Dear readers, Where are these BJP women wing, when daughters being abused, raped and burned in front of their own during Godhra and Muzaffarnagar? Do they have any solution for 5,00,000 daughters being killed before they see the light? Are these ‘moral police’ ready to free those helpless daughters forced to sell flesh in brothels and give decent life marrying them as ‘Ardhangini’? Shame to these ladies. They have not even spared making politics out of rape who had lost her dignity and fail to come to terms with the society. Shame on BJP they abused daughter for politics and proudly pose ‘selfie with daughters’. Are these ladies ready to marry their sons to the abused daughter? Jai hind

Aruna, How can this be a false news when police have caught them with enough evidence? Are you attending anganawaadi along with joker? Maybe the high court has not been made aware that the road is incomplete at several stretches that include Bykampady where the traffic moves at snails pace. The quality of the road near panambur is horrible and the surathkal junction is a nightmare for motorists. If the learned judges or their reps are made to travel on this road I am sure thet will reverse the judgment.

By the way, what is your full name? By just mentioning Praveen, you complicate things – because there are countless Praveens on this globe, scattered all over. Can you tell me what is your full name and from which place you hail from? – Mr. Nelson Well, so sorry I have to reply under a diff topic. But then, our Rampa has been deluding EYT with his jokes… so much so, that your question has been buried under an avalanche! Anyway,….Well, who is ‘Praveen’? Hmmm.. Well, our Original R. Pai or Rampa (I wonder why that ORP didn’t “complicate” matters for you), THINKS that he knows me THE BEST. I mean, just take a look at his words to describe me – Joker, Aanganawadi student, aadu jeevitham, beedi jeevitham, I get ‘Bhagna Swapna’ on account of my allegedly rejected Yumreeki visa….. All the time, I wonder why our Yumreeki Rampa is venting out his OWN life’s frustrations by pushing his frustrations to my account! But then, never mind that, sir. He gets his jollies in life by doing that and hey, both India (although we had to FIGHT to be free from the Brits) and Yumreeka (although the immigrants had to ‘literally annihilate’ and/or imprison the REAL FREE inhabitants… work slaves to death…. fight amongst themselves etc) are both FREE countries! So let him vent out his frustrations? No skin off my back! My name is Praveen D’cunha and I hail from Mangalore. Anyway, that is never important. I’m just an ordinary Indian bloke who has stuck around in India (oh, for reasons BEST known to our Rampa, of course!) 🙂 Anyway, to get to the point – I would like to draw your attention to the propaganda spewed by the Chaddi’s from RSS and how they go about rewriting history – and that too for kids! So, please read the foll very carefully and revert. http://www.outlookindia.com/article/testtubes-in-hastinapur/291554 Over to you, sir.

Dear readers, A PFI reserve no rights to object the so called ‘social organisation’ RSS which banned thrice in the past and verge of getting listed in terrorist organisation on the reports of Late Hemant Karkare investigation. Its great guruji’s inspired propounder Hitler slogan ‘One nation, one state, one leader’ (Eine Nation, ein Staat , ein Marktführer) and defined their own extreme nationalism and recorded them in ‘Bunch of thoughts’.They have the same hate relationship with the Muslims and Christians as Hitler for the Jews. Just as Hitler created the awe with organisation and movement of the Nazi-youth,in the same way, they seem to awe the society with the organisation activities of Sangh on the Military pattern.Just as Hitler held that only desedendns of the ‘Aryan’ race could be citizens of Germany,in the same way the leaders of this party maintain the view that only Hindu can be citizens of Bharath. As they do not believe in caste system by birth, according to them if Muslims and Christans regard themselve Hindus, have names, accept Hindu dress and customs, they can also be include amongst Hindus. As they have already achieved two goals in this regards, now shifted their efforts on Hindu rashtra converting 2020 the entire country will be Hindu and 2030 the entire world will be Hindu. • From sHaiKH moHD rizwan on Mangaluru : It's Blany D'Souza's Terrace! No, it's a Paradise..

Dear readers, The wealthy island city of Singapore with an area of 710 square km and a population of 5 million, is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. With most parts of the island’s land utilized for urban development, the remaining 250 acres of farmland is hardly sufficient to feed the growing population. As a consequence, more than 90 percent of Singapore’s food consumption is met by imports from over 30 countries. This dependency on the external world makes the country highly vulnerable to turbulence in food supply and prices. In making this goal of a food self-reliant Singapore a reality, Entrepreneur Jack Ng, with the help of Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA), has come up with one of the world’s first commercial vertical farms. This soil based vertical farm produces one ton of vegetables every other day and is five to ten times more productive than a regular farm. So back in India the BJP ruled Maharashtra, the farmer suicide toll has already touched 66% of the 1,981 cases recorded in the entire year of 2014. The figure has also crossed the 1,296 cases recorded in the state during the 12-month span of 2013. BJP which dig out Pawar ‘model’ to curb farmer suicides by loan-waiver will not end the miseries of farmers in Maharashtra today had no ‘Charar’ argi oriented beef ban.The issue of farmer suicides in Karnataka is being politicized by BJP using ‘Raitha Chaitanya Yathre’ rather than providing solution to the state. I appreciate the Mr.Blany D’souza for green revolution in his own backyard.Modi government rather politicising the issue should learn from this individual and success of singapore. Jai Hind

http://www.ndtv.com/karnataka-news/crops-destroyed-for-rahul-gandhis-karnataka-rally-and-a-controversy-is-sown-1229268?pfrom=home-lateststories For Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Karnataka on Saturday, crops have been cleared before harvest from an area the size of roughly three football fields. A stage is being put up in farm lands near a village in Ranibennur in central Karnataka. Maize grown on four acres of land reportedly belonging to one farmer has been destroyed. Among the voices of criticism is that of noted historian Ramchandra Guha, who tweeted today: “A poor farmer in Karnataka loses valuable cropland to a stage built for Rahul Gandhi to come and go.” Many have pointed at the irony that Mr Gandhi, the Congress vice president, is to meet the families of farmers who have committed suicide after failed crop due to drought. Actor: Rahul baba failed miserably.

@ Pincode Pai is hilarious. Now he blames me for things I didn’t say!! One should wonder why he often reaches this level of delusion in response to my benign post on a positive thing that Bharatha has achieved over years!! Unsurprisingly, his behavior can be perfectly explained based on the fact that he is held hostage in a remote cell with no windows. Sanity is the first thing that flies out of those non-existing windows when you are given a single-point agenda and forced to post false things on daily basis!! Sincerely feel bad for him. @ Joker Pinto wants a proof when he provides plenty on daily basis!! Alright – I tried to read this ‘report’ and I have a huge headache now. Well, at least, I tried!! Also, what’s up with all the Hindi conversations reproduced verbatim instead of giving English translations and directing readers to videos? Simply by these two observations, the report already looks very amateurish!! Shazia Nigar, the ‘reporter’ behind this ‘investigation’ was a journalist who worked at Tehelka!! It says it all!! A huge red flag when it comes to overall credibility of this report. Can someone provide me links to any of the articles by the same author being critical of other right-wing groups or terrorism? I couldn’t find any! Smiles… The report reads like an amateurish blog with selectively edited, chosen conversations from different individuals followed by highly biased opinions by the reporters. At times, it gets very confusing with all these things thrown around in a random fashion!! This is second red flag seriously questioning the motive and credibility of this report. Third – Whenever an organization is accused of doing things, the publishers of the report should give them a chance to respond. Did these reporters approach RSS/VHP or the individuals involved in this ‘investigation’ for a formal response? I couldn’t find it in this report. It’s a good journalism practice to present all sides. Fourth- Both Gulail.com and Cobrapost claim to be fighting against injustice and corruption. However, it’s quite clear that they are fixated on only one person – Modiji. There is a lack of objectivity in their coverage – Readers can take a look at those sites. Also, it appears that they tried really hard back in 2013 to derail Modiji’s campaign. As we all know, it didn’t work. Most importantly, this ‘investigation’ has totally failed to prove what it hoped to achieve. It doesn’t debunk the fact that all these cases involved Muslim men marrying hindu women. In fact, in some cases, it admits how these muslim men were already married!! Moreover, it doesn’t address an important question I have been asking on this forum. How many non-muslim women marry Muslim men as compared to the number of muslim women marrying non-muslim men!!!

