must have seen the policemen and policemen and their gear, India is the largest importer of arms and ammunition in the world and spends most money on military and naval affairs, but hardly anything on the police armament – imagine 2018 and policeman still carrying a single shot rifle when gangsters carry a AK-47 and foreign made hand guns.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Workshop on ISO 9000 and 14000 Standards at Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology

We wish to complement Alva’s Institute of Engineering for initiating the support for ISO 9000 and 14000 for purpose of controlling all the Standards and Specifications and streamline various manufacturing processes that will elevate the quality controls all over India. Standards and Specifications enable Companies to maintain certain disciplinary obligations in manufacturing and processing all over India thereby earning the customer confidence. Whether it is manufacture of food products, health products or any other machinery the established standards and specifications will encourage the Government to maintain certain disciplines and make the world of consumers to appreciate the quality consciousness in India. This is good for the producers as well as consumers. Obviously, there are certain premiums attached in maintaining those standards as well as procedures, but ultimately the customer confidence is enhanced and the Government will provide various tax subsidies or incentives for the manufacturers in producing a quality product for greater demand all over the world. We have observed so much of progress in every segment of manufacture in India. We have always enjoyed the price advantage on so many products as compared to so many other countries. All that we need is a control over our standards and specifications and build an International confidence over all our manufacturing processes and enjoy continuity of global demands over Indian products as well as services.

  • From Richard Thomas on Illegal Encroached Parking Spaces will be Demolished - Mayor Kavitha

Illegal Roadside food stalls, and vendors of all kinds of articles of household by locals and now as well by people from other states have sprung up so rapidly all over Karnataka, it looks like a free space for all who intend to make an honest and decent living, and the others, who do not think so, indulge in criminal activities to make a quick buck! So what is really wrong in the above two situations? Obviously, the two authorities who are appointed and put in authority are not performing their jobs. So whatever Mayor Sanil might get up today and state will not dent or make a difference, UNLESS, the two authorities go all the way an stay alive all year round and arrest and penalize heavily those in defiance of the law against pavement vending and against ATM robbing, Chain snatching, burglary, and even murder. TO SEE THE CHANGE, THE AUTHORITIES MUST WAKE UP AND STOP THIS NUISANCE ALTOGETHER.

Widening and concretizing roads is the main agenda in the city development . the widened roads after acquiring private properties and concertised are now being used as parking space or as extended street vendors property . what a waste of funds and such an annoying thing . classic examples father muller hospital road, baliga store bejai to ksrtc road, konchady derebail near samrat wines ,st Agnes near vas bakery,Milagres church road ,Infosys road via kottara etc.nobody will bother .wide roads have the same carriageway width as before due to this parking on the roads and also wider roads will cause more accidents due to over speeding for example bondel church road airport road .happy widening and concreting

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Shiradi Ghat Closing from Jan 20 will be a Nightmare for Motorists/Commuters

Shiradi Ghata will always remain as an important link between Mangalore and Bangalore, and the traffic will continue to rise every day due to the commercial, economical, as well as various other daily reasons for the people to commute and carry on with their daily life. Shiradi Ghats is an important means of transportation with a nice scenic drive that will motivate the tourists to travel by road as opposed to air travel as well as train travel. Shirradi Ghats has taught road contractors lots of good reasons to change their thought process as to how to build roads that will last longer with no pot holes. Regular maintenance of all roads is an essential factor because of the increased traffic. Our monsoon seasons, our ever growing traffic, and our violation of the load factor are some of the main reasons where we have to find better solutions to our problems. Hopefully our Government as well as our Road contractors have learned many good reasons to try once again to build better and lasting roads so as to meet with our growing traffic. Each and everyone of us have a reason to plead with the Government to select better road contactors in building better roads that will last longer than before. Our roads need regular maintenance. Our roads need timely repairs. Our people deserve better roads for safe and comfortable travel back and forth. We all have to maintain patience and tolerance. Our road contractors also need our understanding, Let us give them sufficient time so that the Shiradi Ghats will remain to be an important route of road travel between Mangalore and Bangalore.

