The old bus shelter was demolished on MCC property-so the new bus shelter should be built as per MCC direction at a more convenient place, rather than the present location, which is not a appropriate spot. Good research by the author-thanks mangalorean.com for highlighting this issue.

Whatever may be the compulsions of Fr. Gomes today. He should realize that if an incident, similar to Kavya had happened in any Christian institution all the people who are sitting on the stage today would have sat with Kavya’s parents. Even the MP from Mangalore and Udipi would have been on stage. And Fr. Gomes would have sat alone licking his wounds. Today we see the MP from Mangalore and Udipi are missing in this meeting. But two weeks back when renaming of St. Aloysius college road controversy arose all these people( A-z except may be Gomes and Kunhi) were on the stage talking against the institution. Even the MP was vociferous. Whatever may be the case of Dr. Mohan Alva or of Kavya let the law take its turn and let us wait and see what happens to the investigation. Putting pressure will only result in hiding behind the truth. As Dr. Mohan Alva has right for justice so be Kavya’s parents

  • From Tyron Lewis on Restrain from Character Assassination of Dr Mohan Alva, Let Truth Prevail - Fr Gomes

I totally disagree with Mr. Allen Pereira. Have you really gone in deep into this matter? Just do not comment because many associations are against Alva’s. Try to know what exactly is the truth. In this case, after all kind of investigations like postmortem and CCTV footage its very much clear its a Suicide case on 31st July the postmortem report clearly says its a SUICIDE, but still why other associations are making rally’s against ALVA’s ? Can you give me one proper evidence which shows Kavya’s is a murder? All comments passed by the protesting associations are baseless, does not have any wait-age. The people who are shouting “Justice for Kavya” do not have a single proper evidence to prove its a murder. If you have little bit of sense you can judge the truth. Few people, media and associations are just playing with the sentiments of a Mother who is in deep sorrow. Hear its not the question of rich and poor here its the question of Truth.

  • From Allen C A Pereira on Restrain from Character Assassination of Dr Mohan Alva, Let Truth Prevail - Fr Gomes

It was inappropriate on the part of Fr Gomes to say what he has said in the rally. Today all that society is asking for from all right thinking citizens, irrespective of caste and creed, not to pass judgements that late Kum. Kavya Poojary has committed suicide or otherwise when the Investigations are incomplete. Just as Sri/Dr Mohan Alva is conscious of his reputation, even a dead person like Kavya and her family is entitled to her reputation and fair ,transparent and judicious investigation and reporting about the facts of her death. Such rallies are not the answer to the adverse publicity but a competent court should have been approached to restrain social and print/electronic media from making any allegations or insinuations against either Dr Alva or Late Kavya Poojary. It should not appear that the attempt is to intimidate the police/investigators ALLEN C A PEREIRA Mangaluru

I am one of the commuters who used to use the bus shelter near St Agnes- but for a year there had been no bus shelter since it was broken down to accommodate a entrance gate for the college- a few lakhs spent I suppose. Now if the college is responsible to replace the old demolished bus shelter with a new one-it has to be like the original. The present bus shelter is much worst than my dog shelter, which is bigger and better? I will rather wait for the bus in the open air than use this ugly new bus shelter- what a shame that someone would come up with such a project.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Supporting the Artisans! Roshini Nilaya hosts 'Craft of India' Exhibition

“Crafts of India” is a favorite topic that has been actively promoted by the Sociology and Economics students of Roshni Nilaya and the Forum that you promoted with the help of Mangalorean is extremely praiseworthy. We did not see Sr. Sophy or Sr. Jacintha in the picture, and perhaps they are out of station and could not be present for the auspicious occasion that was well attended by so many distinguished audience. “Crafts of India” should be given enough prominence and important in every corner of India because India has the talent, India has the people, and India has the willingness to be creative in every segment of the Art and Industry that will keep hundreds of millions of people occupied thru the God given hands and minds. We may have about 1300 million people with 1300 million brains in India, but let’s not forget we have about 2600 million eyes and also 2600 million hands and legs that can be well utilized for various genuine purposes all over India. Each and everybody in India can make a difference in today’s world where intellectual and capable individuals can make a great difference in this world, specially in India where cultures thrive with different languages and different faiths too. Each one has something special to offer. Each one’s specialty can make a difference in this world, specially in India. With our capable minds and hearts in India we can beautify the mountains as well as the valleys by weaving the fabric of our knowledge, our willingness and our abilities and spread far and beyond the mountains and valleys and make India an exemplary land to boast our talents that will help not only the people of India, but also the rest of the world that is watching us with keen eyes and keen hearts. We are highly admired for our persistence of every kind, and we are highly respected for what we are and who we are today after 71 years of our Independence. Thank you, “Roshni Nilaya” for all your entrepreneurship and capability that you are cautiously interjecting with Sociology and Economics and making the joint Forum as a token of your intellectual capacity for the betterment of your students. We are proud of you because we are your neighbors and well-wishers, and most importantly we are proud Indians.