The NY times ‘leans’ on whichever side YOU SAY the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans to! Outlook is outlandish! You don’t read much of bloomberg.com or huffingtonpost. BBC is akhanda bharatha’s old master. Not a word about what happened in Charlestown or the “I can’t breathe” stuff or MUCH much more that happens EVERYDAY out there! Or the tons of smuggling that happens over their border.. drugs.. guns… God…. And BoddaNNA wanted to ‘create’ a ‘new order’ in the greater Syria (Levant)? Sadly… they ONLY helped CREATE the so-called Caliphate! Lol lol.. Loooool! And now, they are playing video games with their drones (sugam’s). Hello RampaNNA, I MUST agree that this article was TOO short. But then, there are reams and reams of names involved here. I wonder if our Original Rampanna will bother to copy-paste the names given here and then call his posts as “superior” while following his self-ಶ್ಯಾಬಾಶಿ’s with some names for me, Shariah Shaikh, Roy, AS Mathew etc. – which ACTUALLY suit him the BEST? But then, all this brotherly advice is lost on our Rampa. It is like a bouncer from Glenn McGrath sailing over some tail-enders helmet. AFter all, the tail-ender – who is say 200 times out 100 – is a bowler and can always say – “ಹೆಲೋ… ಯಾನ ಕಾಲಿ ಒರ್ಯೆ ಬೆಪ್ಪ ಬೌಲೆರ್ ಮಾರಾಯ!”. Or, will he say that is an ISI plot? Or, hey.. it could be the Somali Pirates FISHING just off the “contiguous zone”, in which area a state could continue to enforce laws regarding activities such as smuggling or illegal immigration? Or is this Edward Snowden’s LATEST trick from Russia or wherever he is – for his continued well-being? And well, as always, we can’t rule-our Kim Jong-un, can we? Sir Rampa….some soopi.. soopi… superior analysis on this, plz! And hey, don’t forget to call me some names too and follow it up with a smiley to add some space to your perennially empty posts?

  • From Roy on Udupi: Protection of Cows should be Beyond Religion and Caste - Pejwar Swamiji during ‘Go Sammelan’

from Sudipto Mondal The polarising events of those years propelled one man from the region onto the national stage – the seer of the Udupi Pejawar Mutt, Vishveshwara Theertha Swami. A disciple of the second RSS chief MS (Guruji) Golwalkar, the soft-spoken pontiff, now 84, is seen by many as the man who laid the foundation for the Sangh in Coastal Karnataka. In 1969, Theerta organised the first ever state-level conference of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Golwalkar was the chief guest at the event, which also saw the participation of many Congress leaders of the time. Four years earlier, in 1965, the then Mysore Maharaja and founder President of the VHP, Jaya Chamrajendra Wodeyar Bahadur, had organised the third national executive meeting of the outfit at his summer palace. During an interview at his Bangalore ashram on Wednesday, Theertha recalled those days fondly and said, “When he came to Udupi in 1969, Guruji praised me in front of 65,000 people for helping the Mysore Maharaja with the national executive meeting.” He said that before the 1960s, the Sangh barely had any presence in coastal Karnataka. “Cows were being slaughtered by thousands but nobody was speaking out against it. That’s when we started the VHP to take up this issue seriously.” Police records from the 1960s show that it was a period when a series of attacks were launched against Muslim cattle traders. The years of the Emergency added further heft to the VHP with many Congress and even some young Left leaders joining its ranks. This was also the period when the VHP started spreading its footprint to other regions of Karnataka such as Hubli-Dharwad, Raichur and Bagalkot. But for some, even the VHP was too soft. By the late 1970s, the Hindu Yuva Sene took on the responsibility of cow protection in the coast. This group made way for the even more militant Hindu Jagarana Vedike in the 1990s. Dear readers, No city in India can be ‘smart’ if there is no awareness of civic sense first. It can’t be called ‘smart city’ if there is no liberty to talk, right to eat what they want. The city is still rubbish if there is no0 “peace, tranquility and brotherhood”. In no sense Mangalore can be ‘Smart city’,which is already maligned its name international media with ‘pub attack’ ,’Moral police’,’cow chasers’,’Assembly porn session’ and ‘public lynching’. Unfortunately this is called intelligent peoples district which failed to elect competent leadership and curb the social menace. Jai Hind

There is no freedom of press in almost all Muslim countries and no freedom to eat any thing he wants. Can a Christian be able to buy pork in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan? – Joker Mangu Please don’t follow in the steps of your chaddi-dost called Original RampaNNA, yaar. Please do some PROPER searching (called Googling) before you put your foot in the mouth. http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2014/01/06/22203369-fine-french-food-in-the-heart-of-pakistan-just-no-pakistanis-allowed http://www.meat1.com/pork-meat-suppliers/indonesia.html http://www.expatwoman.com/oman/monthly__Pork_6579.aspx

Probably with the exception of Saudi, pork is available in almost every GCC country. Forget about alcohol. The POINT is dear Mangu, EVEN though both Pork and C2H5oH is banned in their religion, they do NOT impose restrictions on others! Contrast that with the maha-jokers in India. EVEN possession of Beef is a non-bailable offence in Maharashtra! Just imagine this scenario: My Mother-in-Law’s sister in Law packs some Beef for me as i travel by Vishal Travels or Jet Airways to Mumbai. Some customs fellow (say – Gopinath Deshpande or GD) runs my ‘parcel’ back and forth under his scanner. GD: Yeh Kya hai Beh? Me: Saar….. mera MIL ki SIL ne mereko thoda sa Khana baandhke diya tha. Dekha nahin. Sirf leke aaya. GD: Dekh saktha hoon? Me: saar.. kyoun sirf dekne ka hai? thoda taste bi kar lijiye na? GD: Andhar aao… GD tastes my MIL’s SIL’s package and says – “Arre… ye tho Beef hai. Kisne banayi? Me: saar.. bol diya na.. mera MIL ki SIL ne… Lekin aapko ye kya hai kaise maloom hai? GD: yaar.. kaao to Jaano. Baar baar….ye bahut TASTY hai. Sab khali kar doon kya? Me: Haan ji… jee barke kaalijiye. GD: Yaar.. this is FINGER LICKING GOOD. What and ALL they are talking about Kasargod Fried Chicken! But, kripya mereko aapko ARREST karna padega. Me: Ayyo! Kaiko, Gopinath Saheb? GD: Bewakoof… don’t you know – The newly amended Act makes possession of beef a non-bailable offence, punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year or with a fine up to Rs2,000? Me: But saar… aap ne mera poora dabba katam kiya. GD: Bewakoof…..act no. XYZ, 19xx…. I was talking SIRF of “possession”. Not about act no. ABC, 19yy on CONSUMPTION. • From sHaiKH moHD rizwan on Bengaluru: Rape case - Seer fails to turn up for medical tests

