  • From Ramesh Salian on Rs 98 Lac 'Clock Tower' by MCC! Is it a Mluru Landmark or MCC Inducted Traffic Nuisance?

What is the purpose of clock tower or Smart city? Is it only to give jobs to MCC consultants and contractors? Why people do not matter? Why there is no City Bus bay at the proposed multistoried parking at the old bus stand. Do only the car owners inhabit Mangalore?

People coming from Attavara have to go around clock tower to reach K S Rao road. God know whose bright idea was this. Traffic dept and MCC feels that giving trouble to people is their satisfaction. Pl revert to what was before and don’t use stupid ideas.

Dear Dr. Shantharam Shetty, what a pleasant surprise to see your photograph in the inauguration ceremony of a Building project initiated by Mr. Srinath Hebbar. I think I had a short dialog with Mr. Hebbar not too long ago with regard to his prestigious High Rise project ‘Solitaire”. I wish you best of success in all your kind interventions in any of the new projects in and around Mangalore. The City of Mangalore will always continue to shine under your leadership. I am making a good progress in my fractured leg, and I have my final check up with the Dallas Orthopedic Center on July 16, 2018 and hopefully they will give me a green signal with all the progress I have achieved for the past eight months. Thank you once again for all your kind help and treatment. As and when myself and my wife visit Mangalore next time we shall certainly make it a point to visit with you and your family. What a magnanimous job, and what a lovely contribution towards Mangalore from a retired priest. The young men will be fortunate in enjoying all the benefits that are preserved for them in their welfare of life. Monsignor Shenoy will bring with him tons of his experience and dedication towards social work, specially in honor of the young boys who will grow and proper in this new Institution. We would certainly like to visit this Institution during our next visit to Mangalore in order to witness the good work in honor of the young men of Mangalore.

How wonderful it is to live in USA, where the PM does not go globe-hopping and begging MAKE IN INDIA, and where all public infrastructure is constructed by educated and certified engineers and staff, and where every service is regulated, and life is so comfortable. You can write all your remaining life, Mangalore will be Mangalore and India will be India – Perhaps you have not read: IF YOU CUT THE HEN THAT LAYS GOLDEN EGGS, FROM WHERE WILL ALL THE WEALTH COME FROM! All shoddy works of the MPW, MEW, and the CENTRE are the Golden Eggs. Only that generates easy INCOME or WEALTH that you see all the MLA, CM, FM and PM and of course, everybody in-between have accumulated.

Creation of a Konkany Sangha at St. Aloysius was a marvelous idea. It helps the Konkany speakers and makes them feel proud that the language is getting more prominence in the Jesuit College where there are substantial number of Konkany speakers. People will only realize the value of knowing an additional language like Konkany when you are far away scattered from the native land. Others also feel proud of you when you display them the knowledge of a foreign language in spite of the fact that we have left our mother country long time ago. Our language, our culture, our traditions are all very valuable to us regardless where we are and how much we use a language known to us.

We owe our sincere greetings to Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, our new Bishop of Mangalore. What a lovely announcement to digest that while our existing Bishop is strong and healthy, we have now a new Bishop to carry forward all the new responsibilities and commitments of an ever-changing Diocese of India with nearly quarter of a million Catholics with more than ten dozen parishes. Mangalore has all the potentials to grow with some of the most prosperous Christians who are so closely united with the rest of Hindus and Moslems. Mangalore is a growing city with increased population with added possibilities of growth and prosperity. The Christians of Mangalore have an important role to play in the progress of the entire Nation. We have all the Educational, Social, Economical, Industrial as well as Religious strength to move forward with dignity and diversity. Thank you, Bishop Aloysius for all your leadership so far, and your continued help and guidance to the new Bishop will mean a great deal for our future progress of Mangalore.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Flash Mob cum Skit Performance by Aloysians at City Centre Mall

City of Mangalore is moving forward swiftly and progressively. Obviously, the Social and Economic outlook of the City is also changing steadily with growing infrastructure, bigger roads, bigger high rises and many other improvements in the City. The City needs a face uplift with greater spirits so that people enjoy the benefits of all the progress that is bestowed upon them with greater Educational, Industrial and Economic growth. Ultimately, the major beneficiaries of all the progress should be for the people and to the people of Mangalore who will come forward and give back more support to the City. This is where and how the people can encourage all the Investors and Entrepreneurs to divert more and more for the growth of the City. This is how we invite and encourage all the rest of India to visit Mangalore and dedicate more for the greater progress of the city proud of their secular values, their unity and also their diversity. The more and more people give back to the City will make the City grow in all shapes and patterns thereby paving way for the new generation to focus their future attention towards Mangalore, our beloved home town that we too can visit more often.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Ninth Graduation Day Celebrated in the Sahyadri Campus

Some of the new Graduates from Sahyadri College, to the best of our imagination, will turn out to be the best leaders in our country as well as abroad and will certainly help Mangalore to be made known as an Intellectual City. Sahyadri students are smart and enterprising, and they will prove themselves above the normal standards wherever they go and whatever they try to get involed with. The World needs young and bright men and women to embrace all the new opportunities that are waiting for them in this ever-changing and challenging society. Mangalore has some of the best Academic schools, and therefore we wish each and every Graduate to prove themselves to be the best in their respective disciplines. Regardless how fast we move forward in life, our Graduates should always keep Mangalore in their mind and give back to our home-town whatever best we can. That is the best way we all can help our home town and also our Mother Nation.