A big thumbs up to Alfie & team Mangalorean for the trouble taken .This is the role of the 4th estate. We come across very little investigative journalism in Mangalore otherwise. Of course, investigative journalism must be differentiated from “accusatory” journalism! Lesson to be learnt is that: e-toilets are not meant for our present conditions . They are OK for completely concretized cities like in Japan etc. from the look of the e-toilet, I for one wouldn’t like to enter that cubicle. The design of the e-toilet should have incorporated a sort of jet cleaning using disinfectant solution after each use,so that the floor and other ancillaries could be cleaned and disinfected. The public toilet at State bank express bus stand is maintained relatively clean. If I have to provide examples of well maintained public toilets then the one at Moodbidri bus stand and another one opposite Premier Harware at Moodbidri are 2 such. Even the public toilet inside Moodbidri court complex is dirtier than the above 2 public toilets. The public toilet inside the KSRTC bus station is also maintained quite well. In all the above cases I have only referred to the urinals for men.

This is really an uplifting article and thanks for posting. This is exactly the responsibility of parents, to provide guidance or know how on how to thrive when you are at a low point in life. In general, all parents want the best for their children. Its easy for anyone with means to provide better life. But we as parents forget to teach them the respect and responsibility that comes with access to better life. I commend his parents to do this – provide real life experience.

Andrew Carnegie who was a billionaires, the steel king gave away everything for the humanity was not born rich but poor, he said ” suffering in the younger days is a blessing in disguise”. If we need to appreciate the blessings of life, we need to suffer some suffering in life. In my college days, the local bus was sardine packed to reach the college. Even having a bicycle was a big luck. I do remember a person of my age in another college, having his own Fiat car since his father was working abroad and gave the son all the pleasures of life. This fellow got two other friends, started drinking and enjoying all the pleasures, visited a local foreign liquor shop often which was behind my dad’s business. He didn’t finish his college. His life was destroyed due to the over abundance of material things. When we give too much for our children for their pleasures of life, we are indeed destroying their lives. Some of the rich people will send their children only to the public schools, so that their children can understand how the ordinary students are living in mere existence.

“There is no better education than experience”. Though not exactly duplicating this method of practical training, it is good for the parents to teach their children, the reality of suffering and hard work for survival. When the rich people pour out their hard earned wealth to the children for their pleasures of life, the best of everything to beat the rest, they are indeed spoiling the children greatly.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on World Environment Day & Dist. Environment Awards Ceremony hosted by KSPCB

Congratulations to all those, young and old, men and women, Government dignitaries and the public at large for commemorating the Environment Day with so much of focus on the past, as well as the present and the future. India has a population today that covers almost one-sixth of the planet earth. Our population is ever-growing with need for more housing, more power, more utilities, and most importantly more food to feed everybody. By another ten years or so, our population will exceed with that of China, and we shall then be comprising the one-fifth of the world population. We cannot fathom that every fifth person by the year 2030 will be an India on this earth. Each and everyone of us therefore have a group responsibility to preserve our environment with utmost care. We have to do our very best to adapt ourselves with the global environment, and not the other way around. We have to chisel out our daily needs with a sense of conservativeness and save our environment with as much less pollution as possible. Each and everyone of us have to create favorable conditions so as to carve an inherent force within ourselves in order to shape the environment that surrounds us in our daily life. We are a fabric of our own making, and therefore we have to weave our own thoughts and ideas so as to protect our beloved environment with as much caution and care. Our Industrial growth, our growing lifestyle and our progress in lifestyle has to be molded with the global climate change. We all are equal participants in our daily survival of life, and whatever group measures that we envisage will certainly help us to safeguard our environment in whichever way possible.

“Where there is will there is a way”, is a common saying that is absolutely applicable to Suraj in his craving for accumulating various antique bikes and scooters of all types and of all ages and create a museum of his own. We see that he has a lovely garden alongside is collection place and that is an added attraction for his Museum project so that people will be enthused to visit his facility and at the same time enjoy viewing his lovely garden. India is a place, any kind of philanthropy will turn into success because the demand from the public will always be there. People have started showing interest in the antiquity of properties and assets, and we think Suraj is in the right place with the right display of his various bikes. We wish him best of success in all his efforts. Let him create a nice hand-out on all his collections with the history vividly written down so that people can read and understand, and see how they could patronize his museum and bring him monetary support as well.