As you rightly pointed out, the Nirbhaya case took place in Delhi. What was wrong in holding state govt responsible ?-Atheist Mr.Original Pai Sir,Delhi is neither a State, nor a Union Territory. It used to be a full fledged Union Territory till 1991, when the 69th amendment of the Constitution gave it a special status. The amendment declared the Union Territory of Delhi to be formally known as National Capital Territory of Delhi. A system of diarchy was introduced under which the elected Government was given wide powers, excluding law and order which remained with the Central Government. The actual enforcement of the legislation came in 1993. Police stays with the Center, and hence most of the Law and Order. The NDMC, which is the municipality for New Delhi stays with the Center as well. In case of any laws which the Delhi assembly is going to pass, if there is a contradiction with the central law, it looks like the Central law has more weight. Public Works Department (PWD) is with the Delhi Government, and also the Anti Corruption Bureau. However now the ACB doesn’t have the jurisdiction over the Delhi Police and DDA, but, Delhi High Court didn’t think so – HC raps cops for questioning Anti Corruption Branch’s powers. Although LG has to listen to the CM and the ministers and if he’s not happy with that, he has to go to the President. After this he would have to do what the President says. However there is a catch that if there is some urgency, he might take the decision on his own. However, before this, a detailed discussion with CM and ministers is expected as well. In other words Gujarat during 2002 heinous crime against humanity 3 days of relentless ‘Godhra’ carnage happened right under the noose of CM Modi’s administration. He is the the first Chief Ministr in the history of India interrogated for ……. His ‘puppy’ and ‘baby making factory’ is well recorded which can be held against him. Whereas in the case of cow loving swamiji the government of Karnataka acted and referred the case to CID probe. However in the first time in the history of India RSS leaned governor sought medical report of the accused from ruling state government. Did Governor of Rajasthan and Haryana ever sought report when Asaram bapu who was on run for murder and rape or in the case of CBI Charges Sirsa Cult Leader for Murder and Rape or Baba Rampal terror ashram? Why the Karnataka state opposition BJP is not calling for immediate arrest of culprit swami and forcing the judges to recuse through RSS pressure? How does ‘Nirbhaya’ rape is different than rape swami disciple? Is Modi’s ‘Selfie with daughter’ won’t call for thorough investigation and stringent punishment of rapist to protect the dignity of women? Jai Hind

We need to critically understand the Eco sensitiveness of Dakshina Kannada region while framing policies for Economic sustainability. On the industries front, we need to set up Eco-industrial parks that promotes manufacturing various green products to meet our country demands. The purpose of an eco-industrial park is to connect a number of firms and industries to work together to decrease their environmental impact while simultaneously improving their economic performance. The components for building an eco-industrial park include natural systems, more efficient use of energy, and more efficient material and water flows. Industrial parks should be built to fit into their natural settings in order to reduce environmental impacts, which can be accomplished through plant design, landscaping, and choice of materials. The landscaping of the buildings will include native trees, grasses, and flowers, and the landscaping design will also act as climate shelter for the facility.

Cities which already have 3 core values of LIVEABILITY, WORKABILITY and SUSTAINABILITY are potential cities to become Smart Cities when Digital technology is integrated into city systems. Mangalore already has this 3 core values in moderation. All it needs is to frame policies that allows to scale up these 3 core values, as this city is expected for a rapid growth in the coming future. Following are the Bench marks in achieving these 3 core values. LIVEABILITY : Clean city. Healthy living conditions with minimum air, water pollution. Minimal traffic congestion. City services conveniently available any time any where. WORKABILITY : Good transport connectivity. Good built environment. Good data connectivity comparable to global standards. SUSTAINABILITY : Provide services without damaging or stealing from future generations. Through digital technology the city gathers data from various smart devices and sensors embedded into Power, Water, transportation grids, buildings and other assets. It shares that data via smart communication systems wired or wireless. It uses smart software to create valuable information and digitally enhanced services. Some of the enhanced services for example include emergency response centres, city security control centres, smart power grids, smart water grids, which provide citizens detailed information to help them to reduce their bills and smart transportation that uses the power of computers to optimise travel through out the City.

It’s activities should be ecologically sustainable rather than exploitative.

Are you out of your mind? Why are you blaming Siddhu’s failure on Modiji ? -Atheist Mr.Original Pai Sir,To refresh your memory Modi is not a Prime Minister of Gujarat but Republic of India. The Cow loving swamiji is well protected by RSS run Nagpur Parliament despite confirm DNA report from the forensic report. It is first time in the history of India RSS leaned Governor sought report of medical test from the ruling government. The Congress is falling into its own grave by inactions which was pre planned by RSS labs. They used ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Beef’ ban as the main political goal in its divisive politics. It has lost its identity in northern India and slowly surrendering to ‘Congress Mukt’ India. The first step they took is by removing Late Rajiv Gandhi’s security shield by exposing him to LTTE terrorists. Then rebranding popular projects and stop printing stamps in their name. Now they are relentlessly behind CM Sidarhmaih and Mr.Kajriwal and Himachal Pradesh is also not spared. They use RSS fringe groups to create communal tension in non BJP states and use government machinery to defame the ruling parties. The BJP is hell bent on protecting this ‘Cow loving’ swami. If he is thrown to jail they are going to lose main trump card for the next elections in which ‘Beef ‘ is one of the main contentious issue.Unfortunately no political party in India new how to counter the communal politics of RSS political wing BJP.It became common trend in those places going for elections.A non-BJP ruled state are highest risk of becoming vulnerable to communal politics. In fact, either it is the communal situation in Mangalore in Karnataka or the ban on Sanatan Sanstha, it (Congress) has always been exposed. While BJP is continued to capitalise and scoring on communal issues. There are none from Karnataka BJP todate spoken against Swamiji rape cases. It is sure indication that RSS political wing BJP is endorse the backdoor full immunity to the culprit. While Modi’s tweetarties are busy defaming CM Siddu in daily rhetoric cracking jokes linking with his popular social schemes. The Karnataka Congress government should immediately pass anti-superstition bill and reopen Hubli court yard bomb blast case to expose the BJP. It need to act strongly against Moral policing in the Coastal District with shoot at sight. The Congress has to do some retrospect. It should ask Modi government to pass anti communal violence bill 2013. If they can’t do corrective actions, the Maharashtra,Delhi and Rajasthan failure will haunt them in Karnataka as well. Jai Hind

  • From sHAIKh moHd rizwan on Mangaluru: Stripping and Assault of Youth at Attavar – Another Accused Arrested

Dear readers, ‘Pub attack’ by Sri Rama sena all the accused get bail. ‘Morning Mist’ attack on the private party same members got bailed earlier in ‘pub attack’ once again rewarded bail. Mohammed Ikhlaq, the father of an Indian Air Force(IAF)personnel, dragged out of his house, beaten up and murdered in cold blood. Just day ago,a man in Kanpur was lynched on the false suspicion that he was a ‘Pakistani terrorist’. Another man was killed in Delhi by Policeman, recently.Yet another, by a mob in Delhi, before that. Earlier over the alleged rape of a woman in Dimapur that led to the lynching of the accused by a mob has taken a dramatic turn with the Nagaland government informing the Centre that it “appeared to be a case of consensual sex”. Since time immemorial, people have been killed for what they believed in. We are all familiar with the stories of how early Christians were thrown before hungry lions by the Romans to the delight of cheering mobs. Patriarch Abraham was flung into a raging inferno by Nimrod. The early believers of Arabia had to go through hell and high water for their faith. In India, the followers of Buddha were nearly wiped out even as the faith spread to far corners of the world. All of them paid a price for their beliefs. So it would be a historic first that in Narendra Modi’s India people are now being killed for what they eat. While he wows the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies with his tech savvy and slick slogans of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ in between the regulation selfies and made-for-TV emotional bear-hugs with the Silicon Valley whizkids, his comrades in khaki shorts have been going about their business, telling people what to wear, what to eat and what to read and watch. The PM who takes pride in being a ‘strong and assertive leader’ has yet to open his mouth to send out the message that he will not tolerate these attempts to wreck communal peace in the country. Instead he has rewarded characters like Giriraj Singh and men involved in Muzaffarnagar riots with ministerial berths. While the Prime Minister endlessly regales foreign leaders and desi friends of the BJP with pearls of wisdom about India’s fabled rich heritage, tolerance and democratic strength, the Parivar has captured every sphere of public and private activity. Even if Modi doesn’t directly support the bigotry and violence of fellow travelers, he’s certainly guilty of condoning and encouraging it with his deafening silence. And that silence is seen as the license to kill by the fringe. As they say, jaisi raja waisi praja. People follow the leader. So if intolerance is on the march across the land, you know what’s fueling it. It recommended PM Modi should live in New York and run govt through ‘Digital India’ and ‘Man Ki baat’ and visit India whenever there is elections. “Human sacrifice in Uttar Pradesh to maintain cow’s sanctity”. • From Richard D'souza on Udupi: Oscar Fernandes Inaugurates Various Projects in City