Agreed. Government should concentrate on good governance. Government should have no business funding any religious activity. Those religious groups who rob tax payers money to further their religious businesses have no right complaining about the break down of law and order when the fire reaches their door-step. They have no right then complaining about “SECULARISM” &c.! Government’s business is to provide good infrastructure, maintain law & order, control crimes, provide undelayed justice, regulate and monitor conformance with the laws, social security &c , so that all citizens(irrespective of their organisational leanings in their private and personal life) can live with liberty, freedom and equality.

Street vending is fine but rules need to be formed for safety of all on highways as well as roadways. They might be selling quality items but for less but food items need to be properly covered. They cannot operate close to the highways and certain distance need to be maintained. They need to be allowed only where area beyond the highway is wide enough. They too need to pay taxes but might be slightly less but with receipt. Even roaster & hen vendor need to pay taxes. Every street vendor has to pay taxes whether rich or poor.

There was not even an acknowledgement to even one of them. On what basis do you expect people to vote you back to power. Healthcare in government hospitals is pathetic. You did nothing about it and went on to start Indira Canteens which were hastily inaugurated to be closed immediately for various reasons. How many of your Indira Canteens are functioning. You have got your priorities wrong. I would have appreciated if you had started mohalla clinics instead of these canteens with the tax payers money. True. But these judges are also human and react when wronged. I am not sure what was their real grouse in any case. Were they felt discriminated? Did they feel humiliated? Or belittled subtly? Any case which goes to the supreme court is very important. A doctor can not say that the case is too easy for his competence. Sahyadri is ideally located alongside the river front, and visitors will always find it convenient to travel thru a scenic drive surrounded by vast lush green environment and also farmland. Sahyadri also has a wonderful faculty with a ‘forward looking’ attitude, and their focus towards the advancement of students will lead the Institution to rise to greater heights in the years to come. We have had the privilege of meeting some of the bright students of Sahyadri when they visited the U.S.A. for participating in the Drone competitions, and we felt that not only the Institution but also the students will enjoy a mutual beneficial goal for a long way to come.

  • From A. S. Mathew on Amit Shah has Criminal Background, He should be Banned in Karnataka - Ivan D'Souza

Hindus of India who are believers in the freedom of religion and looking at the minorities as part of the family are leading the vast number of all the democratic political parties of India except a few in the north eastern and southern side. The RSS rulers who took the exclusive title as the custodians of Hinduism will be learning a big lesson of life. The great religion called ” Hinduism” is a way of life embracing many noble teachings of other religions, and with high tolerance. Anything went wrong with Hindu religion since independence under the former Governments? Under the former Governments of India, Hindus and the rest of the religious minorities lived in peace as good neighbors; now the north Indian virus of division and friction has fully blackmailed Hinduism. Amith Shaw, is he an Hindu or of Jain faith? Why he is acting like the Pope of Hindus? Quite surprising paradox indeed ! When BJP took control of Karnataka in 2008, how many attacks upon the minority Christian community in the month of September alone? Why, there is no attacks like that since the Congress Party took control of Karnataka which is led by the Hindu majority in the party? Are they different than the Hindus of the RSS? Yes, history proves that. The Hindus, being the majority of India have greater responsibility to keep India in peace and order instead of brainwashed by the Gujarathi Imperialists to take over India as their autocratic play ground. PM Modi’s big economic promises are now fully turned as pure jokes; the nation is plunging deeply into an economic slow down. Along with that crisis, there is no peace in the nation but friction and disorder. So, help us GOD to have peace and prosperity upon India again. Once the BJP leadership was totally opposed to FDI; now begging to the foreign nations to invest in India. Where are the smart cities-river connection-millions of jobs-toilets-bathrooms-black money share of Rs. 15 lakh/person etc to give a paradise life for the 400 million people of India living with $ 1.25/day or less income. 1.7 million people of India are homeless, yet millions of people are without a cent in their own name. How they can have adhar card? Without adhar card, they are like the ants of India. What a welfare acha din rule of India?