I request Traffic Interceptor Vehicle along with PCR Vehicle to go around the town after 6 pm and see the number of Bikes and Cars Parked and the drivers of these Vehicles drinking inside the Bars. Take a ride from Karangalpady Market toward Central Jail and see the crowd of Vehicles in front of bar. After drink they drive home. My request to Police Commissioner to take this matter seriously and Himself should drive around town after 6 pm as good will towards Pubic along with thought of Children and see the area near Bars in town where vehicle are parked in crowd. Some fellows drink in Public sitting on the Bike along with friends. They even block the road and we cannot ask them to move as they are drunk. They may mishandle Us. Not a single Garbage Bin or Large Garbage Containers are seen installed anywhere in Udupi, and therefore people throw garbage (that is mainly packing material such as gutka pouches, chips packets, chocolate wrappers, ice-cream wrappers or boxes, etc. – all these one will find in plenty thrown in public places such as the 3 bus stand in Udupi). Then there are those houses or rentees who just keep their household garbage in plastic bags near culverts or dump them on open vacant plots, because they do not contract the services of the Contractor hired by the Municipality to collect and dispose garbage daily at a cost. The Municipality should put up large warning boards in English/Hindi/Kannada against throwing garbage or urinating on the roads and penalize those that do so, by monitoring the culprits on a random basis. Sadly the Minister In-Charge of Udupi does not walk the talk to see the real filth and dirt and lack of provisions and amenities. Check out the roads for example in this monsoon season – full of potholes – Manipal is the worst – hope he has noticed and will generate some immediate action on sunny days for road repairs.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Everyone must join hands to make Udupi First Garbage-free District in country - Pramod Madhwaraj

Disposal of dry and wet garbage in a scientific manner is a concept that is not familiar to most of the world, and therefore Udipi District need be complemented for their researchful concept of getting rid of the garbage and keep the environment clean and tidy. Regardless of our living pattern in India, the accumulation of daily garbage and the eventual collection by the Municipality is a process that is traditional and will always entail so many other problems, especially the eventual disposal of the garbage by burying under-ground or disposal thru insinuators. Collection, treatment and disposal of garbage is an expensive process, and it will therefore be interesting to learn the scientific methods of disposing the garbage in Udipi that could be very useful not only for the rest of the country but also the rest of the world. Disposal of millions of tons of daily garbage all over the world, specially in major metropolitan cities is a major concern, hence Udipi will be on global focus in their unique research thru scientific means.

  • From A. S. Mathew on BJP meet calls for boycott of Chinese goods

Indian export to China is around 1/6 of the Chines export to India. India’s trade balance with China is turning unfavorable every day. Basically, China is importing raw goods from India like cotton for their industrial production. China is exporting 1/3 of the consumer goods of the world demand. PM Modi delivered the hot political promises at the election eve that he will bring all the Chinese factories to India and India will be replacing China as the manufacturing hub of the world. What happened in three years? Many companies are shifting from China to the neighboring countries like Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia etc due to the their low salary level when compared with the Chinese salary level. China will be trying to buy factories in India, India will not bring factories from China. Those foreign corporations who had some intentions to invest in India is now investing in other countries due to the religious intolerance plague created by the current rulers of India. Among the list of ” easy to do business” category of the nations of the world, India is at a very grade. For the consumers, they are looking for less expensive consumer goods. Can India supply the consumers of India, made in India goods at a lower price? Boycotting of the Chinese products in a national level through the RSS party formula, let us see the outcome!

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Karnataka Sports & Cultural Club Holds Blood Donation Drive

What a nice gesture on the part of Karnataka Sports and Cultural Group in the U.A.E. to come up with the Blood Drive Donation in order to help the local community needs for positive blood. This kind of initiative will help the Karnataka Sports and Cultural Association to boost their image in the local community. Blood donation is an individual act of charity that comes from our heart and the local Health authorities will always remember Karnataka Sports and Cultural group is not merely an philanthropic organization but a helpful group of volunteers that are interested in the local community welfare. We remember, fifty years ago, in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, we had a sad incident that a Saudi lady who sustained a major accident was in desperate need of blood. Nearly 28 Saudi and Bahraini Arabs rushed to Aramco Medical Center to donate their blood and most of their blood did not match the required need. We both also rushed to Dhahran from Dammam, and fortunately our blood matched the needy victim. So the Health authorities pleaded us whether we could double our quota of blood donation, and we willingly agreed. What a nice feeling to recollect after fifty years and feel satisfied that our willingness to be of service meant a great deal in the Arab world. We have survived for fifty more years by being a small source of willing help.