The people in Authority for development of Udupi are forever seen only inaugrating showrooms, concerts, festivals, and buildings. Why can’t these take a good look at Udupi town, and realize: 1. The City bus stand and the Service are not safe public place, always too crowded with buses entering and leaving recklessly, with little or no regard to people in the vicinity. 2. One cannot cross a road in Udupi town, needless to say, the elders and the handicapped face the biggest challenge and risk death. Nothing is foreseen for pedestrian crossing. 3. Traffic volume of buses, lorries, cars, rickshaws, and motorcycles have increased 100 fold, yet no traffic light system are installed at Kalsanka, at old Diana circle, at the KSRTC Municipal Bus stand area, at Ajjarkad near Big Bazaar, at Bannanje-DC Office road intersection. 4. Street lighting is non-existant at Clock Tower (Agitation Area), old Diana Circle, and during power shut downs. 5. Garbage bins are non-existant on main roads, public areas (Polishing Agents like Syndicate Bank, Sai Radha’s Manohar Shetty are donating this and that to get favours from the Municiplity), like Udupi Municipality cannot afford to buy bins, or install bus stops from the large revenue they garner from various taxes. 6. Swaach Bharath – these same guys were seen with brooms etc., where are they today – just look at the garbage littered everywhere in Udupi – even a lot is being dumped on the way to the Udupi Railway Station. The garbage collection – Tractor ferrying a large bin on wheels is certainly of the gandhian times, people in authority should check the internet to know how solid waste is collected and managed today. 7. The list can go on!

What’s up with these ‘vision statements’ and prize money? We seem to prefer theatrics over real action. This is turning into another drama where we will have vision statement, dance, yatras and what not!! At the end, city will continue to look and feel like a remote corner in Sudan or Nigeria!! Meanwhile, officials and politicians will be cooking up colorful reports on the ‘progress’ made and………..!! @ Pradhaana Sevaka – Please do not call this a ‘smart city’ project. It’s an insult to smart cities all over the world. There is no point in skipping steps in natural growth. her single is a recreation of British band Coldplay’s hit number “Paradise”, said a statemen…… Quote from the news article. In other words the daughter inheriting her father’s plagiarising genes which is in live action. A human being is a product of his inherited genes, as well as the society he lives in. This news item is a classic example. Using this argument Anu Malik can safely argue that he is not responsible for his actions as the genes and society are to be blamed for his faults in life. Some food for thought.

  • From Original R.Pai on Mangaluru: 'We need 'Smart Officials' of 'Smart City' to Stop Contract Labour Practice' - MMSU

In my opinion, Pradhaana Sevaka seems to have a wrong approach towards ‘smart city’ and here is why. We can’t even seem to maintain basic standards in three key areas in our cities – water supply, power supply and Urban infrastructure. The failure in these three critical areas have resulted in massive hygiene issue, chaos, safety threats and lack of living standards as compared to other developing nations. Those who traveled in China, Thailand, Malaysia would have witnessed a much advanced and efficient urban models as compared to India. When you look at our rankings in many key/basic areas, we find ourselves in the company of Sub Saharan Africa!! Even in areas that we brag about such as Internet and digital world, we are slightly better than Nigeria and Ghana!! The talk about ‘smart city’ without focusing on basic facilities is no different from a 3rd grader talking about a Phd in Quantum Physics. I personally think that this is a wrong move by Narendra Modiji. He should either rename this from ‘smart city’ to something else. Or, he can focus on creating a few brand new towns/cities with a full focus on all aspects of planning. Looking at the way things are going, the ‘smart city’ seems to be just another reason for our politicians to secure huge grants and fill their pockets!! Five years from now, there is a good chance that Mangaluru will be in a bigger problem in terms of water supply, power and quality of roads.

We attack a leader like Modiji for talking about ‘swatchcha bhaaratha’ and politics of excellence!!-Atheist Mr.Original Pai Sir,Ganga cleaning is the major issue and part of BJP election manifesto . It is the Supreme Court has again criticised the poor progress of the Ganga Action Plan and asked the NDA government whether it would be able to complete the cleaning of the river in this term or in the next.So far Rs. 2000 crore has spent just dumping into the water like someone taking holy dip. Tweets, photo ops, and clever slogans cannot bring about the change India needs. If Mr. Modi wishes to be the transformative leader that Indians gave him a mandate for, he must back up his inspiring rhetoric with action. He needs to fill the ranks of government with talented administrators, pledge to openness and transparency in government affairs, and unreservedly condemn and sideline the communalist forces among his allies. Modi can’t expect 8th grade failed incompetent Uma Bharati to grab ‘mud’ from the floor of ganges. It needs expertise, planning, funding and execution. A 15 lakh to every Indian can be ‘Jumla’ but even citizens are closing watching the actions. It is time to walk the talk. Maximum utterance, minimum governance is the present reality. Jai hind

Some of the contract staff I have spoken, told me how much they get paid. It is shocking. Even the beggars make more than these Contract Workers. Hello guys, forget about political differences. Participatory governance is one of the norms followed world over. Ministry of Urban Development has made participatory governance mandatory. Governance means give people what they need. People have to tell government what they need through suggestions. I think only one city in Karnataka will be selected for Smart City project in first round of finalizing 20 cities. Hope for Mangalore being selected in other rounds are doubtful as other rounds itself are doubtful. Currently Mangalore lags behind Hubli-Dharwad in number of suggestions submitted in MyGov a crowd sourcing web portal of Government of India. • From Praveen on Mangaluru: Mayor Jacintha Inaugurates Suggestion Box for Smart City at MCC

Governance means give people what they need. – Lord Krishna Sir’ji, “governance” ALSO means, deliver on what you promise people! Just to jiggle your memory – the 15 lakhs to every Indian (our dearest Sir rampa’ji excluded for obvious reasons) promised by our Pradhana Sevaka’s Jokers Party! AND in retrospect – to think that those Jokers even gave a 150 days time-frame to accomplish that! 🙂 And those Jokers want free internet in remote villages where no power exists! Where people are worried ONLY about food and a roof over their heads! And just FORGET Arnab Goswami’s fav dialogue – the country wants to know! Lol. So, who will deliver? AND on what front? As a columnist on NDTV wrote: “For the success of Make-in-India, foreign investment is a must and to become an investment destination, five components are needed – education, health, infrastructure, safety and justice. But here the order has been reversed. The budgetary allocation in education was reduced – the budget of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan was cut from Rs. 27,758 crore to Rs. 22,000 crores and the outlay for the Mid Day Meal scheme went down from Rs. 13,214 crore to Rs. 9,236 crore. As per data available, the budget for health care and family welfare has been reduced from Rs. 39,000 crore to Rs. 33,000 crore. No attempt has been made to improve the law and order situation across the nation. Huge vacancies are left unfilled in the police and paramilitary forces. Despite a Supreme Court ruling, police reforms are still a distant dream.” “Judicial reforms should have been of top priority on Modi’s agenda for development. But industrial litigations are taking years to reach any conclusion. Infrastructure development is moving at a snail’s pace. On ease-of-doing-business, India is ranked 142 among 189 countries.” Well, so MACK a trip to India, if nothing!