The “Five Day Conclave” at the Sahyadri College under the able leadership of Dr. Manjunath Bhandari must have been the headlines not only for Mangalore but for the entire region. “Coclave” is a “Big Picture Word” in any imagination where experts from different disciplines and backgrounds must have shared their expertize and knowledge for the benefit of not only the students but also many faculty members and the public genius to share their ideas and talents for the betterment of tomorrow’s Technology, Science and Management. All of them are woven together with the knowledge and experience of so many who were kind enough to devote their precious time and talent for the progress of India as a whole. With the imminent presence of so many Nobel laureates, the sharing of ideas on the innovative thoughts for tomorrow’s young men and women must have been the highlight of Sahyadri Institute who are striving to give the very best to their students who will be the champions of India’s promising future. The beautifully located river-side complex of Sahyadri must have been a scenic location for hundreds of wise men and women to gather together for five precious days and share their valuable ideas for the betterment of not only Mangalore but for India as a whole. What a terrible joke of playing with human life through prescribing highly toxic drugs in overdose without having any knowledge about the dangerous aftermath of drug prescription? Recently ratified law that the Homepoathic and Ayurvedic Doctors can prescribe Allopathic medicine is a very dangerous licence to play with the fire.

  • From Richard Thomas on Hello! SP Nimbargi Speaking: Receives Good Response in First Phone-In Programme

The new SP of Udupi or the Police Dept. alone can never solve any problems. Every nature of complaint has an authority that is lax such as the Municipality, the Traffic or Transport Dept., the Ministry of Public Works, etc. Many SP’s have come and been transferred for reasons best known to the Police authority – but problems need only to be contained by conducting a good study and implementing good urgent measures and not relying on State funds or funds from the Center – as these agencies sleep over most civilian necessities and wake up when elections are nearing. For example, Crime can never be stopped but can be contained by observance and detection and constant police presence. Likewise parking on roads and bi-lanes can be contained by constructing Parking buildings, Dirt and Filth can be contained by providing garbage bins in every public place and on main roads, road accidents and deaths can be contained by putting up more and large reflective and well lit directional and instructive sign boards, road signs, and constructing walk-over pededistrian bridges near schools, hospitals, cinemas, malls, and bus stations.

  • From Richard Thomas on Measures Taken to Prevent Water Shortage, Marriage Halls Issued Notice to Obtain Trade License - Mayor

Shortage of water is directly related to the number of new buildings that have been constructed in Mangalore and Udupi districts. Where one owner lived with max. 6 person family, when this house and plot is sold to a developer, the builder then constructs a residential building of 5 to 25 stories with 30 to 150 apartments which when multiplied by a satellite family of 4 would amount to 120 people to 600 people utilizing water! Why can’t the authorities get this simple math and stop new construction altogether to contain water shortage and to maintain water resources well. Marriage Halls do not consume a lot of water since food is served either on banana leaves or on thermocol or plastic disposable plates.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Measures Taken to Prevent Water Shortage, Marriage Halls Issued Notice to Obtain Trade License - Mayor

Our beloved Mayor is hundred percent correct in emphasizing the water conservation in the City of Mangalore since water will always remain to be a precious commodity throughout India. When the population is growing every corner of the towns and cities, all over India, with the uncertainty of rain each year, water level in our lakes, dams and rivers will pose a concern all the time. We still remember vividly the shortage of water even during our school days, and we also remember our prayers in our churches, temples and mosques for timely rain, year after year. Conservation of water is the key concern to our City and many other cities in India. Every kind of measure introduced by our Mayor for conservation of water should therefore be supported by each and everyone of us. This is the best way to help our people in their need for continuous flow of water and side by side also maintain our agricultural needs. Thank you, dear Mayor, for your timely thoughts and concerns.