I fully support each & every comments of Shri Joe D’Souza & these measures were long overdue , esp. If Mangslore has to become smart city with high quality of Living Index, falselyy reported in a sham survey in an unknown webportal.: Let me repeat the same for emphasing & reiterating the same. Dear Mr.Jagadeesha, There is no punishment for Private Bus drivers in Mangalore because RTO Officials are hand in gloves with Bus Owners mafia. Money does the talking behind the RTO Office. 1. Emergency Doors were installed on Buses. Still many do not have one. 2.There should not be seat blocking the Emergency Door, but many buses have seats. 3.Spare tires should not be inside the bus,but some do have. 4.Majority of Buses have high volume Horns even after RTO removing some. 5.Still Buses stop suddenly anywhere and everywhere to pick up passengers. 6.Many Buses do not have Brake Lights and cause severe problems when Bus stops suddenly. 7.Students Travel to School standing on the foot board and Buses overloaded causing the Bus to tilt on left side, thus it may fall when turning. 8. Now the old Game is continuing on city roads: one Bus trying to overtake front Bus by overspeeding. Do not wait till major disaster happening soon. So Traffic Law is a Joke in Mangalore due to Corruption.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on 'Namma Ajja Ajjirannu Preethisutheve'- Capitanio HS Students take Oath

School environment is the best place where the Teachers as well as the Students can always bring up topics that relate to our families, our communities and also our country. There are so many issues that bother each and everyone of us, especially as far as elderly people in many families that suffer due to lack of family support or the community support. Each and every family related issue boils down to the resources that are available to sustain all the age old related problems as well as the costs. In the Western world, aging problem is also a matter of equal concern, but fortunately, the tax payers are obliged to subscribe their share of taxes towards Senior Citizens and their welfare schemes. Countries such as America are more advanced whereby the Insurance protection also takes care of the portion of Senior Citizen welfare for the aged and also bed-ridden. In countries such as India, these schemes will come in course of time, but when such facilities will be applicable is a big question. The life span in India is also progressing very well due to better health conditions, but the Government still does not have the resources to take care of the elderly. All said and done, let the schools come up with the timely slogans and express their sentiments in favor of the elderly. Let there be greater awareness in the community thru the schools so that the Government comes up with new schemes by appealing with the rich and privileged to pay more taxes in order to provide suitable help towards the elderly. Thank you, Edith, for your kind initiative in being part of the “Voice” of the community and bring forward some seasonal themes and schemes that will help the poor and the needy.

  • From Roy on Modi Government Ruining the country by Manufacturing Lies - Dinesh Gundu Rao

Congress and the opposition parties should make people aware of the damage caused to the economy by Modi. Poor farmers have been ruined by demonetization. Now GST is destroying small businesses in India. Look at some of the GST rules. The government will not allow Input Tax Credit on GST paid to vendors if the vendors do not pay their own taxes. The issue here is the Modi is forcing the role of tax-enforcement on businesses who buy goods for resale. Tax payments are required every month. For all cash businesses, there is no problem. There is a huge problem for those who have to pay taxes on receivables, in advance, when the business owners might not even get paid. Liquidity will kill many small businesses. Modi now wants three tax filings every month plus an annual tax return making it 37 overall. Currently, businesses file service tax returns twice in a year while they pay their taxes every quarter. Now with GST, small businesses have to file 3 returns every month, month on month, year on year, with fines stipulated for non-compliance. All Hail Modi

One or two pictures shows a look a like drainage but as a general philosophy water flows from high place to low place. A road without drainage is waste of money. Why the locality people oppose such paving of roads? Blame should go to MCC and its engineers along with general public too. • From Richard Dsouza on 24-year-old Youth Dies in Car - Bike collision at Mani