  • From sas on Say NO To Caste Based Reservation

This type of reservation policy of the Government has fostered inefficiency, lower productivity, and mismanagement in all sectors of economy, especially the stinky public sector. So long we continue to follow the caste-based reservation policy, we will never promote ourselves into developed economy. It is only the private entrepruenership of our skilled personnel that has helped the country’s economy grow; not the inefficient government sector nor the people managing that sector who are placed there not because of their ability, but because of who they are. One side we preach about “One India, One People” and our political stalwarts keeping in mind the votes don’t think of national interest, but their own self-centered interest. What we need is not the caste-based reservation; we need affirmative action program, that would help economically and socially backward communities to help themselves to get into the mainstream of Indian economy, based not who they are, but what they are.

I worked as a House Physician (junior doctor) in 1968 at Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore under Dr M Keshava Pai, a brilliant Physician. he asked me if I was interested in carrying out a small research project on amoebiasis. He also got another house officer called Leena Prabhu (I hope she gets to read this). A drug called Berberal (extract of bearberry) became available for use in dysentery. Dr. Pai knew the potential of this drug in treating amoebiasis and asked us to do a in-vitro study using different concentrations of the Berberal solution. It was interesting watching this amoeba under the microscope. The amoeba stopped its pseudopodial movements within a minute or so and we presumed it to be dead as it showed no signs of life after a few hours. We tested about 20 stool samples but I cannot remember if it was ever published or the drug getting licence for use in amoebiasis. I left Mangalore a year later to follow Dr. Pai’s foot steps and went to the UK. I am pleased to say I have had a successful career following Dr. Pai as my mentor. Dr Ramesh Mallya UK PS. You are welcome to type in my name “Dr Ramesh Mallya” in Google search and also under “Google Scholar” and see my research and publications. Sadly Dr Pai is no longer with us to read this storey. He was instrumental in introducing me to laboratory and clinical research. Unfortunately I have also lost contact with Dr Leena Prabhu. Thank you for reading this snippet.

We seem to be fixated on elected representatives through the religious lens. For example : it is we who are responsible for not taking to task the MP, MLAs, the Kumaras the RAI’s the Moilys for selling us in the Yettina Hole. Politician is the person who thinks and works about re-election whereas the “states man” thinks about the next generation. If we allow through our lens of cast ( this community that community) and religion the opportunists make hay when the sun shines ( tax payers money). If we have zero tolerance for corruption in our personal lives – we also can have zero tolerance for the ELECTED REPRESENTATIVEs behaving like the MAHARAJAs of modern times. We allow these things to happen. We glorify them. We put posters, we call them to give speeches. Are they really qualified to give speeches?

Indians have been incredibly patient and forgiving of an undeserving, corrupt, incompetent and shameless political class that has consistently failed them for far too long. Very simple – Mangaluru people deserve what they have for electing incompetent people and setting low expectations. -Atheist Mr.Original Pai Sir,It is your own party high command decision within BJP high rank awarded the tickets for candidates. The 16th Lok Sabha will have the highest number of MPs with criminal cases against them. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), which analysed the election affidavits filed before the Election Commission, 34 per cent of the new MPs face criminal charges. The percentage in 2009 and 2004 stood at 30 and 24 respectively. Over a third of the BJP’s new MPs are facing criminal charges and over a fifth face serious criminal charges.followed by BJP ally in the NDA the Shiv Sena 15 of 18 MPs.Party-wise, the largest 98 or 35 percent of the 281 winners from the BJP have in their affidavits declared criminal cases against themselves. The results of Parliamentary Elections are very interesting. With 31 per cent vote share BJP-Modi won 282 Parliament seats, Congress with 19 per cent vote share got 44 seats, BSP polled 4.1 percent of votes and drew a total blank, the Trinamool Congress won 3.8 percent of vote share with 34 seats, Samajwadi Party won 3.4 percent with five MPs, AIADMK with 3.3 got 37 seats, Mamta with 3.8 per cent of vote share got 32 seats while CPIM with 3.3 percent of vote share got nine seats. We should note that this time around Congress’s 19.3 per cent votes translated into 44 seats while during last general elections of 2009 BJP’s 18.5 per cent had fetched it 116 seats. That is a tale by itself, the crying need for electoral reforms that has been pending despite such glaring disparities that weaken the representative character of our Parliament. Many social activists have been asking for these reforms but in vain. How can you expect sadhvi, yogis, swamis, fake degree holders can fill the potholes with wide mouth under PM Modi’s ‘Good governance’ ,who himself M-R-S for Mrs? Is that 31% voters is extra smart or is intelligent people’s district is in Dementia is in question? Jai hind

Vaatala Naagaraaja is a failed politician who made a living out of agitation!! – RampaNNA Why does that VERDICT remind me of a certain fellow called Advani? http://www.ndtv.com/blog/bjp-journeys-on-forgets-yatri-advani-1223172?pfrom=home-opinion At a government function on Friday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley moved the late Deen Dayal Upadhyay, founder of the BJP’s former avatar the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, from the pantheon of those who built the party to the ranks of those who built India. The function to mark his 99th birth anniversary saw a bastion collapse. An RSS man was honoured at the Nehru Memorial. A few kilometres away at an Eid Milan organised by the BJP’s Shahnawaz Hussain, party patriarch L K Advani sat beside his daughter Pratibha, accepting greetings. There were not many BJP leaders jostling to greet him. But for Mr Advani, groomed by Deen Dayal Upadhyay, September 25 held more significance. Exactly 25 years ago, he had set off on a journey that would transform the national political landscape. Forever. On September 25, 1990, Mr Advani was on a saffron rath at Somnath in Gujarat. Surrounded by a sea of saffron flags and lakhs of supporters. He couldn’t hear his own voice – such was the din. He was starting the Ram Janambhoomi Rath Yatra. At the Eid Milan I asked Advani, now 87, “Can a yatra succeed now like your first one did?” He looked up. With a faint smile and a twinkle in his eye he said, “Yes it can. Depends on what the subject is.” Politics can be a cruel space. 25 years ago no one could have predicted that on 25 September today he would be sitting alone at an Eid Milan. His party rules the country with a majority. His one-time protégé; and RSS pracharak Narendra Modi, the man who organised his 1990 Rath Yatra, is the prime minister. Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Anant Kumar and others groomed by him are shaping the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2014, when the Narendra Modi- Amit Shah duo took charge of the party, Mr Advani was excluded from the party’s decision making bodies and consigned to a “Margdarshak mandal” or guidance committee. The committee has never met. After his Somnath to Ayodhya yatra, the BJP rose dramatically. From a dismal two seats in the Lok Sabha in 1984, to 88 in 1989, 120 in 1991 and 187 in 1996. In 2014, the party won over 280 seats, coming to power a fourth time. But today, the structure built over Mr Advani’s yatra doesn’t visibly recognise him as the foundation. BJP old-timers recall that in 1990, Narendra Modi as the party’s Organization Secretary in Gujarat, had held a crucial briefing about Mr Advani’s rath yatra about 10 days before it began. That was Modi’s first brush with the national political stage. The rath yatra opened the doors to Delhi for him. The association grew. After the 2002 Gujarat riots, then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee wanted Chief Minister Modi to resign. But Mr Advani used his clout and shielded him. —————————————————————————— Quite a success, your Margadarshaka, eh? Don’t be SO SELECTIVE ya Rampu. 🙂