This state of affair is pure negligence of the authority for this issue, the Mangalore Municipality, Tax money being wasted! What would one find on a vacant well paved plot if not stray dogs and stray human beings! If Street Vendors are not interested to vend in a facility especially thought of and created and constructed and allotted to them, then the Municipality should make this place into a Pay & Park Car Parking or a Bus Station for Mumbai/Mangalore, Mangalore/Bangalore and other outstation Private Bus Operators, or alternatively a Bus Station for Udupi/Kundapur-Mangalore Bus operators. There are many ways to best utlize and recover the expenses – but circumstances tell that the Municipality is not doing it’s job. The Street Vendors must be charged with the law against vending on pavements and penalized/imprisoned – the tough must get going!

This is the most significant Day in the Catholic calendar of Mangalore where tens of thousands of Catholics, both young and old, gather together and lead the religious procession with the accompaniment of the Holy Sacrament from Milagres Church to Rozario Church. We wish Mangalore had much broader and different roads where we could divert the main street traffic to other roads and devote the entire road for the Catholic procession, but realizing the traffic congestion and the road situtions, we have no choice by carry on the procession amidst the busy traffic. We have had few occasions in the past where we were in Mangalore to take part in the religious procession, and we were truly impressed with he way the entire program is conducted, and the Holy Sacrament moves from Milagres to Rozario church with the choir, with the prayer and with all the religious displays that gives a vivid indication to the rest of the faiths to appreciate the beauty of secularism in India. Thank you to all the Organizers of the Diocese, especially the Bishop, for conducting the entire outdoor program so well, and may God grant us continued peace and harmony to Mangalore today and always.

Rumor was rife that 2 Crore Rs had changed hands for each permission. Subsequently it was Gundu Rao who permitted at Tumkur Kolar and Raichoor. Rama Krishna Hedge permitted Dharmasteal College at Hubli and Bagalkot med college. Remote corners like Chitra drugs Shimoga also got colleges. It became a dreaded malady. Siddu would have promised got med colleges. Obviously they have no money. Besides do we need so many colleges? PS: AL Ameen at Bijapur was permitted during Rama Krishna Hegde’s time. • From Richard Thomas on Madhwarj’s Varahi Water Project to Udupi is a Major Blunder - Raghupathi Bhat

Politics and different parties does not leave room for love and unity. Especially in Karnataka, when all the Politicians claim to be chaste Hindu and faithful sons of the soil of the State of Karnataka. This does not benefit the people of Karnataka when there is so much of animosity. distrust and hate between these so called sons of the soil! It would serve the people of Karnataka better, if all the people in authority and those ”FORMER” not in authority politicians, would live in peace and harmony, and solve the needs of the people of Karnataka amicably. It’s a known fact in India in general, where politicians will mouth big talks of projects and sanctions when in reality nothing materializes. And even if a project is undertaken, the cost is shown two to three times than what was tendered, and then there always arises the case of scandals. People who favour politicians and their parties and their rallies and schemes must understand that in general, only the one politician stands to gain and whereas the ninety-nine citizens are still in the muck! Indians need to change the mind set towards the type of politics and patriotism being meted out today as there is simply no change or growth in any form or shape,

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on St Aloysius College to bring Back Reminiscence of 1st World War at Seminar