May Jaffer’s soul rest in peace, and may God grant strength and solace to his parents and siblings, for such a great loss of such a young life. Mangalorean.Com has reported so many deaths related to motorcycle riders, that truly moves an expert on the mechanics and riding skills. Allow me to share a few very important and basic checks of a motorcycle, and riding skills on a motorcycle, for those readers of Mangalorean.Com who generally ride a 2-wheeler or 4-wheeler, and especially in and around Mangalore and Udupi and it’s districts. Mangalore and Udupi districts have very bad riders and drivers, narrow roads, bad road lighting, poor road markings, few traffic lights, fewer Warning Boards, fewer Sign Boards – thanks to the Mangalore and Udupi Dist. Transport Dept., that despite a huge income hardly spend anything on basic necessities for road users and parking lots. One cannot change this today and neither in the near future. The loss is never theirs! However, it’s how we react to situations and circumstances that matter most. 1. Always plan to ride or drive between 6am and 7pm – road lighting is very superficial and bad – one one hardly see the road or anything in front of you, not mentioning the all too frequent power shut downs – hazardous at night! 2. Always wear a good quality helmet – even the Pillion-rider should wear one Please don’t obey the law in simply carrying one in your left arm and wearing it only noticing police personnel at a traffic light or at specific places where they stand to guide and control the traffic or to catch those irresponsible riders. 3. Excepting the highways, all other roads are narrow and are meant only to accommodate one bus or truck – that more than often never budge and may put one (car or bike) off the road. These are the roads that take most life! 4. Always slow down to the minimum and let the bus or truck pass you safely – head on collusion happen only because of negligence and overconfidence to pass and let pass! Drunken driving too must not be misjudged – who cares! 5. Speed limits are unknown to most riders and drivers – who checks anyway! Always drive at safe speeds of 40 to 60 kmph on highways, and 20 to 30 kmph on other roads and inside the cities. There’s more caution and control in this attitude for safety of self and others using the roads. However, speeding always leads to loss of control due to the unexpected (cow squatting in the middle or side of the main road,, large potholes, unmarked speed=breakers, trucks parked at the side of the road-and the list can go on, that ends in accidents and being maimed or sure death. India is a congested country with vehicles – and is more so now – due to the lack of control of the government on banks giving loans to own one, and earning a 10% interest! Even a poor farmer has a car and a 2-wheeler these days in India! 6. Always know some basic mechanics of your scooty/motorcycle or your car. Check for functionality before you journey, the brakes, the brake lights, the turn-signal lights, the horn, and the head light. Also for coolant or water level in your radiator for car owners. 7. Abide by all the road signs, regulations, and traffic lights if any and even if not! Remember – respect Pedestrians – especially women, children, and the elderly. Give them the right and priority to cross – God will bless you for your caring attitude. 8. Always carry legal papers of ownership of vehicle and Insurance plus PUC Cert. 9. Never lend your car scooty or motorcycle to a friend or a third party – it can be used for criminal activities, that can put you in trouble with the law. 10. Use a car, scooty, or motorcycle as a means of personal and comfortable transportation instead of riding those rickety, overcrowded, badly managed public buses.

It looks like our CM has lost his head. Bangalore is a metropolitan city and there are a lot people visiting the city from North India. Why cant we include Hindi too in the signage which will help the tourists coming from North India. The purpose is to develop Bangalore or Karnataka tourist friendly. Go to any country or city in the world, you will find signage in different languages which is basically to help as many people as possible. Our CM is narrow-minded and purely playing politics !

Once I went to meet my old Jewish friend in the morning, he told me to help him to load some items to the pick up truck. Then told me to ride with him and drove a small distance and parked the truck under the bridge. He told me to wait in the truck. He got outside, hundreds of pigeons flew in from all directions and he began to feed them. He was covered with the pigeons, it was a rare show I saw in life. Then he drove around and showed me the closed warehouses he owned in the city. An old person who hoarded too much wealthy through out the life, no children, now feeling like life has been a mere waste simply for hoarding wealth. He told me ” the daily happiness I receive is through feeding the pigeons only”.

Great initiative, dear Freida. This is part of the philanthropic movement that you have embraced at an early age, and you will certainly be crowned with success. Tiger extinction is certain a matter of concern for all animal activists, particularly in India where our tiger population is steadily reducing on account of so many factors, including population explosion where lots of forest land will eventually have to be utilized for human beings. Indian Tigers are prominently known everywhere, and the species of tigers need be preserved at all costs, and under all circumstances. Therefore, your active participation will bring greater awareness to the world to preserve the tiger species wherever possible.

A beautiful line of small Singapore cherry trees with good canopy was cut down and now the area looks so barren. Definitely those trees were not posing any danger but giving good shade. Yet they were all cut, no trace of them. can anyone enlighten as to what happened and why did it happen? At this rate, how do you green Mangalore if you go on cutting the very trees after a few years planted to improve greenery. Are the Forest Department and the MCC working at cross purposes? Good work by Mayor Kavitha, in showing responsibility towards her authority. Only if you walk can one know what the pedestrians face. Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj too should walk in Udupi and know what the pedestrians face. There must be Pavements and drainage on every road and Pavements must always remain for people to walk, free of hawkers, beggars, and encroachment by shop owners. Rickshaw Parking Areas must be designated by the Traffic Dept. and Municipality, and certainly not by Rickshaw drivers at their will. Provision must be made to ensure better movement of traffic. Parking Lots and Parking Buildings must be built on Pay and Park basis all over Mangalore and Udupi. Right now, there are none – Thereafter, Parking on road side must be prohibited.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Rs 10 Crore Allocated to Upgrade Wenlock to Regional Hospital - MLA Lobo

Health related activities in an ever-growing City of Mangalore deserves the first priority in all our budgets, plans and programs. People’s health enables the progress and prosperity of the City. Whoever decided Wenlock Hoapital to be in the center of the City 170 years ago was a fine idea, but as the City has grown ten fold, the famous Wenlock Hospital, we think, should have been somewhere near Urwa or Bolar or even Bondel. This is the way the Citties have to be designed so that the central City area is solely dedicated for Business and shopping while the Health related activity is located in a cleaner and less noisier environment for ease of traffic and pollution. City zoning is of paramount importance for any emerging City in the world today. Zoning system will automatically allocate each activity separately so that as the City grows so rapidly and exponentially the health related projects will deserve cleaner and quieter environments so that people can enjoy easier mobility. This also applies to Fish Market, Meat Market and Vegetable Market that could always be moved ouside the City limits. The entire Hampankatte area requires a “face lift” whenever and wherever opportunity permits. The Nehru Maidan is in an ideal location, with the presence of the Town Hall, the Government Arts College, The Police Headquarters, The Railway Station as well as the Mall near Rosario Church and St. Anns College. All the rest can and should require new thoughts whenever time, opportunity and budget permits. “Dhanyawadh”.