By the way, a few questions here: 1. How exactly did you arrive at the figure of Rs. 50 crores? 2. Does the same figure apply when it is Akhanda Bharatha Bundh? Or will it be multiplied times the no. of states… ..or will it be a genuine pre-estimate of loss to revenue etc? 3. And pyare sir’ji Rampaji, what would the figure amount to when Parliament is disrupted? 4. Can this figure of 50 crores lakhs (or more – depending on your answer to point 2 above) penalty/damages be applied retrospectively – as in ‘retrospective tax’? • From sHaiKH moHD rizwan on Udupi: Woman with Two Kids goes Missing from Volakadu

What do you think of millions of hindu, christian and other women who don’t wear hijab?-Atheist Mr.Original A common misconception is that Muslim women are the only ones who cover their hair. It may be true that Islam is the only religion in which most women follow its directives to cover the hair, but it is not the only religion to have such directives. There can be only one answer to this: yes, it is! Simply open the Bible to the First Epistle to the Corinthians, chapter 11. Read verses 3-10. But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered, disgraces his head. But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered disgraces her head, for it is the same as if she were shaven. For if a woman is not covered, let her be shaven. But if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, let her cover her head. A man indeed ought not to cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God. But woman is the glory of man. For man was not created for woman, but woman for man. This is why the woman ought to have a sign of authority over her head, because of the angels. Mother Mary(Peace upon her) is depicted with headgear and even Nun these days follow the same. I know that Hindu is a different religion and India has different customs. In Northern India, a ghoonghat (ghunghat or jhund) is a veil or headscarf worn by women to cover their head, and often their face. The ghungat was popular in India until at least the 1930s, but its usage has steadily declined since. However, the ghunghat is still in use in rural parts of northern India, especially in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh. As the ‘Ghungat’ dropped from the head and slipped through the chest many Originals started looking women with weird manner.Today in Modi’s India every 22 minutes women is being raped because of modesty. Original western Bikini culture may have influenced you lot.Kindly keep your prying eyes from the dirty gazing. We may have Khajuraho in one hand but our women still carry the dignity. Jai hind

Brisk walking in Mangalore and Udupi is almost impossible these days due to excessive vehicular traffic. They need to design many parks for Mangalore and make it a healthy city which can breath fresh air again. On a serious note regarding Alzheimer’s disease, it is a real tragedy when the afflicted can not remember the names of their loved ones even. Amitabh Bachchan has depicted this role well in the movie ‘BLACK’ where Rani Mukherjea has acted superbly as a deaf and blind girl who learns dancing through just touch. It is apparently a true story. Coming back to Mangalore, I am glad they chose it for one of the smart cities in the 100 smart cities project. Our city is bursting at seams. It is one of the most undesirable cities in India to live. This has happened in the last 15 to 20 years. No politician has done any thing to stem the rot. Instead of bull shitting on nonsensical matters, MLA and MP’s of our city should join hands and find a way forward. I just read an article on the state of affairs of Arya Samaj Road. That is pathetic. Alfie deserves the kudos for doing his selfless work.MCC corporators should wake up from their deep slumber. We need a real leader of a Mayor who can inspire and make things happen. They transfer some one like Hepshiba Rani Korlapati when she just shows promise of doing things done. Corruption is the biggest issue. Ban the corrupt. Samaj ko badal daalo.

Aamir Sir’s movies make more sense than other big star’s films in Bollywood, he always deliver a subject that teaches something along with a great entertainment value. I am actually not his fan but a fan of his work and dedication. P.K is a awesome movie and Rajkumar Hirani made the most out of the concept. The main factor of P.K’s success in overseas is its universal appeal and the seriousness of the concept.

““the dark times” have already arrived in the country!” screams ‘black-friday’ Fr. Cedrick Prakaasha. In principle, I am fully against state agencies snooping on citizens. I am also opposed to any move by govt to control, limit and monitor personal, private communications between individuals. I hold these views irrespective of who is in power – be it BJP, Congress or whoever!! Unfortunately, we can’t say the same thing about the author who has repeatedly shown his failure to be impartial in his analysis. He talks about showing moral courage and importance of doing right things to fight evil. I have a simple question for him – Did he oppose certain groups who bullied the entire media and country into not publishing cartoons of a religious figure??

Its not only potholes. Even concrete roads have serious damages for example at the streach near Shedigudde vegetable market the concrete is coming off and iron rods are exposed – surely a serious threat to 2 wheelers. Actually it is more meaningful for us to block the roads and protest. Any takers? MCC staff are not just there to collect salaries. Somehow – this smart city hype has had them under the illusion that they have done great jobs and their efforts have borne fruit. My personal view is that – it is disgusting to see posters of MCC/MLA/MP – let them just do their jobs without posters. We do not need posters. Perhaps we can organize a day – take down posters day!!

I think coming to judgment before a thorough investigation is jumping the gun. A person who kills his wife and children would hardly be bothered about who gets his insurance (if any, coz insurance is not given in suicide cases). Not only are the mother and brother the benefitors, but also out of the scene on the crucial day having been there a day before and also living not so far. I am not blaming them, but only pointing to the coincidence. The bagpiper could have been planted. The fact that he had no economic problems and also no real conflicts between husband and wife (relationship or affairs) leads to the fact that this could be a premeditated murder and the letter could have been written in duress (he could have been forced to write the letter at the fear of injury to his wife or kids. Let us wait for the reports and investigation. People would do anything for money and property.

When you go to the doctor he says there is no medicine for dengue (at least until recently). Papaya leaf juice has worked on all cases I have seen. So we do have the “surmisable” evidence of the fact that it does work. You just don’t know whom to believe and what to discard these days as different studies come up with different findings on the same subject. On top of that there are these lobby group-sponsored studies which just inflict scare on people’s minds such as Soursop/guanabana/lakshman-phal consumption worsens cancer but there is no evidence of that. Looks like there is big money invested in Cancer research so the industry is scared such simple solutions may harm their interests so they bribe a western-educated stooge to write an essay which casts aspersions on such remedies while scaring the shit out of people.

(That’s what these dishonest folks do blaming every crime and imaginary attacks on church/mosque on the party they hate) This seems to be a much bigger issue spreading to smaller cities from metros. It was very common in big cities like Bengalooru and now these gangs are operating in Mangaluru area. It’s unrealistic and unfair to ask people to walk around with no chain as every married Hindu woman wears ‘mangala sutra’ as part of tradition. Our Police needs to wake up and protect ordinary citizens from these street thugs.

That is the million $ question to ask, Mr. BN Pai. I’m told by the KEB that the generator (an outdated American make) needs some spares. Moreover, since their budget is woefully inadequate they do not have money to procure it…. let alone courier it. However nothing to worry. Our ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಸೇವಕ is currently in ಯಮ್ರೀಕ. Using his superior persuasive and negotiation skills, I’m sure that he will wangle such a fine deal that the whole of ಅಖಂಡ ಭಾರತ let alone ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ will be lit up like a Xmas tree 24 x 7 x 365! All we need to do is just wait till he ‘Superman’ returns! 🙂

Dear Nalina Kumaara and other unknowns standing next to him, The politics of agitation shouldn’t be the only thing to focus on. Please ask yourself what have you done to implement Sir Modiji’s swachcha bhaaratha and many other policies. Do you even remember what state BJP did when they were in power? If you don’t focus on good governance and delivering results, you will be no different from corrupt Congress party!!