We wish to complement Fr. Praveen Martis, SJ for initiating the Two Day Symposium shortly at St. Aloysius College commemorating the World War I and World War II that has virtually devastated the entire world with loss of more than sixty million precious lives plus hundreds of billions of dollars of property loss all over the world. Although both the World Wars began in Europe, the United States as a Pioneer of “Global Peace and Stability” inherited a major burden of both the Wars and suffered a great deal economically, politically, socially and even psychologically. Before the World War I the Americans became actively involved in the Industrial Era under the leadership of President Theodore Roosovelt. Before World War I also came the Balfour Declaration whereby the Americans and the British came into a consensus to provide the Jews of the world their legitimate place for survival and growth, and it took another forty years for the British to give a mandate for creation of a new State called Israel under the leadership of David Bengurion. In between the World War I and World War II America also suffered a major depression in 1929 and President Franklin D Roosuvelt was obliged to maintain his Presidency for the third term. It was amazing to witness the kind of unique role that India as the major British colony played under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and many other freedom fighters who remained silently observant of all the destruction and devastation that came upon the world war that ended with Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor followed by the Americans dropping the Bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The final tragedy was the German Holocast. Unfortunately, The 2 major World Wars did not bring any tangible results. Then came the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, The Desert Storm War, the Gulf War, the Iran-Iraq War, and finally the Invasion of Iraq that ended the life of Saddam Hussein. Many other mini wars here and there have also taken place taking a massive toll on people and property causing communal disturbances and ethnic unrests. We wish St. Aloysius College best of success in the above Symposium that will bring tons of additional knowledge to the young and promising students. Thank you, Fr. Praveen for your kind initiatives.

  • From Mario on Congress Leader Confronts Cop during Routine Drunk Driving Check

Puttaram is a very honest responsible traffic policeman. I remember how he stopped his bike one day to help an old lady cross the road in bejai although he was off duty. Again another instance was he helped children cross from school although he was stationed at another point. Higher ups must strict action on the said politicians and alsoban tinted cars. These tinted cars have immoral activities going on and some police personnel are aware but don’t stop these cars since they belong to bigwigs.

Familiar story repeated periodically. Obviously we do not know the side of his wife. Also we do not know what was his relationship with her. Social workers can help him to get back to society. He may still be able to drive vehicles and support himself. Is he not from Dharma stala.? Dharmadhikari may be able to give him a job.

  • From Richard Thomas on Immoral Policing at Manasa Water Park, Hindu Activists trash Students

All Public Parks and other Tourist Places, Bus Stations, Train Stations, Markets, Malls, Supermarkets, must have tight security in place at all times, just like how it is at the airports, to detect and root out all evil, as security of the general public is more important than of the police giving security to ONE person of political importance but of no significance to the general public.

No one has the right to judge any one and as well assault, and this is definitely not Hindu doctrine. No Faith teaches to hate and assault others. This act is pure radicalism and an abuse of Faith. Those that indulge in assuming authority without having any knowledge of their rights and the rights of others, must be taught so behind bars, so that in future, they will not indulge in such uncivilised acts of assault,

God bless Mr Puttaram, the traffic Police Officer, for keeping his cool inspite of being abused and roughed up by Mr Amruth Kadri. If he too would have to retaliate, what difference would it make between the good and the bad! No Indian citizen, in authority or a member of any party, is above the law – everyone is same and with equal rights. Mr Kadri should apologize to Mr Puttaram for his drunken state and rude behaviour. Just because one is a member of the Congress Party does not give the right to abuse and manhandle anyone, leave alone a Traffic Policeman on duty. The Traffic Dept. should take care of this matter in a right manner so that justice prevails and appropriate punishment is given as per law.

  • From Original R.Pai on Mangalureans Welcome New Year 2018 with Prayers and Revelry

Awww…the fire crackers are so beautiful during new year celebrations. These are special ‘secular’ fire crackers who will never contribute to pollution, disturb elderly people or patients at hospitals. Only those backward, hindu firecrackers used during Deepavali celebration should be banned. Great going.

  • From Nazeer Ahmed, Ullal on Dr Padmanabh Kamath-a Cardiologist turns Good Samaritan by Donating Wheel-Chairs

Good Samaritans in the field of Medicine (like Doctors) are hard to find. Decades ago doctors were caring for their patients- these days many doctors are looking how to mint money than care for their patients. I really appreciate the good contribution done by Dr Kamath- and also spreading the message of helping others in needs. Also thank the author and Mangalorean.com for the excellent article.