Our goal should be building a bridge than dividing communities. I think St. Aloysius can take the high Road and erect a statue of Mr. Shetty on its Premises and have museum for the great pioneers of mangalore. Its easy to name a a road but up keep is difficult. …. St. Aloysius as an institution should adopt this road, build foot path, adopt the Tagore park and library and provide service to community. People will recognize their good work and the road and hearts will all belong to St. Aloysius college

Many are invited but only few will attend. Perhaps Life is easy or difficult, but no one can give visa to heaven. Though no one can judge, all white dressed can’t go to heaven. Hell has broad gate, while heaven has the narrow one. No one prefers darkness, after experiencing the light. Many have eyes but not all can have vision. After all, God is one, the creator of whole mankind. Let’s try and hope to be the salt of earth and light of the world as Lord Jesus Christ has wished us to be.

I have read about arun and totally disagree with the comments by Lallu and Devika. I do not understand why these two people minds are still under development. I agree on one point that arun is hardly able to manage his expenses and survive by Gods Grace. As Arun said his parents gave false complaints and threw him out of their house and also did cheated and robbed from him a property, are you both Lallu and Devika trying to say that such parents should be treated with dignity. Also, are you both saying that Arun’s parents action was right on thier son? If the same situation happens to you ‘God Forbid’, will you sit and write the same comments as you have mentioned about Arun. Will Lallu and Devika respect their parents if they were also thrown out of the house and robbed of their property by forgery? Lallu and Devika one advise for you both is to think before the type some nonsense and judge yourself before you perform any action. If you both are not wise enough to take decisions, please stop unwanted comments about any topics.

My sincere apologies for this ‘raakshasa’ behavior by humans towards innocent animals. Any guess on the identity of those who were transporting cows in such an inhumane way? Well, we all know the answer. I’ve lost count of these incidents of these illegal cattle transportation busted by vigilant citizens or police. Still, stenographers would never dare to touch this subject and do a detailed report on this trend. They would rather talk about ‘moral policing’ by hindu outfits. No ‘rationalist’ or ‘social worker’ would dare to come forward and condemn this behavior.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on 'Connecting People to Nature'- Decennial 'Vanamahotsav' Celebrated at Mt Carmel School

Thank you, dear Alfie, for your descriptive article whereby you have outlined tastefully the festival of “Vanamahotsava” in Mangalore in the very presence of Carmelite nuns and their premises. We always boast to our American friends how and why we celebrate each passing day in India with some recognition or the other, and the festival of “Vanamahotsova” is one of them. We plant a small tree in commemoration of the beginning of the monsoon season. The land is wet, the weather is cool and the feelings of joy are in the horizon for hundreds of millions of people who depend on timely rice crops and many other cultivations that bring also variety of fruits, vegetables and flowers too. It’s a feeling of joy to witness the nuns and the young students, and also the teachers along with few other dignitaries who join together in planting anything that suits the season so that people are aware of the need for planting more and producing more in every inch of the vacant soil that is gifted upon us. We are so far from India, yet we are conscious of the fact that a timely monsoon is essential for our mother country so that people have a good crop and sufficient food for the next year and beyond. God certainly knows to give us more millions of babies each year, and let’s not deny the fact that God also knows to take care of all of us thru our daily struggles and turmoil. May God give us continued good health and happiness with good weather and good crops with self sufficiency of food plus ability to even export.

I always believed that i should take care of my parents the way they took care of me. i have done many things to help them in time of their needs. but sadly i was taken for granted. life is complicated and not as black and white as you have written in thsi article. there is always a two side to the story. Not all parents are good, not all children are bad. After my mothers death my father started to sleep with my house maid. i still try to respect him but he has misused my trust in numerous situations and my belief on parents in shattered. This is a generation where parents are crooked too. Just becos they are old they are not helpless. with the matter of property Indian have the culture to pass on their ancestral share to their children. In such case rather than let your disappointed parents lose the property (for their extra affairs) given to them by your forefather its better to safe guard it for your future to add to it and pass it on to ur kids.

As the report points out, there were rumors and earlier reports on drugs, mobile phones and other things being supplied to inmates. This is impossible without direct involvement/approval by higher officials. Looking at total silence by our elected reps, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are also getting a nice ‘incentive’ for not looking into this issue. Good reporting and keep it up.