In the mid sixies Mere Mehboob starring Rajendra Kumar and Sadhana was released. Sadhana wears a burkha even in the class. I am sure all of you remember that immortal song Mere Meheboob tujhe meri Mohabbat ki kasam. India is a secular country. Muslims can wear burkha. No one is objecting. I do not see any thing wrong in a burkha except that it may make the person a bit sweaty especially in the ‘kudla’ weather. I feel sorry for the college authorities who have to deal with trivial issues rather than focussing on education. I particularly look forward to the views of J R Lobo, Ivan D Souza and Khader. Kuch toh boliye saab. The silence is deafening. PS: A certain part time actress called Rum is busy preparing anti Modi teeter on this matter.

Cover your head and leave your face open in classrooms. You are in the company of women there. Secondly ask the man o cover his head as well as men from Middle East cover their head.

Encouraging people in India to grow more jack fruit trees in order to produce more jack fruits is always a marvelous idea. Let people be encouraged to produce any kind of fruits and vegetables that people can consume and make a decent living for themselves and their families. Consuming jack fruits in order to prevent or control the disease of aids in India is also equally important, but initially let our masses of people learn how to be cautious in their daily pursuit of life and save themselves from contracting aids. That is the prime purpose of educating our people and save them from any deadly disease such as aids. There are dozens of precautions and preventions available for people to avail of and save themselves from aids or any other deadly diseases. People need education and therefore let people get all the educational benefits in order to save the humanity from any contagious and deadly diseases.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Talents Unleashed at St Aloysius B. Ed College 'Talents Day 2018'

B.Ed students have a tremendous responsibility ahead of them when they complete their Graduation and seek employment as Teachers in different Educational Institutions all over India and abroad. B.Ed students have one common goal in their minds and in their hearts and that is to seek a suitable Teaching profession in any reputable Institution and provide the very best to their students. India is certainly a place where Teachers have tons of new challenges to shoulder because the students depend on the new talents and new creativities that the Teacher brings to the Institution. ‘Talent” is the Key that each and every Teacher has to bring along with him or her when they begin their profession as a Teacher or a Professor in any Institution. Each and every Teacher has her or his own talents hence it is highly competitive area where a Teacher has to gather all the support and blessings from others in order to share the talents with the entire Institution and make the talents come into action. Talent is an inherited gift that each and every Teacher wishes to bring to the students and the Teacher needs all the understanding and support from the rest of the Institution. The spirit of Cooperation and Collaboration plays an important role, specially in India, where each Teacher has to compete with many others in order to make sure that his or her talents enjoy the support from all the rest so as to make his or her talents become a reality. Each of us therefore have preserve our inner talents and make sure we present our abilities to all our superiors in order to enjoy the best possible support. We wish all the B.Ed Teachers best of success in all their undertakings so that they receive the best possible support from all their surroundings, and that they prove their inner talents freely and willingly in order to enable the students get the best possible ultimate benefit. Talents in a young student are abundant, but everyone is not fortunate to produce their own talents so freely and willingly in a country such as India where the growing population of students bring growing competition in our every day life, particularly in our school environment.

ALL TELEPHONE COMPANIES SPEND ON CUSTOMER CARE CENTRERS, WHY CAN’T TATASKY ?. IT SHOULD BE MADE MANDATORY BY THE GOVT AS PART OF CUSTOMER RIGHTS PROTECTION.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangaluru Should not be Portrayed Negatively - Vipul Kumar

We fully and wholeheartedly endorse the views expressed in this article as far as the positive outlook of the City of Mangalooru. The City is moving forward very well as far as the Economy of the City and all the surroundings. We are certainly a strong and vibrant Education Hub of South India. With the benefit of Education we can and we have accomplished so many positive things in and around Mangalore that have helped us to move forward so well so far. Like any other Cities of the world, each City has its own problems, and that is part of the risk of progress we all have to face in our daily endeavor of life. The more progressive we are in our daily perception of life, the better we are in all our daily performance of life. The more benefit we shall be for ourselves and our people of a “model city” which has now become one of the “Smart Cities” of India. As already said, we all have to accept our weaknesses with a willingness to learn more and improve in our future endeavors of life. We have to help one another in order to make sure that Mangalore moves forward with pride so that we can enrich our Education even further, we can enrich our cultural, social and Economic endeavors in addition to our Religious values. We therefore pray that Mangalore will continue to strive for greater progress and prosperity under the banner of unity and diversity. Our secular values have to blend as deeply as possible in order to make many things possible for the betterment of Mangalore, our beloved home town that we love so much

Well, truth is bitter sometimes. There are two faces to this problem. On the one hand, there is still enough racist tendencies in Western society. On the other hand, Indians are notorious in abusing the system. Here in US, they have done so much damage by providing fake certificates, resumes and documents. Among Indians, the people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are the most corrupt people. It’s very disturbing to see the magnitude of corruption by telugu speaking people here.