Thanks for the report – This gives a much better understanding of the project. I still feel that the idea of ‘smart city’ is quite a stretch when we can’t even look like an average city!! Those who have traveled abroad and visited developed nations know what I am referring to. We will go a long way if we just focus on a tiny portion of this large report – I’ve reproduced it below: 1) Road Development (including Intersections / Interchanges, Pedestrian facilities, ROBs & RUBs etc.) 2) 24×7 Water Supply (including rain water harvesting and usage of recycled water) 3) 24×7 Power Supply 4) Household and Public Sanitation 5) Solid Waste Management 6) Sewerage System (including waste water treatment and recycling of waste water) 7) Storm Water Drains If we can address these 7 areas, our city would look far better than what it is today.

    • From B.N.Pai on Mangaluru: Yettinahole River Diversion Project a Huge Scam - Poojary

Referring to Janardhana Poojari, B. Dinesh says, “This guy really needs to retire and stop criticizing – he had his time since early 1970s- leave the ruling party to run the government and govern the country – stop being a pain!” Yes, only cheddi clad “dollotte mudiyas” can be allowed to talk about abolition of support to the down trodden disabled communities, but not Poojari on any concern of the people. He further preaches, “leave the ruling party to run the government and govern the country – stop being a pain!” This is “Jnanodaya at Nagpur conclave”. “Oppose any other party, but do not oppose the RSS stooges ruling the country” is the new doctrine prescibed to amend the concept of democracy. The people did a mistake by not giving the special majority to the BJP needed to amend the constitution. Had they given it, the BJP would have abrogated the Constitution and made India a totalitarian Hindu State controlled by the RSS. Next time, the minorities like the Muslims and Christians should believe the sermons of the RSS that Congress had used them as a vote bank and that they were deceived by the Congress, and ditch the Congress. Congress would be reduced to zero in the Parliament, BJP would abrogate the constitution and the “bunch of thoughts” would become our constitution!

Apparently, before the oil boom, Arabs used to come to Bombay for employment. The current slump in oil prices, which as per the global supply estimates, may continue for another 2-3 years. If that were to happen many arabs are likely to come to India in seach of livelihood. That time keep your whips ready.

Hearing about his loss has deeply saddened me, but we know that this is far from what the family is going through right now.Uncle John my God Father was a great mentor, who gave me my first Job & played an important role in my professional carrier, including education,we were very fortunate to visit him last year in 2014. I almost physically broke down when i could not get a seat in Hebich to do my Mechanical Trade in 1986 & he rescued me by pleading with the principal,I was also employed at his bakery M.D’souza at the Market road & in 1984-88, was paid a 100 Rs a week that was more than sufficient to keep me going, although it was part time work,i was given the facilities of full time work,I had the best of food & sweets in those days that no one could possibly enjoy, how ever well to do they were. During Uncle John’s retirement years we met many time at Mysore & i remember he definitely enjoyed the Mysore climate.I remember watching the last world cup 20-20 in 2007 with him in Mysore & we relished the last over when,After doing all the hard work, Misbah attempted a Dilscoop off Joginder Sharma and was caught by Sreesanth as India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa. I also enjoyed my time at the Bakery & working with his catering company,it was an easy life for me & Happy days. We will all miss his smile & very humble personality,I am sure he will have a good rest now after a long ailment. Johny Uncle Rest In Peace & you will be always remembered & missed. • From Roy on Aretha Franklin to perform for Pope Francis in US

Guess how Obama plans to welcome Pope Francis. From Rod Dreher Obama gets in Pope Francis’s face with LGBT rights This just in: The U.S. government said that it would adopt the term “sexual rights” in discussing issues about gender identities and sexual orientation. The statement, originally made at a United Nations meeting, came after weeks of lobbying from LGBT groups calling for the U.S. to show leadership on the issue. The new term encompasses the “right to have control over and decide freely and responsibly on matters related to their sexuality, including sexual and reproductive health, free of coercion, discrimination, and violence,” the State Department said, in a statement. Richard Erdman, deputy U.S. ambassador to the U.N., made the announcement earlier this week, saying that “sexual rights” would refer to ones that are not legally binding. “Sexual rights are not human rights, and they are not enshrined in international human rights law; our use of this term does not reflect a view that they are part of customary international law,” Erdman said. “It is, however, a critical expression of our support for the rights and dignity of all individuals regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity.” This is incredibly disingenous. So let’s take the government at its word, that it does not include “sexual rights” among those considered legally binding in international law. This is a prelude to pushing for that very thing. Here’s why it matters: if the West can get “sexual rights” written into international law, it can strongarm religiously observant Third World countries into accepting “sexual rights” as a condition of receiving development aid. Want to eat, black and brown people? Want our help fighting poverty? Then bow towards this Western idol. I am not surprised that a government led by Barack Obama would do this. Consider the in-your-face culture-warring the White House is waging on Pope Francis: Guests at the White House reception for Pope Francis on September 23 will include several gay and transgender persons, a controversial nun, a radical preacher and a gay Episcopal bishop. Several of the invitations to the event, which is part of the pope’s three-city tour of America September 22-27, were offered by Vivian Taylor. Taylor, 30, considers himself transgender, which means he identifies as a sex different from his biology. Taylor has male anatomy but dresses and presents himself as female. Until March of this year he was the Executive Director of Integrity USA, a homosexual and transgender activist wing of the Episcopal Church. Taylor lives in Boston and is now freelance writing. “A few months ago I received an invitation from the White House to attend the reception for Pope Francis,” Taylor told CNS News. “I was told I could bring several friends with me.” Among the five people Taylor chose: Nicole Santamaria, the Secretary of Asociacion Colectivo Alejandria, “a collective of transgender and intersex people seeking to promote awareness, provide training and education, and advocate for their community.” I’m sure Pope Francis will handle this with typical aplomb, but it’s remarkable, just remarkable, that the White House has chosen to get so in-your-face with the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Would Obama invite Tibetan dissidents to meet the Chinese president? As a diplomatic matter, it’s unthinkable. Would he invite Ukrainian activists to a reception for Putin? In either case, the diplomatic row from the challenge would be huge. But hey, he can treat the Pope this way? Really? These pieces of news are just another reminder of why so many religious and traditionalist people around the world resent the US government’s cultural imperialism. I don’t blame them one bit.

  • From Rajdeep Shetty on Sullia: Brave Soldier from Mandekolu Played a Key Role in Myanmar Strike against Ultras

Shaikh Rizwan: here is a closer look at the population statistics. Let us see who should be having the ‘Ajeerna’ tablet! According to the 2011 Census Muslims form 14.2% of the Indian population (172 million out of 1.21 billion). By that ratio there should be about 55 to 60 muslim recruits in the NDA!! But there are only 16! And that too was an exception this year! By the same census, the total population of Konkanis (This includes GSBs, Christians, as well as some ‘patriotic’ Bhatkalis!!) is 1.7million or 0.21% of the population. Assuming GSBs form 40% of the total Konkanis, even if there is half a GSB recruit (0.5) in the NDA, it would be a proportional representation!! Hope the ‘Ajeerna’ tablet bottle is somewhere close by.

Adults should have the freedom to do whatever they want to do with their money, body and life as long it doesn’t negatively harm others. In this case, these two girls clearly knew what they were doing. If they damaged any property, they should be held accountable. However, I don’t think it is fair to apply different standards on girls. For every girl who is drunk in public, there are hundreds and hundreds of men who do exactly the same!