“They have a odd habit of urinating in sand castles and looking at your faces while you are eating” – Author Odd habit? How else dogs are supposed to behave? I’m quite disappointed by the tone of this report and most of the comments above. True dog lovers (or any animal lover) will not take this approach towards stray dogs or any other stray animals. These poor animals are entirely the creation of our own people. The so-called ‘dog owners’ silently dump the unwanted puppies in remote corners of our cities. They grow up, breed and more puppies. Our ‘dog lovers’ are not interested in rescuing puppies born to stray dogs and sending them for adoption by responsible individuals. Moreover, the uncollected garbage and food items all over the city are the main source of food for these stray dogs. Why blame them for our failure? What next? Advocate culling these poor dogs? I guess only in India ‘dog lovers’ and ‘pet owners’ can have this kind of cold attitude towards poor animals.

hi sharath & shalini i really do agree with you points. However please tell me heave you guys made any effort in helping to control the dog population in town we are the reason for this menace now. people buy the dogs n once its sick or old they leave it on streets which causes the increase in dog population every body comments about the problem but no one is ready to come forward n help… its not only the duty on animal lovers to come up with the solution even people can come up with the solution n give you suggestion rather than just complaining about the dog problem. Animal care trust is doing wonderful job on vaccinating the stray dogs in society however its not easy for them to cover up all the places in town i guess people can come forward & volunteer n help the society, coming to people saying about the dog problem in tourist places. Have you been to tannirbavi or Panambur beach early morning have you seen those places, its filled with people with people doing natures call in the beach early morning right next to the waves its so disgusting n people tel dogs are menace

Beaches are a tourist destination-which should be free of any animals- go to Goa beaches you have cows and stray dogs more than Mangalore beaches- in order to avoid all these controversies why cant the beach authorities prevent any stray animals on the beach–because beaches are visited by people who love pet animals, and also who are scared or what you call it, allergic to animals. Nothing less- nothing more. I agree with the author’s perspective on this matter.

It’s very good Article. yes, this is the need of the hour. Parents should be given Love, respect, independence, space and so on… by the children. They are the people because of whom, we are on this Earth. They have struggled every single bit for us and to brighten our life. If my mother has kept me safe in her womb, my father has kept me safe in his brain and heart. whatever I give it to my parents its not enough, I cannot say proudly that i have given something its my sole duty and responsibility to give anything and everything and anyhow is possible. I have my biological parents and adopted (Foster) parents, Out of Four people i have only my biological mother with me all the other three are dead, but i love them, everyday i remeber them, I have not seen God in my life but i feel they are the four people who are the differant forms of gods in my life. I take care of my mother as like she is queen in the house because when I was the child she has taken care of me like queen hence I don’t want to miss that chance to take care of her like Quen. Thanks god for sending those four people in my life as my goddess and god. If anything i can help/do in this mission of taking care of senior people i ll be always ready. Mangalore drivers are one of the worst behavioral drivers in India. Along with that improper construction of roads exaggerates the problems. Mr Alfie,Smart City is gradually becoming death City. Look at the road surfaces with Pot Holes and gravel spilled over road surface. Here is what happened to me. I came from Adyar Padau to Light House, along with my worker. Manoor road is a nightmare. It took me 30 minutes to reach from Neermarga to Kannur. It took almost an hour from Kannur to Garodi There was black top work near Mahaveera Circle. So it took more than 30 minutes from Garodi to Mahaveera Circle. Then came Karavali Circle and Bendoorwell Circle with Traffic Jam which took almost 30 minutes there. Then came Jyothi Circle problem. So by the time I reached Light House area,I lost almost 2 hours of my time. Imagine the cost of Petrol and I ended Up paying the worker for 2 hours wages. Smart City. I totally agree with u Lallu, Hey Arun with your written communication I can understand that u are well educated, then why you need their property? be on your own, try to stand on your own leg, show them what you can do in your life. Don’t complain about them, They are the people who strived for you when you were a kid, teenager and adolescent, how can you forget that? I am sure there is something which made some misunderstanding between you and them sort it out with them, make them genuinely believe you. They are parents and they will always forgive their children, I don’t say that you are totally wrong, and they are right, but being educated and your existence in the earth itself because of them then you can bend somewhat. Try Arun it is possible, i have seen people going through that. Finally whom you have to bend its only your own parentsssss…

I agree to it that educated children are doing this to their elderly parents. but my case is different. my parents were working abroad and have their own house and good income to take care of themselves. Here my parents are greed for wealth and do not care about the son as my sisters are well settled of in the US. I am married and in India and hardly able to manage my expenses. In spite of trying give them whatever I could, my parents gave false complaints in the police station and threw me out of their house. My father cheated and robbed from me a property which my grandmother gave me.