This guy and his negative mindset are symbolic of everything wrong with our society. He would do anything to mock and accuse Hindus, BJP and Narendra Modi. It’s one thing if he is criticizing Modi’s social or economic policies. He has all the right to do so. But, why so much negativity and immature behavior in attacking a positive program (fitness challenge) that is aimed at making people aware of fitness and health? I guess when you have so much hatred in your heart, everything is possible. By the way, I haven’t heard him utter a single word on Islamic rituals and superstition. Mangalore is a city and not a jungle and in a city if trees come in the way of broadening road or improving it they should be cut down because they not only hamper traffic movement but also pose risk to the pedestrians.

We have ourselves loved St. Anthony’s Ashram not only for hundreds of inmates who are residing there, but the place has now become a sanctuaery for dozens of retired priests who are enjoying their retirement life after dedicating themselves in different Parishes of Mangalore. • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Orientation for Humanities Stream at St Aloysius College

Humanities Program as part of the Academic discipline at St. Aloysius College is a good initiative so that our students are able to achieve various disciplines at the Jesuit Institution in Mangalore. Let the students get the best possible benefits from the St. Aloysius College in every kind of Education so that many young men and women are able to avail of the intellectual facilities that are made available for them. There is no limit for learning. So long as there are qualified faculty members available in the Institution, let St. Aloysius College provide wide variety of Educational programs so that the students may qualify themselves in various available programs that could lead students to different professions not only in Mangalore but far and beyond. India is a country where Education thrives in so many different directions. I had visited St. Agnes College several years ago when Sr. Olivia was the Principal. Dr. Olivia introduced me to all the faculty group and I was amazed to meet so many Professional Faculty members specialized in Zoology. That enabled me to realize that there is a tremendous scope for Zoology related studies in and around Mangalore. Let the students of Mangalore get the benefit of all the Educational disciplines available for them, and let the choice be placed in the hands of the students and their respective parents and/or guardians. Sky is the limit for learning in Mangalore.

Sahyadri College is ideally located in such a way that they can easily conduct their own courses on a regular basis on Environmental issues that relate to Mangalore as a growing City. Sahyadri is located ideally at a lovely river front where we can do extensive research on preserving our river front by keeping a close watch on the daily activity of the area and save the river from any kind of unwanted pollution. Cleanliness on a daily basis of a river front requires constant vigilance and control. We have to educate people on a regular basis and make sure that each one adheres to all the required precautions and preventions. Rivers gather lot of debris that keeps floating from place to place that requires constant surveillance. What a joyful opportunity for the young students of Sahyadri College to learn some of the new techniques attached to maintaining cleaner river fronts so that all the surrounding inhabitants will learn the cleaner process over a period of time.

Exchange of discussions on all topics relating to our individual religions and faith is a very good idea in a country such as India where secular values are highly shared at all levels and in all cxommunities. Religious topics are always sensitive and can always flare up at any time unless we all know how to accept other’s points of views and accept them in the way they are presented. Unless and until we have the real desire to table various religious topics and share them with a spirit of empathy, we should never ever attempt to talk about a topic that could be volatile. Our respect towards one another is dependant upon our ability to appreciate other’s point of view on any subject, particularly on religion, and the more we understand each one’s point of view could help us to share our friendship and our goodwill on a higher pedestal provided we know how to accept other’s opinions and other’s pereptions.

All the precautions and preventions are ultimately focused on cleaner atmosphere so that people may have the privilege in maintaining good health and good welfare of all the people. With the ever increasing population in India, our daily consumption will always be on the increase and obviously there will be lot of wastage and waste disposal that has to be channeled properly and avoid any kind of pollution or obstruction to easy flow of any used facilities. The Police only register a complain and pass the case to the Judicial system, and thereafter nothing happens for years on end! A Police Clearance Certificate in India has no meaning – convicted murders, rapists, and goons are roaming around freely and have a list of conviction in many Police stations, and keep on committing more crimes and are famous, instead of being eliminated immediately since trials in India take forever, and are bread and butter of the judicial system.

The first step to avoid dumping of all kinds of food packaging and plastic water and beverage bottles, is to ensure that all the vendors at the Malpe beach and at the Surathkal beaches are banned from selling any packaged food such as chips, peanuts, water, beverages, food trays and cups made of styrofoam material. This eliminate the plastic bottles and other packaging materials that people carelessly discard on the beaches and in the sea, despite of amle garbage bins provided at the Malpe beach. The Malpe beach Authority must also ban tourist buses from cooking meals on the roadside and dumping waste all over. Sadly, there is no proper authority to impose this law and keep a strict check on it.