The hotel’s action of throwing the girls out is highly objectionable. It is utterly business-like and utterly devoid of humanism. With the help of other students the girls could have been shifted to their hostel and then the parents should have been informed. A lot can be written about declining moral standards but ultimately the society, the parents, the alienation caused by neo-liberal values, pursuit of pelf to the exclusion of all else and the education system must bear the responsibility.

  • From ADRIAN GOMES on A Great Priest has Gone to the Lord! Fr Ronnie Prabhu Remembered at Condolence Meet

Glad to note that a condolence meet was held in remembrance of Fr. Ronnie Prabhu, but sad that I could not participate. As Mr. MAX Rasquinha said, there was lot to learn from him as I knew Fr. Ronnie Prabhu from our schooling days at SAC. Fr. Ronnie Prabhu would always bring a smile to every person he met whether young or old. I am sure a lot of priests too were inspired by Fr. Ronnie Prabhu. As we see Fr. Denzil Lobo in the meditation song in the 1st picture above, I still remember Fr. Ronnie Prabhu in the same posture during our school days. I am sure Fr. Ronnie Prabhu will always live in our hearts & our memories.

  • From Roy on 16,000 cops on City streets for Ganesha, Bakrid festivals

From scroll.in Rajasthan’s blood drive on Eid is yet another example of BJP’s doublespeak on secularism The ascent of Hindutva politics has left Muslims practically disenfranchised, searching for solutions in communitarian parties. Another day, another religious controversy. This time, it’s the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Rajasthan, which has made moves to practically cancel the Baqr Eid holiday for thousands of Muslim employed in state colleges. On September 25, the day of the festival, the state government has decided to organise a blood donation drive in government and private colleges to mark the birth anniversary of Jan Sangh ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya. The order takes great care to restrain college staff from leaving the college premises at the time of the blood donation, a fact that has, unsurprisingly, outraged many Muslims. Speaking to the Indian Express, Salim Engineer, national secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind said, “This is a clear violation of human rights of Muslim employees. Eid-ul-Zuha is the biggest festival for Muslims and an official event that day would deny people from celebrating it.” This isn’t the only minority holiday that was targeted. Last year, the Modi government decided to celebrate a day for “good governance” and scheduled it to coincide with Christmas, thus cancelling the holiday for any Christian government employees. Hindutva identity This is of course part of a larger trend to push whatever Hindutva’s version of “Hindu” culture is. If this sounds alarming, it’s because these two aren’t the only data points. For the one and a half years that Narendra Modi has been in power, his communication has been exclusively on Hindu lines. As part of its attack on “pseudo-secularism”, the Modi government stopped the practice of massive iftar parties during Ramzan, which was all fine, but before that the prime minister held a massive Ganga aarti to celebrate his election victory in the May 2014 general election. Of course, Modi is welcome to his personal faith. But the prime minister-elect made his aarti into a public function, ensuring that it was broadcast over national television for millions of Indians too see. As cynical as those iftar parties were, using personal faith for politics, this massive public spectacle of a puja was many orders of magnitudes worse. This trend, if anything, grew in force: during his August, 2014 trip to Nepal, Modi visited the famous Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu. Again, well within the bounds of state secularism for the head of government to believe in the spiritual powers of a place of worship. What was unconscionable was that the offering Modi made to the gods of the temple was paid for by the secular state of India. Narendra Modi offered Rs 4.1 crore worth of sandalwood and ghee to the temple. Tax payer money was diverted so that Narendra Modi could buy temple supplies. Of course, there was even hard power exercised. Beef was banned in Maharashtra under a near-draconian law based on the upper-caste Hindu taboos against it. Erasing secularism Part of this significant cultural shift towards making the state Hindu and the break down the secularism of the Indian state is driven of course by the ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party. For example, Deen Dayal Upadhya – the same person whose birth anniversary is being celebrated by cancelling the Eid holiday – decried the concept of a “secular state” as a “mere imitation of the western thought pattern” and even criticised individualism as a symptom of the same malaise. No wonder that the BJP can’t understand why using taxpayer money for religious gifts or stopping a person from eating what he wants is wrong. But this is not only about the BJP’s ideology. It’s bigger than that. There is also a deeper shift underway in the way the Indian state connects with India’s minorities. The earlier Congress system had many flaws when it comes to any strict practice of secularism. As Hamid Dabholkar, son of assassinated rationalist Prof Narendra Dabholkar puts it, the “Congress is pragmatically communal and BJP is programmatically communal.” However, the Congress pragmatism mean that it set up cross-community patronage networks. Since, it wasn’t driven by any narrow ideology but a simple self-serving urge to stay in power, the Congress picked up votes from wherever they came in. In this, Muslims were a target group and the Congress would spend time asking for their votes – even if, as many allege, after getting their votes, there would hardly be any work done and Muslim areas remained backward. Disconnect from power The Bharatiya Janata Party builds up its programme of attacking Muslims and of course, does not even consider their votes as potential BJP ballots. This means a complete disconnect of Muslims from power. From a tiny stake in Congress rule, Muslim have been pushed into the situation of having no stake now in the ruling party. With the BJP, not only is there an ideological but an electoral wall as well. This is, of course, an anecdotal truism but has also been proved using hard data. Muslims representation in the legislatures and executive falls with the BJP in power. More insidiously, data shows a strong correlation between communal riots and the BJP’s electoral performance, again driven by the this same wall. As a study by researchers at Yale University in the United States put it, “The pacifying effect of Congress incumbency appears to be driven by local electoral considerations, in particular the party’s exceptionally strong linkages to Muslim voters.” One outcome of this massive disconnect of Muslims with the powers-that-be – for the first time in independent India – is the rise of a multi-state communitarian Muslim force, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and its leader Asaduddin Owaisi. Like identity-based parties have used caste and Hinduism to push its politics, the MIM expects to do the same for the development of Muslims. Of course, as a solution for the severe marginalisation that Muslims now face, communitarian politics might seem to be a Hobson’s choice but it is fraught with dangers, given the nature of the communal public discourse. At least in the short term, Muslim identity politics, along the same lines as caste and Hindu identity politics, will generate a backlash and will find it far more difficult to find its place under the Indian political sun than, say, the BJP or Bahujan Samaj Party. For the meantime then, the Muslim employees of the state government of Rajasthan might have to find a different way out if they want to celebrate Eid.

  • From Horny Manatee on Transit passenger arrested in Abu Dhabi for unpaid UAE bank dues

Bodaa sheera? All the sharia banking laws and their draconian implications aside, the arrested man almost makes it sound like it’s alight to take out loan and abscond, so as to an extent to play victim in this incidence. Surely one would know they have to pay the money they have borrowed? There is another angle to banking in the Middle East – The oil boom in the last few decades has created an economy which almost looks like it has Western touch however at the core it’s still enshrined in the Islamic banking laws which makes it a criminal offence to default on the loans (as opposed to civil offence in the West/India). Many enlightened souls have fallen for this and almost certainly there will be more in the future. That said, I personally do not see anything wrong in Sharia banking per se however I take exception to this “western gloss” the Middle Eastern countries embellish in their banking system to make it look posh and modern. That breaks my noodle. Sharia banking is responsible banking where the borrower and the lender are brought together and both are responsible for the trade they make. This gives an opportunity for due diligence by the lender on the ability of the borrower to pay back the money based on the agreed terms. In the Western banking (which is what India also follows), there is opacity between borrower and the lender and the banks act as this wall between the two parties. The saver has no visibility on how responsibly his money in the bank is lent to a borrower. And this is at the heart of what’s wrong with the Western economy today. Banks gamble with the savers’ money and yet the savers are blissfully unaware of it. They take solace in this FDIC, deposit guarantee scheme etc. which practically can never work when the banking system grows beyond leap and bounds.