It’s good that your parents are good and have enough wealth till their lifetime.. that is you don’t have to take a tension anyway they can look after themselves. But article says the parents to be alert in case children may try to sign the WILL unknowingly.

  • From francis lobo on Seniors, Think Twice Before Signing WILL-You Could Be on Streets?

How many aged women had fallen prey to the paying guest accommodation syndrome. They allow students or professionals to share their house with them for support or for money and at the end of the day get duped by these people. Sometimes the elderly are made to sign papers without knowing what is the content and loose their property. There are some scrupulous builders and real estate agents who really cheat the elderly by initially helping them material wise and financially and finally take their signatures on papers and transfer or sell their property. Some people dump them in old age home and few ditch them after all the transactions are finished. Trust is the basic need for survival . Once trust is lost then everything is lost

  • From Confused Desi on Minister Pramod Madhwaraj Inaugurates Matsyotsava at Pilikula

I wholeheartedly support the project and the concept. Although this project may not be about fish farming, I have been great believer in fish farming. Fish farming must be taken up in a big way in the coastal districts. It can provide good revenue. Of course, with anything connected to farming, fish too can be affected by diseases. So, I suppose people must obtain sufficient training in how to deal with all the pros and cons of fish farming. I do not know if I would agree with the statement of the minister: “Fish is 100% pure without pesticides”. Much fish has disappeared from local steams in Mangalore due to the over-use of pesticides. The large quantities used in farming most likely to kill the fish. Fish consumes anything that is available to them including metals in water, discharged from the factories. The Minamata case is a well-known case.

The richest country of Europe, Germany has backed the Saudi Arabia-UAE-Bahrain-Egypt union in their confrontation with Qatar to teach her a lesson not to sponsor terrorism. Now, France has supported it. That is a solid signal that the Euro Union will be backing the united front of Saudi Arabia-UAE-Bahrain and Egypt. Qatar has to come to the sense that this confrontation in the long run will hurt them greatly both economically and international relationship. The U.S. is in reality acting like sitting on the fence.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Leaf Eating Insect Attacking Coconut Trees in Kudla and USA?

Coconut Trees are as important as coconuts. Without the trees we shall be deprived of the coconuts sooner or later. The Government should have constant surveillance on all these kinds of diseases that can impact our coconut crops and the coconut trees themselves might disappear sooner or later. The Research and Development on all Agriculture needs and wants requires timely surveillance and research from the Government. Whether it is Coffee Plantation or Tea Plantation; whether it is Coconut or cashews, or even mangoes, we as people depend on the Government for their constant surveillance and support. Today, India is so much advanced in the drone technology, they should send those drones all over the coconut farms and see where exists any kind of insects that can destroy our coconut trees. Drones can be sent over the house roofs even for any kind of tile cracks that can cause leaks. People have to spend some money for subsidizing these new technologies. There is no free lunch any more. People are all interested in saving money, and even hiding money, when that money should be equally spent on our basic needs of life, which involves Research and Development. Please, Mr. Government save our coconut trees, mango trees and cashew trees in addition to all the trees. The green farmland is essential for us because without agriculture we have a critical future ahead of us.

  • From Original R.Pai on Daring Mayor Raids various Massage Parlours and Skill Games Centres in city

I have no doubt that Mayor is trying to do good things for the city. I don’t question her motives. However, are these raids legal? If they don’t have the license, she should have taken legal route to take action, right? How come there were no police with her? How is this different from Bhajarang Dala or Sri Raama sene riding illegal activities? How is this different from ‘moral policing’? The hypocrisy of media and many readers is troubling. Why are local MLAs not cooperating with her? Congress is in power at State level and city level, right? Where is the ‘beautification’ MLA? Where are the pseudo-secular and pseudo-rationalists who cry ‘moral policing’? Oh well… (By the way, – Good reporting. Also, liked the video clips – I hope that you continue to expand your footprint in video channel as well)

  • From Confused Desi on Leaf Eating Insect Attacking Coconut Trees in Kudla and USA?

It is extremely sad to note the disaster for the farmers. It has been my observation that the various Government bodies meant for the agriculture sector are peopled by those from non-agricultural backgrounds, and as such have neither an interest in looking after the farmers nor any proactive approach to tackle any diseases affecting the flora and fauna. In some countries the Governments have very serious interest in protecting the agricultural sector. And they should! Because a significant problem with the food production and have serious consequences on the economy. With the problem at hand, there is a good chance the coconut oil will end up costing three times as much in the near future.

It is an open secret how the jail authorities work. When it comes to visitors to political persons convicted the rule book is thrown to the winds. Chief talks of role book and shows it to an officer. What an irony !!! As a common man i can understand the embarasment the Govt. is facing. Bot at the same time have no special treatment to the priviledged prisoners. That is good Governing.