What a great honor and recognition. What a beautiful gift of recognition from the Himachal Pradesh Government in honor of a Nun and her dedication. Every simple act performed in one form or another dowshave a premium of its own. This is a true indication that the Governemnt is conscious of all the good deeds every citizen performs towards the Nation. These kind of incentives go a long way for many others to appreciate that good deeds have their own rewards in our nation, sooner or later.

  • From Richard Thomas on Opposition Busy in Mudslinging; MLA, MP not Responsible for Recent Flood in City - Lobo- Live

Mr. J.R. Lobo, kindly ignore those who complain and criticize and blame the ruling party. Whether you do good or bad, there will always be some who will criticize. Ask them for solutions instead and you will not find any answer from them! Mangalore city has hilly elevations, and therefore low lying areas will flood – take for example the area at Jyothi was flooded last year – the reason being poor Engineering – cubic capacity calculations are kept and executed to the minimum instead of foreseeing large flood water drainage systems and sewerage systems to withstand 10x volume of water in case of incessant rains – no one can predict rain! However, it has been noticed that the MCC and UMC have to seriously wake up and take responsibilities with regards to the construction of proper infrastructure, maintenance, and timely completion of jobs awarded by them to Contractors. Take for example the construction of HW66 is the biggest example – never seem to get completed even after so many years! No man has control over nature and natural disasters – even in Texas USA just two months ago there were heavy rains and flooding – but nobody complained nor criticized the Governor or the USA Government. Instead, all people came out to volunteer and help those in a disastrous situation and who became homeless overnight. People from all other States raised money to help those who lost lives, homes, and everything. MLA’s and MP do not run immediately to get photographed as they do in India. Indians should learn to be one and come to each other’s help when nature strikes – BJP or Congress MLA’s or even the PM cannot play God and control the consequences of rain or storm. But without true love and care and national unity – people cannot change – Parties hardly matter – they only want power!

We read with keen interest and joy the news of an additional Roman Catholicn Church in a place called Pilar in the Udipi Diocese, under the new leadership of Fr. Vishal, the first Vicar of the new Parish. This good news brings forward the news of an additional Catholic community with a brand new Parish with new ideas for expansion of a new Church group. What a joy to learn that in a country such as India we have the opportunity to create a new Parish that haa now a new Catholic community to congregate togeteher and pray together in order to be a new role model in the newly established community. Everybody is going to work together for a common cause in creating a new Catholic community in Pilar, and the community will continue to grow and prosper under God’s blessings. These kind of headlines truly inspires us in a country such as India where secular values prevail and help the community to thrive with unity and solidarity. God bless the people of Pilar, and let the new Parish bring unity and strength so that people can work together and help one another with the faith in God.

Talking about bad roads the road from Bondel Junction to Mudushedde is totally neglected with MCC passing the buck to the Mudushedde Panchayat and the latter saying they have no funds to do the road (courtesy the Panchayat representative who lives near the Badriya Jumma Masjid ). On 29th May there were 6 spills by 2 wheelers as the potholes could not be identified due to rain water filling; one couple fell of the two wheeler and into a one foot depth water logged patch. What are the authorities doing about this- be it the MCC or the Panchayat. Think the DC should now take immediate action to prevent a fatality on this road.

Well, the authority responsible in this case, is the Ministry for Roads and Transport, and not the MCC,, that is simply an office that collects House Tax, Shop Tax, and gives Commercial Licence to vend or run a business. Voting is certainly not a reason for a certain Ministry not to function, Everybody goes to work even if voting is requested from citizens. After all, it simply does not make sense to vote for any party that forms an authority that does not take responsibility and work for the people. People of this area should seek legal advise from a good lawyer. – Citizens must sue the authority that does not care or respond to such important infrastructure issues. They are not required if they do not work for the people!

Here comes ‘Black Friday’ priest and his propaganda. I guess he doesn’t get tired of his anti-Modi talking points. After losing almost entire country, election after election, Fr.Prakash continues his hate campaign by misrepresenting the situation in India. He talks as if things got worse only in the past 4 years. This kind of hatred, fear mongering and and negative campaign by minority religious leaders is turning out to be a big gift for Modiji. I’m not opposed to valid criticism of anyone including BJP and Modi. However, this kind of religious bigotry hiding behind ‘political opposition’ is very disturbing. Remember, approximately 60% of Hindus vote against BJP. This shows Hindus are more open minded than minorities.

What would anyone benefit, but suffer for a whole day with inconvenience and business losses, by staging and supporting a total closure of Karnataka State by BJP, with the excuse of waiver of loans of all farmers, allegedly made by the new CM. All these Politicians make a lot of promises to win votes from the majority that are the farming community in Karnataka, Little do they understand by the term Farmers’ Loan – each bank that has given such a loan, must first submit to the new CM for what purpose the loan was sanctioned and granted and whether there was any collateral involved. Managerial staff of Indian banks are very much involved big time in loan approvals for something in return. If a Loan Waiver has to be sanctioned, the question remains who will compensate the banks’ money that was loaned. Moreover, all farmers have various reasons and projects other than farming for which they take loans. The PM & FM should also be in support and be signatories to such a large waiver of Farmer’s loans. This requires a lot of statistics and numbers to be worked upon in real time.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Working with relatives can be dangerous, difficult: Tanaaz Irani

Working with relatives or family members is not dangerous but often sensitive because each of us want to preserve our family ties at all timeand under all circumstances. Business comes and business goes with all objectives being carefully watched and adhered. At the end of the day, whatever happens to the business is equally important, but more important is the family link where members of the family need one another and preserve all the family ties. The community always looks upon the family unity to survive and prosper. A family that prays together stays together, and the family that stays together need one another in good times and tough times. A family unity is good for the community so that a family can be a role model to all others that watch their unity and diversity with pride. When a family smiles at each other the world joins together and create an atmosphere of joy. The family togetherness is good for everyone.

Alfie, you being a US returnee must be obviously aware, how in the US the law maintains NO DUMPING law, and how Contractors, have to lease out a large disposal container to carry their demolished material, and how residents have to pay US$35 per month and have their garbage and process waste picked up one day a week by the Waste Management company. This law must be applied in India too to see a clean country. In India, the general public and as well as the authority, be it the Police or the Municipality, seems to ignore their responsibility to check this nuisance from the people who live in such neighborhood. It is the prime responsibility of the Municipality to come out with a workable plan to charge and provide large garbage bins on these road sides where you have observed and photographed, and the Police must book these Contractors who dump demolished building materials. This is the only way, and simply writing articles after articles in your media is not going to change anything as the Police and Municipality do not read and do not see what you and the responsible citizens see.

Durgama buses have the most accidents statistic will tell. Speeding is one of the first causes of these express buses besides racing each other for time. The traffic Dept. should levy hefty fines and Travelling public using these buses must sue them for large compensation so that they will learn how to respect. Parking on NH66 or any main road must never be allowed as it occupies the shoulder which is required in emergencies. But the Traffic Dept. does not carry out any safety studies, and therefore, bad accidents and collisions occur,

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Eighth Graduation Day Celebrated in Sahyadri Campus

Graduation ceremony is a colorful occasion for any student who receives his or her credentials in the discipline they are qualified in. Graduation is a happy occasion for each student because that is the day when a graduating student goes home with a pride that all his or her efforts of study have come into reality, and that the graduating student can now prepare a suitable Resume for the career opportunities ahead. Career opportunities in a country such as India where there are more than two million students receiving their Degrees or Diplomas is not an easy task. A graduating student has to search for a suitable career opportunity wherever possible in order to get involved with any kind of job opportunity possible. It is a tough situation to be in and hope for the best in securing a suitable job. The Universities as well as the public has a conscientious duty to help any or all graduating students to secure any job possible so that a graduating student gets engaged with any job opportunity available anywhere within India or outside India. In the past, the Gulf region was a prospective area to secure a job, but now such opportunities are not so easy available because of the economic situations prevailing everywhere. It is therefore our prayer and also our desire that all Graduating students get a suitable job opportunity anywhere, and that a student gets involved with a promising job opportunity as soon as possible. The sooner a graduating student gets a job is always a pride to the University he or she comes from. This is the beginning of a long awaited journey for any student to reap the harvest of all his or her efforts in achieving the Graduating result after a continuous struggle of so many years of hard work. May God bless all the Graduating students in securing a quick job and a suitable job for all the specialty of educational credentials they earn with so much of efforts and concerns.

This man and many other Congress leaders whose ancestors were raped and murdered by this demon king, but they celebrated the mass murderers birthday and that too using tax payers money. If they so badly wanted to celebrate then they should have used their own money and declaring the day a public holiday is a travesty of justice. Lobo also made a speech celebrating the occasion which was nothing short of slap in face, linking a bible story to the celebration of this butchers birthday to Mary Magdelene and Jesus. Thus he and the rest of the congress gang proved themselves untrustworthy, and when they came this time begging for votes, the people replied justly and made the right choice by getting rid of these opportunist In sincerely hope that going forward there will be no more celebrations on the birthday of man who in many peoples eyes has gone down into the dustbin of Indian history.

  • From M D'Souza on He Did Great Developmental Work for the City, But Sadly J R Lobo Got BETRAYED by.....?

Different people give different reasons for the loss or Victory. It is not easy to understand Voter’s mind and what he/she decides. Every candidate has to aim for the every vote, then he will win. I spoke to few people and every one gave different reasons. 1. Mr Lobo participating in Tippu Jayanti Celebrations did not go well with many Catholics. Even though Tippu’s atrocities like torture/captivity/forceful conversion happened more than 200 years ago, the harm/damage/violence was much more than the right wing sponsored Chritian Worship Place attacks 10 years ago. 2. I don’t know how much canvassing was done with Catholic community by the Congress party?. Educated people do not vote/support a candidate just because they speak your language or follows your religion. Did Congress party think that ” we will get all catholic Votes, no matter what” ? Did Mr Lobo put any efforts to reach out to them? Many Catholics did not wanted to vote RSS supported candidate and abstained from voting. 3. Significant number of Jeppu Catholics did not vote Mr Lobo. He did attend a meeting with them and showed inclination to solve the issues and had promised to bring both parties to the table and negotiate a settlement. 4. Congress government/ Home Minister Dr Param could have done more in Mr Baliga’s murder investigation . Many people thought there is no difference between both parties in providing Justice. 5. There were few photos were circulating in Media. Mr Lobo, Mr Rai, Mr Fernandes chatting/laughing together with Mr Kateel. There is nothing wrong in elected representatives meeting/laughing/travelling together. The caption on one of the photo was” nama poora onje, janakulu manganakulu”(We all politicians are one, people are fools). 6. Some people accuse that Mr Lobo took credit for the work he did not do. 7. It was alleged that Mr Lobo had close proximity to a catholic lawyer who is not popular with many Catholics. Overall Mr Lobo is a gentleman, experienced, knowledgeable, hard working and non corrupt. Politics is not every ones cup of tea. He put his heart and soul for the development of the City. He is 65 years old. May be he can use his time with his family/travel. He has worked very hard as a government official and as a MLA. He needs rest and relaxation. I wish him good health, peace and happiness.

If he had dropped the pretence and kept the same no-nonsense and serious personality which he had 5 years ago, probably the outcome would have been different today. This mollycoddling to ‘special interest’ groups only backfired. And there was no stopping when Modi got inside the ring 2 weeks prior to the polling day. Even though congress is partly in power today, there is absolutely nothing to be proud of their achievements in the recent elections. They will be only looked down upon by the appa-maga party in every aspect though mandate is double the size of JDS. The power lies with the king and Kumaranna is on the throne. Everyone else is just a subordinate. Look at the humiliation. How long can it go on? My bet is, we will enter into another assembly election soon, probably during the same time as parliamentary elections. This coalition simply won’t work. BJP will only emerge stronger.

Sincerity in this world does not work as the Educated lot fall for false speeches and fake statements from the national leaders. Majority of Mangaloreans were of the opinion that they are a literate lot and would not fall for artificial talks. Even we have fallen blind and were not able to see the development generated by JR Lobo, Madhwaraj and the likes. They are punished for being good to the people. Our community people are truly lazy and have abstained from voting. I know a few families who took that week end for picnics and refused to vote. • From Siva on He Did Great Developmental Work for the City, But Sadly J R Lobo Got BETRAYED by.....?

I am surprised that such an erudite writer like Alfie has left out a major point. There are many other points too but I will stick to only two or three points: Tippu Jayanthi, making fun of cow-protection and Superstition (Prohibition of) Act. Congress celebrated ‘Jayanthi’ of Tippu. First of all, there is no concept of Jayanthi in Islam. Don’t know who had started this but Congress acted as if their life depended on it. Siddaramaiah dd this only to teach Hindus. Now he will merrily continue with the help of JDS. That is another matter. But why did this affect Lobo? This should never be a question but point of introspection. Christians were one of the worst affected by Tippu. Yet Lobo said nothing about it and supported the Jayanthi of the perpetrator who tortured his own ancestors. Many might not have voted him for this reason. The question is who really is Judas here. Second: Cow-protection. No matter what the arguments are for or aginst ban of cow-slaughter, the cow is definitely dear to Hindus. Again a lot of people may question this notion itself. Let them. but Hindus have answered them by votes. All that was required was to show the willingness to stop the illegal slaughter. Too little was done – that too by Honest police officers. MLA showed absolutely no interest about this point. A lot of Hindus who had voted him last time would have silently turned away. Third: Anti-superstition act. Most people have their own beliefs. As long as one person’s belief does not hurt others, there should not be any restrictions. I too don’t find Made Snana, ede Snana etc as rational. But a lot of people believe in it. When they are doing it on their own will with no-pressure from others, restricting it by enacting a law is enacting a law acting against their beliefs. Instead of such laws, encouragement should have been given about the ills of such practices. Instead of health-issues and irrationality of such issues, it was painted as if it was a caste issue. While erudite scholars may have strong arguments, for a simple mind and heart seeing is believing. They would have seen that even the upper caste people roll over the leaves. So it would make no sense to call it a caste-issue. The best course of action in such cases is to educate and not legislate. I know there will be hundreds of arguments and counter-arguments (One reason I stopped commenting on Mangalorean is these endless arguments which led no-where). But people have spoken and it is up to the leaders of the party to take it and act. Rather than going to temples as a soft-Hindutva, if Congress had even shown even slightest of regards to the feelings of a large section of their followers, they would not have lost the votes. Now that they have the ‘Surrender-power’, they can still do the right things and get the real power.

The late T A Pai was defeated by an unknown rickshaw driver union president who went on to become one of the Cong I stalwarts. Yes we are talking about Oscaranna. Did Pai deserve to lose his deposit against Fernandes? His own bank staff, KMC staff voted for Oscar. They were actually voting for Indiramma. Yeddy was unfortunate to miss the majority mark. BJP lost at least 20 seats for small margins. Even if they had won 10 of them, Yeddy would have continued. Now he should focus on preparing for Lok Sabha elections due next year. He would do well to project a reliable youner person as the next leader. I feel sorry for Mr Lobo who would have become a minister if he had won.

This is very good for BJP. The loser Congress has to surrender to third-place winner Kummy and yield to his demands. During 2019 elections,JDS will demand majority of Old Mysore seats and there is a good chance that the coalition will not last for more than a year. Plus, ‘appa-maga’ team has repeatedly shown how deceptive they are. Congress is not a majority in any of the major states. Sad day for a party known for minority ‘vote bank’ politics.

  • From Henry James on District Congress holds Vijayotsava at Mallikatta

What exactly is this victory celebration from Congress today in aid of? Morally speaking, absolutely nobody was a winner in this election, not the least of which is the Karnataka electorate. The possibility of congress forming alliance government with JDS is only a saving grace for the taxpayer from spending another Rs. 11000 crore on yet another election. Speaking of the moral aspect to this drama, Congress was the first who was sold out like a harlot and surrendered to JDS unconditionally. Just with the intention of keeping the largest party out of power, in a move which looks like is a blatant act of survival, congress with its 78 seats (35% mandate) joined hands with an opportunistic regional party with only 38 seats (17% mandate). Now you see how the appa maga party will make a living hell for Congress. So Lobo has no moral right to celebrate here. JDS has never had a history worthy of mentioning where they have adhered to the coalition agreement. They play spoilsport at every opportunity. Just 10 days ago appa had made it clear that if maga ever made any pact with Congress he would disown him as his son. But look at them today. It’s a different matter to surmise that BJP was too arrogant ever since the initial lead on the counting day, and made one blunder after another to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. May be Shah left the state too early. If he had stayed on for another week possibly the outcome would have been different. When Congress-JDS made the first move, BJP should have stayed back because that alliance would not have lasted for long. Within months BJP would have come to power. But they used their influence to coerce the governor to allow Yeddy to form the government and generously got 2 weeks to prove majority on the floor. This was another blunder. If it was only 1 week, the outcome today would be different. With 2 weeks, the opposite party had the option of moving the Supreme Court and we know what happened since. Now , since BJP anyways went ahead, Yeddy should never have resigned, instead should have fought till the end (even if it amounted to loss on the floor) but he gave up and admitted defeat. That showed he is a weak politician. The state BJP lacks discipline and is in desperate need of strong leadership. The central BJP leadership can only do so much. Up until late last year Yeddy and Eeshawappa were at each others’ throats and it was a miracle that they crossed 100 in this election – all credit to Modi and Shah. Now, the central BJP has a challenge whether to let the incompetent Yeddy continue as the leader. Rayanna brigade may rear its head again soon. If Yeddy is changed, state BJP will split once again. May be the central leadership has to come up with a strategy(or blackmailing tactic) to make both Yeddy and Eeshwarappa to take permanent political sanyas and choose another able, young and bold leader. But the chances of that happening are slim. Another really shameful development in the last 3 days was the depth to which our politicians sank in order to poach MLAs. It’s not that only BJP were to blame here – even the congress MLAs were so bent that they were willing to negotiate for the right amount, totally disregarding the people and their interests that put them there in the first place. May be this was happening all along and only now we are getting to know this due to sting operations and social media but it’s disgraceful. The Reddy/Sriramulu mafia promising 125 crores, 100-times increase in wealth, Yeddy and his sons promising to close criminal cases in favour of horse trade etc. is simply disgusting. This definitely goes against what Modi was proclaiming about his mission against corruption. Now he needs to step up and do the cleansing exercise else he will suffer in the next years’ elections. Nobody can deny these things did not take place – they are on YouTube for everyone to see. For now, learn to live with the chaos and the anarchy that will ensue as a result of this week’s developments. Who knows, we may see yet another election by the end of this year. The Indian taxpayer has unlimited supply of moola.

“I have more than one lakh Christian and Muslim voters…” Report quoting an unhappy congress candidate. This comment shows the mindset and reason why Congress lost so badly. Congress has turned into a minority-worshiping political party and normal voters decided to teach it a good lesson. The minorities have practiced heavy communal politics using Congress and people got tired of it. For years, I have been pointing out on this forum on how minorities and congress leaders couldn’t grow beyond petty communal mindset. Lobo started his political journey as honest man. However, it was very disappointing to see him absent in any good social events like cleanliness campaign. He associated himself only with minorities, especially with Catholics and paid a heavy price.

All those roads in the suburbs of Udupi District have seen many a life lost, all due to the negligence of the Authority of Roads and Highways of Karnataka. A yellow unbroken line should be drawn on such roads of suburbs that has traffic flowing up and down so that those buses and trucks that drive bang in the middle of the road, can be made to adhere to one side of the road only and avoid knocking people off bikes head-on. Moreover, these roads should be broadened to accommodate the size of two buses with sufficient free space, and whilst construction, pavements or footpaths space must be taken into consideration at least on one side of these roads, for pedestrians to walk. The Department of Transport or the Police is certainly to be blamed for not ensuring that these basic necessities are met with, simply registering a case is the most stupid thing the law does.

Mr. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party is now talking about serving the poor – what exactly has he or his party served the poor and the needy with in Karnataka, All those Bhagya schemes of the CM are good but not truly beneficial in the long run. Political parties are fighting over Karnataka State for their own reason and benefit – people of Karnataka must understand their strategy by wisdom. Karnataka lacks basic infrastructure and others such as housing, water, electricity, fuel/gas for cooking, education, lack of industries, jobs, good roads, transportation and price control of food and commodities. There are always water shortages April to June, Power outages daily and throughout the year, no price control on basic foodstuff and taxes are higher than New Delhi. That will be the day when all of Karnataka will be self sufficient and will have no water or power shortages and no want of jobs or income. If Rahul Gandhi or PM Modi visits the Udupi City Bus Stand area on any given day and witness those poor people, men, women, and children, who gather every morning in their hundreds, from all over Karnataka hunger for a days’ job and income, only then they will learn what it is to serve the poor!

We need broader streets, cleaner streets and more beautification all over the cities so that more and more visitors come to our city and enjoy the beauty of our landscape, our parks and recreation areas. We need more cleanliness all over the place with more gardens, more parks and more attractive sites including good sculptures so that the city becomes more attractive. Nice water fountains, nice maintenance schemes and regular upgradation requires constant supervision. • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Tribute to AC Nuns on Sesquicentennial (150 Yrs) Jubilee of Apostolic Carmel Congregation

If we start counting ‘TEN BEST GIFTS” that were bestowed upon Mangalore, the destiny of Nuns and Priests coming to Mangalore as Missionaries are on the top of the list. Our grateful thanks we owe to the AC Nuns in particular for their love and dedication towards Mangalore where they made their beloved home 150 years ago. The Education and the discipline of faith that the AC Nuns brought with them to Mangalore needed lots of sacrifices and dedication. They came to India with a love of God and also the love of people. They established schools and charirtable Institutions. They reached out tens of thousands of people regardless of faith and they proved their abilities in the life of intellectualism added with determination and love for people. God has been extremely kind to Mangalore in so many ways, and the kindness in providing abundance of Nuns and Priests with a willingness to serve is something that we can write in volumes, and praise God for being so kind and merciful towards Mangalore. St. Agnes College of Mangalore is a “Signature Project” of the AC Nuns in Mangalore that became the foundation of all the nuns planned and strengthened. The brought the best of teachers whose quality of Education spread all over Mangalore where tens of thousands of students flourished with Education and dedication for others. Thank you, AC Nuns, for all your blessings and magnanimous work for the people. May you remain successful always in your good work that spreads all across the region and brings awareness to people what is the strength of Christianity is all about.

Cong I vote banks include Muslims , majority of Christians and SC ST as well as backward caste people. Well, that was till few years ago. Even now these factors play a dominant role. The voters need to look at the candidates and vote wisely. May the best candidates win.

Mr. Huccha Venkat seems more of a Humanitarian, and certainly not a Politician. Mr. Huccha Venkat should run a Charitable Institution and shelter, feed, clothe, and educate those whom he finds the need to do. God will certainly bless him.

Yenidu Ass charya? Bele ijjanthi Asschari? This comedian is responsible for public nuisance. I still remember 21st Dec 1973 Bangalore bundh because he called for bundh. I ended up eating bun butter and 2 rasabale that day as all the restaurants were closed. Some kind soul had partially opened his shop to help shoppers. Are the voters crazy enough to vote the ass?

  • From Jovita on Modi rules out hung Karnataka Assembly, bets on BJP win

So we have elected BJP with a full majority at the center. But how much responsibility is the government taking? Even when people blame it for the corruption, bank frauds, and all the different blunders what does our man Mr. Modi do…He places the blame on the congress. Says, Congress left me such a crappy country that I can’t do anything good with it. I mean, so many gujju’s fled to western countries seeking assylum disowning their own country. No clue why Modi stayed back. But the point is, does Mr. Modi and BJP take any responsibility for anything? It would be better to have a hung parliament or Congress in full majority at least Congress doesn’t shrug off responsibility and in a hung parliament someone would take responsibility and we can definitely hold the government responsible only in this scenario. With BJP we are putting our country 50 years behind.

  • From Richard Thomas on Congress Believes in 'Ease of doing Murder - PM Narendra Modi

Has anyone wondered why people of the Gujarat State are converging upon Karnataka, and why Mr. Narendra Modi, being the Prime Minister, can make such derogatory remarks ”Karnataka has no law, no order”, and spread hate through his speeches. Karnataka is better than UP, Bihar, and Gujarat all put together where law and order and harmony and peace is concerned Why are BJP and Congress acting like two powers at war in one country, India. Would it be well if BJP ruled one set of Indians, and Congress ruled another set, and mind their own business, and be at peace. Would that bring about peace and harmony in India and all these politicians, who seem to have nothing better to do.
